I am actually pro diversity hires if it means not everyone in power is male. Lets face it, much of British life, due to its class culture and old boy network has been completely impenetrable until recently, why should women not cry, men can cry too at work and do. Besides, I am sure the negativity around 'diversity hires' was most likely started by a disgruntled male. Many issues around the world would be solved by more upset from those ruling it.

You would prefer incompetent women to men just because they are not men?

My boss cried in a meeting with me the other day.
Her daughter has cancer (she’s 7)
You happy now?

That’s very sad but most would take time off whilst they dealt with such awful news.

I am assuming your boss is not being televised and aired around the world, and they are not running the country’s finances. So even worst case, that would in the realms of acceptable - not in my industry however- but in some possibly.

So you don’t understand how it works?

that’s ok but maybe not get mad at things you don’t quite get.

simply if two people score the same at interview (ie both equally competent) you give it to the one who belongs to an under represented group such as black people, women, etc

I am totally fine with her crying, I just wish she had stuck her guns. She is feeling emotional and she should be able to express that. I'm not a fan but I don't think less of her as person (policies are a different matter) for crying nor do I feel she should be ashamed to cry in public.

Edited

Feeling emotional is one thing. Not having the sense to step away from work while you pull yourself together is another. Feeling emotional is not just about tears, it is also about not being to weigh up decisions effectively.

justasking111 · 02/07/2025 15:13

Starmer told her team to cut PIP her team did so. Raynor NVQs orchestrated a rebellion, Starmer folded, Reeves team suffered.

Can none of you see that a dumb redhead puppet of the unions is being used to control the Labour party.

Raynor NVQs for prime minister. Does anyone think that's an improvement?

They are not incompetent though, that's the whole point of diversity hires, they are supported to bring about equality in society as without those structural changes, things just remain the same.

MyNameIsX · 02/07/2025 15:14

Right, after that pantomime in the HoC.

Back to Reeves’s competence as Chancellor (at time of writing).

Discuss.

Heylittlesongbird · 02/07/2025 15:14

I would imagine that her tears could well take Kier Starmer down with her. There are a lot of sites / people suggesting as Kemi Badenoch did that he is her inept boss who blames her for everything.

If you're going to get the sack anyway, there may well be some relief for her that her crying reflects badly on him that she was in that state in the first place.

Reported. Obviously. As if private school pupils are a major priority for the government.

Why are you reporting? It’s not a hate crime to dislike a politician and their policies. Get over yourself!

Around a quarter of families qualify for free school meals. It might be worth looking into if you are a lower income family.

We aren't eligible. Should be next year with the rule change. Have to wait until next September.

Jennps · 02/07/2025 15:15

Some dramatic tears on the front bench.

Imagine when Rayner takes over Two Tier. That will bring a whole new level of decorum to proceedings……not.

And these morons are supposed to be running the country.

edwinbear · 02/07/2025 15:15

I can’t see how she will still be in office by the end of the afternoon. Her professional reputation on the world stage is in tatters. You can’t have the Chancellor burst into tears for the world to see because you’ve had a row with your boss and feel a bit emotional. Then walk out holding your sisters hand for support.

We simply can’t send her in to negotiate with China and the US when they know she’s liable to burst into tears if things get a bit tricky.

Really your company would give you the time off to deal with your daughter's leukemia, in my friends case a three year battle.

SL2924 · 02/07/2025 15:16

She needs to toughen up if she wants to be in a role like that. Crying is not acceptable.

Why not? What's going to happen?

Nice bit of classism and sexism there mate.

When Labour royally roger us tax-payers over in October, are we permitted to blub?

Asking for a friend….

Aww thanks.

Acccusing people of sexism, racism to shut them down. Yeah, that ship sailed. Try harder.

MsMoody · 02/07/2025 15:17

The welfare bill in this country is completely out of control and getting worse. I feel sorry for her- she's trying to make the tough but correct decisions and is being sabotaged at every turn.

Sabotaged by her own colleagues - you left that part out.

That is very different to the original quote about crying all the time at anything, FFS talk about pouncing on dust.
