It’s like drinking a bouquet of flowers 🤢

I love Earl Grey and Lady Grey!

Snorlaxo · 09/07/2025 13:47

i only have Earl Grey in my cupboards (teabags because I’m lazy) I love the smell of it brewing.

Bergamot is a citrus fruit. Do you also object to lemon tea?

I didn’t even know bergamot was a citrus fruit.

There is absolutely no way I would have smelt a lemon and earl grey and made any relation.

I drink rooibos tea with a slice of lemon and honey.

Yes! And perfumes don’t belong in tea!

No they don't, but it smells so nice

WhatHoJeeves · 09/07/2025 13:50

I rarely drink any other tea. Love Earl Grey.

I may now brew a pot of earl grey to make my room smell nice. 😂

I don’t drink it but I keep it in for friends who do. One of whom has milk in it which seems especially grim.

I’m a plain old Yorkshire Tea woman myself, although I do also like mint, rooibos and chamomile. Not together! And a sleepy time tea to take to bed sometimes.

@Ontheedgeofit I first heard of rooibos in those No 1 Lady’s Detective books so tried it and loved it!

Best books!

Oh I do. I love it black. Twinings used to do a rose one, an orange blossom one and a lavender one and they were beautiful.

I use Earl Grey as the hot water in a lemon jelly sometimes.

MalcolmMoo · 09/07/2025 13:55

I can’t stand it! I like Darjeeling or Russian Caravan tea myself.

My mum however loves earl grey and it’s her first choice. I hate the bergamot after taste with ear grey.

HumerousHumous · 09/07/2025 13:55

I too only drink Earl Grey (decaf.). It’s the only tea I’ve drunk in 20 years. I also like Lady Grey but don’t buy as it doesn’t come decaffeinated so affects my sleep.
Don’t understand anyone that puts milk in Earl Grey, it would ruin the taste of bergamot surely?

BethBynnag86 · 09/07/2025 13:56

I love Lady Grey.I was first given some while suffering from a really serious bout of Chicken Pox in my mid-thirties,and it's still my favourite hot drink in my late sixties.I just can't face normal tea at all.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 09/07/2025 13:57

I like it like a herbal infusion, black with no sugar

Ontheedgeofit · 09/07/2025 13:57

So here’s a question (no offense intended)….

How old are you regular earl grey drinkers? Is it an old lady’s drink? 😂

Im thinking like Chanel no 5 vibes or Turkish delight…

It's unpleasant, I agree. DH drinks it all the time.

MrsSethGecko · 09/07/2025 14:00

I'm 43 but I've been drinking it since my teens. I do like Turkish Delight (and Parma Violets)

AMiddleClassWomanOfACertainAge · 09/07/2025 14:00

Tea of choice here, no milk.
My kids even drink it, the only tea they drink. Used to raise some eyebrows when younger and out and about when they requested an earl grey, no milk.

yelladuster · 09/07/2025 14:00

I love Earl Grey, Empress Grey, Darjeeling, Lapsang Souchong, Green tea, white tea and Rooibos tea and Matcha. I also enjoy a nice mug of builders tea. I'm very catholic in my tastes, I do hate coffee though.

Edited

30 and have drunk Earl Grey and Lapsang since I was a young child - 9yo DC had a cup of Lapsang the other evening before bed.

Arlanymor · 09/07/2025 14:02

I drink it as London Fog in colder months, it’s gorgeous. I bought a milk frother from Aldi specifically to make it.

AMiddleClassWomanOfACertainAge · 09/07/2025 14:02

I’m in my 50’s but have been drinking it for at least 30 years. Clipper brand is the best, others (Twinings the worst culprit) can be overpowering or oddly flavoured.

VictoriaEra · 09/07/2025 14:03

It's the only tea I like. Now all my family drink it too.

Just had to google what a London Fog is in relation to Earl Grey tea.
We have a similar thing here in SA called a Red Cappucino which is basically the same but with Rooibos tea and probably honey rather than the syrup.
So nothing the same except the frothed milk :) but you get the idea...

Earl Grey is my favourite.
Its what got me into drinking tea, throughout my childhood and teens I thought i hated tea and only drank coffee, at uni a friend made me a cup of Earl Grey and I loved it. I love tea but hate tea with milk.
Earl Greay is my preference but I will drink black normal tea if it isn't available.

Francestein · 09/07/2025 14:07

I was about to pop in and edit my previous comment about real bergamot being difficult to find and being replaced with bergamot essence perhaps being the reason behind the comments about it being described as tea with perfume, but remembered that my aunt also used to describe EG like this too. She would have been in her mid-late 80’s if she was still with us. (And still making disparaging comments about EG tea.) I’m going to be 53 on Friday (will celebrate with EG tea and EG cake just for @Ontheedgeofit), but I will never wear Chanel no5 (Ghosts of my chain-smoking mother) and I would be violently ill if anyone tried to feed me Turkish Delight 🤢

blackbirdevensong · 09/07/2025 14:12

Earl Grey (or even Lady Grey) with a tiny dash of milk... Ah, Heaven!
