to ask you what things people spend money on that you just don't understand?

This isn't a judgey thread or a bashing thread. People are absolutely free to spend their money on whatever they choose. Horses for courses.

But that said.. what expensive things do you see other people spending their money on that you simply don't "get"?

Mine is personalised numberplates. Cannot compute why anyone would care what combo of numbers or letters is on their car.

Interested to see what others think!

loads of takeaways every week

ShiverMeLogs · 07/07/2025 15:55

Takeaways are delicious and easy, so totally get that.

Private school I don't get though.

This isn't a judgey thread? It will turn into one

RosesAndHellebores · 07/07/2025 15:57

Fingernails, eyebrows and botox.

takealettermsjones · 07/07/2025 15:57

Designer clothes/shoes/handbags.

Hoolihan · 07/07/2025 15:57

New/fancy cars. Just doesn't appeal to me at all.

Massive pricey holidays e.g. Disney/Dubai/Maldives, that kind of thing.

Fish & chips.

gimmeabreakfgs · 07/07/2025 15:58

Wine. Or alcohol.

but I do have a personalised number plate. However you probably wouldn’t realise until I pointed it out.

Absolutely will!

rumred · 07/07/2025 15:59

Just eat etc. Big nails. Mcdonalds. New cars.
All my own personal views obvs.

Lordofmyflies · 07/07/2025 16:00

So much! Lip fillers, those crazy painted eyebrows, gambling, tattoos, caravans, camping, football tickets, I could go on!

LadyKenya · 07/07/2025 16:00

Botox, fillers, designer clothes, and takeaways.

ItsStillWork · 07/07/2025 16:01

Botox, fillers etc

extravagant holidays like the Maldives etc

having a new car every year

but then again 95% of my food shop is at M&S and many people can’t justify the cost of that

Wishing14 · 07/07/2025 16:02

I can ‘get’ most things, but things that aren’t appealing to me personally are fancy cars, and I suppose holidays abroad every year IF it means you will struggle to get the house/ life at home you want.

Looloolullabelle · 07/07/2025 16:03

Tattoos
Fags- I get addiction but have no idea what possesses people to start in the first place 🤢
Drugs
Lip Fillers
Ridiculous Eyebrows

elliejjtiny · 07/07/2025 16:04

Any family holiday which someone going is going to hate, eg somewhere hot when someone hates the heat, disney when someone doesn't like theme parks. I suppose if you are rich enough to be able to afford regular holidays then it might be ok but i just can't imagine booking a holiday that either me, dh or the dc would hate.

Finteq · 07/07/2025 16:04

Finteq · 07/07/2025 16:04

Expensive handbags.

Corvidqueen · 07/07/2025 16:05

Over sugary starbucks orders.

VickyEadieofThigh · 07/07/2025 16:05

Big weddings, hen/stag dos abroad (mind, the latter tends to be paid for by the idiot friends...).

WhatMe123 · 07/07/2025 16:05

Ugly, nasty bully-type dogs. Why? There are so many nicer dogs to have x

FlowersFawb · 07/07/2025 16:06

@Finteq yes! I do not get this craze so weird and such a waste of cash!!

Doidontimmm · 07/07/2025 16:07

My in-laws spend so much money on home decor, always changing throws, cushions, ornaments, every occasion they buy tonnes of decorative items ie Easter/halloween - no little kids or grandchildren at home. The list is endless. Thousands & Thousands.

I just don’t understand!
