I swear I'm not a pearl clutcher but slightly shocked at the amount of little girls at the Sabrina concert

I was at Sabrina's concert at Hyde Park yesterday and a good segment of the audience were little girls think between 8-12). Not only are most of the lyrics not really age appropriate but many of them were wearing hot pants and make up. Even my teenage daughter (who I was accompanying) thought it was a bit odd. The show was very PG (and there was a parental guidance disclaimer), so at least she's aware of who listens to her music.

It absolutely has a double meaning...come on

Max Martin even explained what it meant when lots of people thought it was about violence to women 😂

Well Max Martin wasn't going to say 'yeah it's about a schoolgirl asking to be fucked' was he, but that was the interpretation Britney chose to give.
The double (or triple I suppose) entendre was right there

Not to mention that Hit Me never did mean Call Me - I remember at the time everyone was 'yeah, right...' because we never used it that way

Ok then.

DS now 20 recently said he couldn’t believe we let him sing along to Lily Allen songs. I said to stop him would have made it into a big thing and as it was it went over his (then) little head.

i was at SC yesterday. Possibly the oldest person there. I’ll undoubtedly get flamed for this but it wasn’t the number of young girls that surprised me - it was the number of overweight girls/young women. If that’s representative of the population, no wonder rates of diabetes etc are going through the roof.

You do realise the song wasn’t written for Britney Spears, or indeed a woman? It was offered to several artists before Britney, including Backstreet Boys and Five.

So no, it wasn’t written actually about a schoolgirl wanting to be ‘fucked’.

I said that was her interpretation of it (going by the video). I do know that, yes.

Symposium123 · 07/07/2025 18:24

It’s soft porn. Children shouldn’t be there.

I was at Sabrina on Saturday and I'm absolutely disgusted...

...by so many of the messages on here. Criticising women and young girls for their weight and how they're dressed? And suggesting some women might feel a bit old by being there? What do you hope to achieve by excluding people like that?

The show was indeed toned down and it was one of the best pop gigs I've ever witnessed (I've seen Britney, Madonna, H from Steps, etc). Great staging, very inventive, magical when she got on the crane above the audience. The way Sabrina enjoys being saucy, or sex positive as one might call it now, reminded me of Prince, who I began to love at the age of 13. I remember self-censoring the lyrics so my parents wouldn't hear them (I taped over them.)

Also, I must correct the poster who quoted the lyric from Bed Chem as "Come right on me". I think you'll find it's actually "Come ride on me".

Blades2 · 07/07/2025 19:57

You sound like my granda did when he heard me listening to Bowie

Oh you are NOT comparing her to Prince?!

Pullthepin · 07/07/2025 20:21

I was there with my 9 year old, the language was fruity but went over the top of her head. The show was definitely toned down from her tour production, so her management / BST were aware of the audience demographic. My daughter was aware of the swearing, but she has heard this language from her teenager brother. 🤷‍♀️ She enjoyed her self that was the main thing.

there’s no change at all in the misogyny you’re spouting.

Teenage girls cannot do anything right.
As ever.

Their interests are facile, they’re too grown up or not grown up enough, they’re not spending enough of their time on domestic or caring tasks, etc etc.

There really is nothing new under the sun.

This post isn't about teenage girls though. It's about children.

Even then, your comments about teenage girls being judged isn't quite on point. It's not about their behaviour necessarily, it's about society and their parents encouraging / allowing them to believe that being sexy is the first priority of their lives - and in fact the definition of being grown up. Hot pants and make up? How is this appropriate for children?

All children should be confident in domestic tasks, not just girls so there's no misogyny there, just common sense

Well I don't think it's any different to 8 year old me and friends dancing to Liberty X just a little. We made up a dance routine and everything. I cringe now but at the time we had no idea what the song was about.

I’m not sure this is comparable to screaming “I’m so fucking horny”

My daughter (19) and her friend were at her recent concert and said the same, primary age girls, there with parents, at a show full of very sexual adult themes, not euphemisms. But we also saw primary age girls in the glasto audience watching Olivia Rodrigo, and whilst she’s not as sexual as Sabrina Carpenter, there was plenty of swearing. Some parents are dim.

becks213 · 08/07/2025 03:10

I didn't think Sabrina's performance was inappropriate, but what was bizarre to me was the amount of small kids wearing the Sabrina Carpenter merch with "69" on the back

Isitreallysohard · 08/07/2025 03:42

tammienorrie · 06/07/2025 08:48

Also remember feeling uncomfortable at a school disco as a young adult in the late 90s when a group of 7 year olds were singing the Mousse T hit with the chorus "I'm horny, Horny, horny, horny".

Sorry I know it's not funny but I actually lolled at this. I remember being about 9 and my older sister told on me for singing "let's talk about sex'. The difference was I knew I was talking about an adult thing, which I doubt many young girls do now.
YANBU OP, I don't know why anyone would encourage or enable even a young teen to have her as a role model.

I just came on to say exactly what @Fratolish said! I remember when I first heard it - she was on TOTP wearing a pink wig and my Dad looked up from his paper and said ‘what did she just say?!!’

I was 13 when I came home with the single after shopping with my Dad. When I played it I have a firm memory of my Mum standing in the kitchen doorway, raising an eyebrow and saying ‘really??!’ to my Dad!! 😂

T1Dmama · 08/07/2025 14:49

I totally agree with you @Ethicaldebacle,
I have a friend that takes her kids to concerts that aren’t appropriate.. songs about self harm and suicide… no wonder kids are so messed up these days.. then you get called names for highlighting how sad it is!

Sure - why not? Pop Prince and Pop Princess.

IamnotSethRogan · 08/07/2025 15:29

Well I used to listen to blink singing about wanting to fuck a dog in the arse when I was 12 so I think a lot of kids listen to music they're too young for.

Brickiscool · 08/07/2025 16:06

I was there Sunday night with my 15 year old and both of us were a bit surprised as the large numbers of 8-12 year olds happily and loudly singing slut and mother fucker and watching a threesome on stage!

MyDadWasAnArse · 16/07/2025 20:22

I remember when Espresso came out last spring. It seemed fresh, poppy, summery and different. I really liked it. Everything else she's released since seems to merge into each other and doesn't stand out at all.

MonteStory · 06/07/2025 08:21

Wait little girls like pop music?!

All she sings about is her sex life and half her act on stage is simulating sex.

Bananalanacake · 06/07/2025 10:35

I'm thinking of the Sabrina who sang 'boys, boys, boys,' the video was pretty racy, or is this someone else?

I saw the thread title and thought 'blimey, is she still around'. Mind you, I also wanted to check it wasn't about the teenage witch Sabrina.

<Googles, its not about Melissa Joan Hart, who is fifty next year, and the original racy Sabrina singer is still in the industry so good for her>

NoNameisGoodEnough · 16/07/2025 21:09

I was there with my 18 year old DD. It was a great show, we knew what to expect and it was toned down but I definitely wouldn't have bought my DD a top with 'Sabrina 69' on the back from the merch stand when she was a child, and DD agreed. If that makes us pearl clutchers, so be it. And yes, I'm sure the child doesn't know what it means but everyone else does.
