To do something at work I've already been bollocked for and received a warning for twice?

I've name changed for this but here goes.

For the last 3 weeks I've been doing something at work that hasn't impacted anyone at all and nobody has noticed...until Monday. On Monday a senior manager discovered what I'd been doing and was angry and asked my supervisor to have a word with me. The supervisor had a word and told me not to do it again. I apologised and said I wouldn't even though I don't really have an option but to continue doing it.

However, the very next day (Tuesday, yesterday) I did it again. I didn't expect anyone to notice, as like I said, I've been doing this thing for 3 weeks and nobody's noticed. Well, obviously someone was keeping an eye on me because I got caught and this time I got a proper telling off and a 'record of discussion' is now going on my file.

Now, my AIBU is, I really don't have much choice but to continue doing the thing, at least for the time being, so would it be really that bad to do it again on my next shift which is the weekend, where there will be skeleton staff who won't know I've already been in trouble?

Just to add, many staff members are doing a very, very, similar thing openly but slightly differently which I feel is unfair. And, to clarify, it's not office based; we are an establishment that is supposed to be all about supporting 'the thing' I'm doing.

Well he's been a duckling all his life, so unlikely to be in a tree at any point. Did you ever see him out of nappies and not on Keith's knee? I don't think he ever fledged, but he lived a rich life of travelling the country as an entertainer and even had a hit record 🐥

IME the RSPCA will have no interest either .

It's awful OP, I'm like you, care for any creature who is on need, but as you can see by the responses to your thread, we're in the minority.
I worked for a vet many years ago, when we had a beautiful pigeon brought in, having been savaged by a cat.
No one gave a flying fuck about this poor creature, in pain and distress because ..... a, no one was paying for treatment and b. It was just a bird 😔

I would never donate to the RSPCA again, having watch them sneer at a creature in distress, and never felt the same about a vetinary practise that would go above and beyond for a cat, dog, rabbit, horse., but would not spare a few minutes to care for a bird in distress.

I'd love to say I paid for it's treatment and it flew off merrily, to my shame, I did not.

In defence of vets , not all including mine would turn away wildlife, money does not come into it at my practice i am proud to say BUT i do see where they are coming from regards bird flu and we are very cautious about birds, i'm sure op will have seen the defra guidelines about it to.
I think i would not be risking my job and potentially peoples health.

A member of the public brought the bird into us in a cardboard box sealed up with tape. He said the bird had a missing tail and couldn't fly, so we presumed it was injured. When the vets got round to checking it (about 30 minutes later) they realised it was a fledgling and advised thar it should be put back where it was found so the parents could continue to feed it, which is our usual advice.

However, the receptionist had forgotten to get the member of the public's details so there was no way of contacting him. The receptionist phoned a couple of rescues who said they were full so the vets were umming and ahhing about euthanasia, which is how I ended up saying I'd hand rear it.

Well in this case I think they’re being really mean, but with a formal warning about it I wouldn’t risk it. Can you get a rota of friends and family drawn up to feed the bird while you’re at work and when your DC is not available? It shouldn’t need feeding for long right?

Have you not got a wild bird charity near you? I found a fledgling pigeon (London) and they came and picked it up that day.

I don't know what your job at the vets is but you should know how devastating avian flu is for both wild and commercial flocks. You aren't doing a kind thing you are doing an idiotic thing you've been told to stop doing. If you do it again and get caught you will be sacked. What species is it? Birds can be asymptomatic so you have no idea if it has flu or not.

Your colleagues letting their dogs out for a wee is not comparable as your work aren't complaining about you taking short breaks but the bird flu risk. You need to listen to that.

It’s a pigeon. I am firmly of the belief that its a pigeon and this is why after many requests to disclose the species she refuses to say.

Op, you are being spectacularly irresponsible. I'm amazed they haven't fired you. Can you not see that this is different to your colleagues bringing their dog in? If the answer is no then perhaps you need to find another line of work.

Ok so I once "rescued" a bird I thought was injured at work, only to find once I'd brought it to the admin office that it was not injured because it flew round said office until we could get it out a window. I do not work in a vets. So, OP, I'm a fellow (lunatic) animal rescuer, and I'm on your side!

But you can't bring the bird to be work. The bird flu risk is real. You need to find a wild animal rescue and take it there. Also, what is your plan for when this bird is grown? You've been doing this for 3 weeks!

My daughter is a vet. They don’t just make up the rules they are there for a reason. If avian flu was to spread it could have serious consequences for their patients and in the local area, including commercial bird businesses.
They should examine birds outside where possible and wear PPE. There is a risk also it can spread to humans albeit small.

It is not because they’re mean or a wild bird is not economic. They take in strays all the time and treat them.

You are risking the Vets business and the well being of others. You are lucky you haven’t been sacked already. Take unpaid leave if you refuse to obey simple instructions.
