This. I’m sick of the culture of let’s delete everything I personally don’t like but my eyes are too sensitive to even read it.

Thats the internet- people’s views clash, sometimes those views are emotional. No direct harm caused. Don’t like it then don’t read it.

Agree. Reeves crying is in the press, it’s fine to discuss. People can hide the thread if they want.

Neither is retaining incompetent people who are destroying the country.

Indeed, which is why we aren’t dealing with a Tory government.

Dwimmer · 02/07/2025 16:20

They voted for assisted suicide too - explicitly including when someone was motivated by feeling a burden.

It was a conscience vote. Not a single MP in any party was told how to vote.

EasternStandard · 02/07/2025 16:55

I’m pointing out u turns to whoever asked what they were. Maybe your post

No not me. I asked what specifically you didn’t like and you answered me that you didn’t like the U turn on the allowance. So I’m asking you what you didn’t like about it. Is it that they have learnt from their mistake and are correcting it, or is it that you don’t want vulnerable pensioners to now get the allowance.

Do you think Labour are going well then?

No we're dealing with an incompetent Labour government led by an utterly useless buffoon with no leadership ability whatsoever.

TeenagersAngst · 02/07/2025 16:59

Tangfastic71 · 02/07/2025 16:34

What specific negative impact?

I'd say the fact that gilt yields are higher now than they were after Liz Truss 'crashed' the economy is a pretty major negative impact. There are a few more, but that one definitely springs to mind.

I said the top policies were NI and others. There were some other policies they u turned on.

I haven’t expanded on which way I felt about the I turned policies.

ETA overall I think u turns show incompetence and getting it wrong

TwoFeralKids · 02/07/2025 17:00

Jellycatspyjamas · 02/07/2025 16:47

And there lies the rub, everyone has reasons why it’s too hard to cut benefits that affect whatever group they’re in. Everyone has reasons why someone else should pay for it. No wonder the woman was in tears.

Would you go to uni if it left you unable to pay bills?

She was 100% crying. Tears rolling down her face, lip wobbling - looked like she was about to break down

At least she's human. I'm sorry she looks like a magician compared with Liz Truss the idiot with no shame and Boris , the idiot with no moral compass. Blimey, I'm thinking she's fab now. What a terrible mess she took over.

cramptramp · 02/07/2025 17:03

I feel sorry for her. I’m no fan but she’s obviously under a lot of pressure.

Pluvia · 02/07/2025 17:04

I'm cutting Reeves some slack. She went in with a plan and then Trump threw several spanners in the works — and will continue to do so for the next three years. His craziness has had a negative effect on US finances as well as out own. And with the Israel-Palestine situation kicking off and Putin still refusing to budge on Ukraine the defence budget has needed money. So all the plans to put a lot more health and social care and long-term capital projects have been thrown up in the air. And this coming after 15 years of the Tories starving the NHS and the defence budget and failing to invest. Labour wanted to prove it could take hard decisions and did things like cutting the winter fuel allowance — and then flip-flopped on that, just as they've flip-flopped on PIP reforms. It's like trying to organise your household budget with the goalposts being constantly moved.

She took over the fastest growing economy in the G7 and destroyed it within a matter of weeks. Quite an achievement.

nomoreredtape · 02/07/2025 12:52

Yes, definitely crying. I just searched PMQs, Rachel Reeves crying’ on YouTube and it popped up.

Being in a very male dominated field, it’s about the worst thing a woman can do at work.

Think what's even worse is kemi badnoch trying to act all mean girls pointing this out, whatever you think of the chancellor that was probably a low blow.pretty sad like you say is a male dominated environment to see a woman do that to another woman is quite sad.

For all the f ups Rachel reeves has done it's not nice to see a person struggling like that

That's the problem with weak government. A few external things come along and throw all your plans up in the air because they were built on shaky foundations. KS and RR have no vision. They have no strategy. They are desperately floundering about trying to find money down the back of a sofa and it shows in the haphazard policies they keep putting out. If they were a CEO and CFO of a FTSE 100, they'd be long gone by now. It's embarrassing to watch.

So many peoiple seem to be pro choice when it comes to killing babies who can't speak for themselve but pro life for fully grown adults who want to die. It seems so messed up.

Small moats record numbers so far this year

This typo tickled me.

Small moats on the up.

Struggling to think how another politician could have managed any better as Chancellor - the utterly broken economy she is trying to fix is a complete shit show thanks to the previous government, covid, huge benefits bill, Brexit, war in Ukraine etc. She's not a magician. I don't agree with the U turns on winter fuel, non doms and PIP.
They should have stuck to the policies as now they are floundering and will likely have to raise income taxes.
Normal PAYE type workers have had enough, we never seem to be listened to, unlike non doms, pensioners, claimants etc.

Agreed, apart from PIP. Those changes would have pushed people into poverty, and that is just not acceptable. It was, and is heartening that so many Labour MPs are fighting hard for their constituents. I can't imagine Tory or Reform MPs doing the same if they were in government

I too was angry at the change of tack with WFA; and I'm speaking as someone who is going to benefit from it, though not as much as the energy companies will. My payment will be going to charity, I am certainly not sending it to my electricity suppliers. We should not need WFA at all. Why should taxpayers money be sent indirectly to energy companies who are making obscene profits for themselves and their shareholders? In my view the what the government need to do is make OFGEM fit for purpose. They are supposed to work for the consumers to ensure we are treated fairly, but they are failing miserably at this. If people want to get angry about anything relating to this, get angry at the energy companies, not a Government which is trying to put things right after 14 years of Tory fiscal mismanagement.

Non doms. No need for further comment on this. I just hope they don't U turn on farmer's Inheritance Tax. The rich should cough up, end of story.

uncomfortablydumb60 · 02/07/2025 17:11

I’d be crying to if I’d fucked up the country so badly She is so out of her depth and lacks basic common sense
And as for her party’s constant U turning
They are an embarrassment to the UK

There are so many pro-growth things she could have done but didn't. She's shafted business in the back while pretending to want growth. Yes, they inherited a broken economy, but the idea that they can fix it, or at least, stabilise it (as the Tories were starting to do) is for the birds. They're just making things ten times worse.

And you can throw your toys out the pram on non-doms all you like but when the top 1% pay 30% in tax, and they leave the country - who else is going to pay it?

This thread needs taking down, it's more disgraceful than even the vilest Meghan and Harry threads.

I didn't know MN could stoop so low but some of the comments on this thread are unhinged and disgusting.

Don’t read it if you don’t like it! You don’t get to police the whole bloody site. Stop being so silly
