Until today when DP told me. I was very surprised as it never occurred to me. I also can't believe that they got away with saying it on TV in the 80s during family viewing time!

Er - you what now?

ColinCaterpillarsNo1Fan · 06/07/2025 17:01

I've never heard this before, I always thought it meant idiot so you're not the only one.

WearyAuldWumman · 06/07/2025 17:01

I'm 65 and I've never heard that!

CorneliaCupp · 06/07/2025 17:02

No it doesn't!

changednameagain1234 · 06/07/2025 17:02

Idiot isn’t it not penis?

GreyCarpet · 06/07/2025 17:02

I learnt at secondary school when a teacher told us because people were saying it. But, otherwise, I probably wouldn't have known.

BlueMum16 · 06/07/2025 17:02

Not here it doesn't.

Timeforabiscuit · 06/07/2025 17:02

Plonker I thought meant idiot, bit like Wally.

GreyCarpet · 06/07/2025 17:03

But people do tend to use it to mean idiot/wally.

DesperateforSunshine · 06/07/2025 17:03

Soz - you're wrong

changednameagain1234 · 06/07/2025 17:03

Just googled:

Plonker" is a British English slang term, typically used to describe a stupid or foolish person. It is considered informal and can be offensive. The term is often used as a lighthearted insult or playful jab

Tell your DH he is the plonker 😂😂

Zov · 06/07/2025 17:04

First I've heard of that. Even in the 1980s, DelBoy called Rodney a plonker. Even then it wasn't a name for a penis as far as I know. Confused

birdglasspen · 06/07/2025 17:05

Plonker is idiot and also penis. Unfortunately that’s the word my DH uses so all my DS s do as well. It’s used like the word “Willie”. I’m used to it but yes if I think about it I wish they didn’t use this word🤣

KrisAkabusi · 06/07/2025 17:07

It's both.

"Rodney, you plonker!"

"I stayed home all day, pulling my plonker."

Ponoka7 · 06/07/2025 17:09

Plonkers was a gay game, a spin on the word conkers. But it's original meaning was a clumsy/foolish person. Plonk is to put something/yourself down heavily/carelessly "plonk yourself on the couch". So a plonker was originally similar to an oaf.

babasaclover · 06/07/2025 17:11

Yeah your husband is the penis. He’s totally made this up!!! Plonker just means wally

Usernameisunavailable · 06/07/2025 17:11

Where I’m from, yes plonker did used to mean penis many years ago. I haven’t heard it in that context for a long time though. I remember hearing the expression “pulling my plonker” which was a ruder version of pulling my leg!

olderbutwiser · 06/07/2025 17:14

Plonker was definitely an acceptable substitute for penis when I was young. (I’m 66).

Edited to add:

Also, dick.

steff13 · 06/07/2025 17:15

It's not a word that's really used in the US, but I thought it meant "idiot." This is what urban dictionary says:

To have not realised that "Plonker" means penis.
Baby26 · 06/07/2025 17:15

Well you've just taught me something new. I guess I always knew it would have a meaning, as most insults come from somewhere, but I never cared enough to find out!

Shenmen · 06/07/2025 17:16

I have never heard of plonker meaning penis. I thought it was popularised from only fools and horses.

Morgenrot25 · 06/07/2025 17:17

It doesn't.

MsFelicityLemon · 06/07/2025 17:23

Ye, it can mean Penistone, but more widely idiot.

I think it's two seperate meanings, as in when you call someone a ponker you're calling them an idiot not a penis.

EveryKneeShallBow · 06/07/2025 17:23

Definitely a ruder version of pulling my leg - having me on - nah, you’re just pulling my plonker (used by male or female speakers).
