No sympathy from me. Her conduct has caused tears in thousands of British households, generating genuine terror in poor and disabled people.
She relished it, she doubled down after the outcry. Maybe her conscience has caught up with her?

I wonder how many people killed themselves because of her. I also have no sympathy

Clearinguptheclutter · 02/07/2025 13:22

Guardian says
A spokesperson for Reeves said: “It’s a personal matter, which – as you would expect – we are not going to get into. The chancellor will be working out of Downing Street this afternoon.”

FightingFish · 02/07/2025 13:22

Oh dear, I sort of feel sorry for her. I’ve had the odd cry at work but always managed to lock myself in the loos for a few minutes.

DaphneduM · 02/07/2025 12:50

There's no rationale behind her decisions, either politically or economically.

e.g. taking away the winter fuel allowance - first announcement for the new government - saved a pittance and was terrible optics impacting on those just above pension credit - they could easily taken it away from higher rate taxpayers - much more acceptable

the talk about reducing the annual £20k allowance into a cash isa - I hope she doesn't do this - surely sensible savers should be encouraged not punished? Again politically it looks bad, and economically it won't have the desired effect that people will invest in British stocks and shares instead They won't.

I would never have voted Tory, as I believe in the fundamentals of a Labour government - however this new Government is not Labour - I'm not sure they have any core beliefs at all. I feel duped and an idiot for voting for this lot.

100% agree. This Government is not a socialist one.

I am thrilled she is crying!!

She can join the thousands of children and parents who have cried as their private schools have closed down or that their parents couldn't afford the 20% increase.

May she not rest in peace.

Thousands of children and parents 😂
Are you for real? 20% isn’t a lot and remember schools have passed this onto parents! They didn’t have to. They should have been paying this for years. Very glad that loophole is closed.

But 10/10 for you for the most dramatic post of the day! Are you off out to join the thousands of wailing children and parents?

50 state schools close on average every year. Are there thousands of people crying about that?

WhereIsMyJumper · 02/07/2025 12:59

I mean, I don’t disagree with your sentiment entirely of course. But I would hazard a guess that the majority of the electorate want to feel like their politicians have control and show confidence.

Yes…I’d prefer the Chancellor didn’t cry, it doesn’t inspire confidence!

justasking111 · 02/07/2025 13:23

Never mind Angela Raynor will sort it all out when Starmer gets the boot.

MrsKeats · 02/07/2025 13:24

Sdpbody · 02/07/2025 13:15

Why would you report me?

I am entitled to my opinion.

Private school children have been negatively affected by RR. I hope she resigns. Vile women.

It's not an opinion. It's vile vitriol. You want her dead. Which is hate speech. Your account should be banned. I will make sure that happens.

Dahliasrule · 02/07/2025 12:57

I have just watched the whole of PMQs. Rachel Reeves right from the start had the sort of puffy eyes that go with hay fever or a heavy cold. I didn’t see crying. Just one wipe of her eye which again be the result of hay fever. This is a non story whipped up out of nothing!

No she was most definitely crying. You can see the tears on her cheeks.

LlynTegid · 02/07/2025 13:24

If it is a personal matter, then every sympathy for her. Her sister is an MP so hopefully can give her some support.

Matt Hancock you may recall crying about the first Covid vaccinations, so not the first politician to cry in public.

Agree that Rachel Reeves is a poor chancellor, that is separate.

JustMyView13 · 02/07/2025 13:25

Downing St have responded to the Sun to confirm its personal circumstances, and she will work from Downing St this afternoon.
Probably best not to speculate.

AquaBreeze · 02/07/2025 13:25

Completely unprofessional.

There are times when our emotions get the better of us. If you’re in a professional setting you remove yourself and go somewhere private.

I would never cry or act like that in front of my clients. No one wants to see it, and it totally undermines confidence.

Maybe as many who killed themselves when the Tories brought in the bedroom tax? The fact is that difficult financial decisions have to be made by every government. Every Government has had policies that are not popular and upset people. This is no different.

tuvamoodyson · 02/07/2025 13:25

DiamondThrone · 02/07/2025 13:16

Click on this link, and tell me she wasn't crying.

The Telegraph - Telegraph Online, Daily Telegraph, Sunday Telegraph - Telegraph

She’s definitely crying, tears from both eyes rolling down her face, wobbly chin….

@Dahliasruleyou can see this?

MrsKeats · 02/07/2025 13:25

If any of you think Reform will sort this you are delusional.
The Tories spent 14 years asset stripping this country and you think it can all be turned around in a year. Get a grip.

Abhannmor · 02/07/2025 13:26

AnotherBrickIn · 02/07/2025 12:46

AIBU to think it’s time Starmer resigned. There you go.

You are. He was elected with a huge majority one year ago. Please come back with an intelligent question.

LindtLindor · 02/07/2025 13:26

I think if it was work related you’d have a quick cry before PMQs and move on. You wouldn’t want to show weakness to the press or opposition. This seems more like a bereavement type where you can’t control it.

Extravirginolive · 02/07/2025 13:26

The chancellor crying in parliament .

All that hubris from her about how amazing she was and now she's out of control and crying.

Astonishing.

Soulfulunfurling · 02/07/2025 13:26

It just compounds the sentiment that they just aren’t up to the job. Weak and out of their depth. I don’t know how they can climb out of this one. Their creditability is in pieces.

While also berating every measure proposed to try and regain some financial ground.

Manxexile · 02/07/2025 13:27

Apologies if this has already been said but I haven't read all posts.

They've said on World At One that this is a "personal" matter and nothing to do with the job.

I'd have to say that if that's true, then I would have told her to stay out of the chamber - for two reasons:

First, it looks bad for Keir as people might think he's forced her to appear when she shouldn't be there

Second, simple kindness would say don't put her in the spotlight - particularly today

Starmer and his Whips don't have a clue how to do politics

Must be amazing being so perfect. Are you vilified in the press every day too?

Oh to be so perfect!
Life happens sometimes. It’s ok to show emotion - it’s not a sign of weakness.

Completely agree. Reform are absolutely clueless. Simplistic solutions to deeply complex issues and problems. A total waste of time.

That said, they’re still going to clean up at the next election.
