Settling a debate with DP. He's convinced you can have a favourite child. What's your verdict?

No help but I only have one, so I enjoy telling him he’s my favourite child 😄

okydokethen · 03/07/2025 22:44

Nope, I have two and whole heartedly love them the same (lots!)

SomeEsotericJoke · 03/07/2025 22:45

Yeah, I tell each of mine they're my favourite (especially when no one else is listening), because they are!

I do this! Tell him he's my favourite son/child, he's an only too 😁

CalliopePlantain · 03/07/2025 22:46

yes. But it changes multiple times a day.

ComtesseDeSpair · 03/07/2025 22:46

I suppose it depends what he means. I’m sure many parents have a child who they naturally have more in common with, share similar sense of humour, bond over particularly hobbies etc - particularly as older teens and adults. Is that what he means by “favourite”; or the somewhat more concerning loving one more than the other/s?

NuffSaidSam · 03/07/2025 22:47

Whichever one is being least annoying at the time.

90% of the time that's the dog.

BrizzleMaverick · 03/07/2025 22:47

I have three children aged 10, 7 and 3.

I tell them ‘you are my favourite 10/7/3 year old’ depending on who I’m talking too 🤣

thistimelastweek · 03/07/2025 22:48

Whichever pissed me of least today.
Tomorrow is a new day.

TokenGinger · 03/07/2025 22:48

No, they both equally peck my head… just kidding (a little).

I have a different connection with them both, but I couldn’t choose between them. They’re both wonderful, and testing, in different ways.

Dangermoo · 03/07/2025 22:48

Is this for real? Have you seen the Stately Homes thread? The impact of a less favoured child stays with them through their adulthood.

Profpudding · 03/07/2025 22:48

Honestly, I can’t stand any of them

BunnyLake · 03/07/2025 22:53

I have two children (adult). One is my favourite oldest child and the other is my favourite youngest child.

You can, but you shouldn’t.

RCJJ · 03/07/2025 22:56

Depends which hour of the day it is

Vinotinto78 · 03/07/2025 22:57

Yes. It’s the dog.

ComtesseDeSpair · 03/07/2025 22:58

Also, do you have any children yet? Or is he speaking completely hypothetically without the actual experience and emotion about and towards each of their children that parents have and thinking it’s like having a favourite sibling or other relative?

NotrialNodeal · 03/07/2025 22:59

My favourite child is definitely the one who is causing me the least amount of aggro.

BoredZelda · 03/07/2025 23:00

Yes, but I believe its supposed to be my own…

Edited

No, we have no children as of yet. My POV is you love them the same but will have different bonds. He's under the impression everyone has a favourite child but will never admit it, so wanted opinions from fellow parents!

Yes, but it's not one of mine.

ninjahamster · 03/07/2025 23:01

4 children here and genuinely love them all equally.

NattyFox · 03/07/2025 23:02

Yes, but he's also my only child.

Didimum · 03/07/2025 23:03

Define ‘favourite’. I think you can prefer one’s company for multiple reasons but not love them any differently, or to a lesser or more of a degree.
