Michael Jackson was a paedophile. Why does the local school choose one of his songs for the kids to perform to?

I also have a friend whose little boy has learnt all his moves and she puts MJ on for him to dance to.

I don’t understand, hearing his music makes me feel sick.

Congratulations on establishing the point. No one watches Jim’ll fix it cos it’s shit. But if it was put on tv no one would say ‘that’s shit turn it off’ they’d be (quite rightly) OUTRAGED. Whereas Michael Jackson people say ‘well yeah but he was a musical genius’ as if that makes it ok.

My point was that even if you separate the artist from the art (which is what you had an issue with) people still wouldn’t watch Jim’ll Fix It.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 05/07/2025 18:47

I think he was probably a paedophile. I do see the sense of separating the art from the artist, though.

iamgoingthere · 05/07/2025 18:51

MJ has become popular again. Many of my teen’s friends are listening and singing to his music.

I hope you don’t listen to the Red Hot Chili Peppers then whose lead singer openly admitted to having sex with a child in his autobiography.

Drew Barrymore, allegedly

Americano75 · 05/07/2025 19:25

He was a paedophile.

His music wasn't that good.

Jennps · 05/07/2025 19:29

He was acquitted of all charges. Get over it.

DiscoBob · 05/07/2025 19:30

I grew up in the 80s and we all knew he was bizarre and odd. Almost like human rules didn't apply to him. He seemed to not have a gender, a sexuality, anything you could pinpoint as normal. But we still danced and sang along to his music as it was so popular at the time.

I think now I wouldn't introduce my kids to his music as it's not something mainstream that they'll come into contact with unless an older person influenced them to look at or listen to him.

Like OJ and Diddy.

Uricon2 · 05/07/2025 19:49

If you're old enough to remember the MJ of the Jackson 5 and the Off the Wall album, a nice looking and very talented black guy, it was bewildering and sad to see what he turned into physically and in terms of how he behaved and I think a lot of excuses were made for him for a very long time. It seems like it is still going on. I suppose people will always defend those they admire and always will. I didn't follow the case but paying people off is never a good indicator of innocence.

💯@Uricon2 . Excellent points.

He was found not guilty. But one of MJs accusers described the Vitiligo pattern on his pen*s perfectly, at thats pretty damning.

Disturbia81 · 05/07/2025 20:45

As others say, separate music from the artist. Most famous male singers are unsavoury, liking teenagers etc. I can’t stand most of them
but enjoy the music.
I still love lostprophets even though I hope the singer will die a painful death.

His pens?
You can write the word penis on here.

LouiseK93 · 05/07/2025 20:49

Thank you, I wasn't sure 😅

I don’t think a lot of checks need to be made for this one. Everyone knows

Oh so this is how an intelligent society wants to love 'oh well the media says the person is guilty so they must be' and I say this in general, I personally use more brain cells than that

I have no interest in what the media say.

The adult men who tell us through tears how obsessed he was with their anus at 8 years old. I find that quite compelling.

When combined with video footage of him regularly accompanied by boys between 8–12, holding their hands, taking them on tour, I would be stupid not to believe these men.

He literally paraded his ‘boyfriends’ in front of the entire world. But people will do ridiculous mental gymnastics to claim he was ‘childlike’. If it sounds like a horse, smells like a horse and looks like a horse, then it’s probably a horse, not a zebra. If it behaves like a paedo, it’s probably a paedo.

Michael Jackson is not a paedophile, he wasn't convicted

These two things are not connected.

Was Fred West a murderer?

Was Jimmy Savile a serial abuser?

Did OJ kill Nicole?

The difference here is, banning the playing of Red Hot Chili Peppers music would be a blessing to humanity whatever the reason, but Jackson, not so much.

Yes.

Everything I write on Mumsnet is my opinion.

I expect that’s the same for most people here.

Unless you believe there are lots of people on Mumsnet posting other people’s opinions for shits and giggles?

I suppose we could all write “in my opinion” as the final line of our posts.

Or, if people don’t, you could post “in your opinion” after most of the posts on Mumsnet.

Alternatively, it’s probably OK not to, and most people will still understand whose opinion it is.

OonaStubbs · 06/07/2025 18:23

They should dance to Blame it on the Boogie. Even though it was written by Michael Jackson there is no doubt it was not written by a paedophile.

LoopyLoo1991 · 06/07/2025 18:30

dontcomeatme · 05/07/2025 08:37

Was it proved he was a paedophile? I didn't think it was x

If a couple of US law firms are to be believed, documents have been sealed until 2034 relating to direct evidence he was. Film footage from a hotel outside the USA and other snippets not seen before. Hush money, non disclosure agreements, bribes and direct threats involved until all the cash from his estate can't be touched any more.

I would like to think these are all conspiracy theories ... but tbh they all sound far to close to what is possible to happen, that I would guess we'll have to wait nine more years to the 25th anniversary of his death.
I never like his music anyway barring Thriller video.
