I broke down at the hospital yesterday after a diagnosis long awaited. Is that everyone's business?

And were you making decisions that would affect millions of people at the time?

Oh come on. Those decisions were not being made in the moment.

Neither was she at the time she was crying. She was sitting quietly while Kier Starmer was talking.

You were the one quoting it. There isn’t a single article on the first page of Google, which doesn’t quote her net worth in dollars. So where is the source for your £2million?

I know i realised my mistake ages ago but it got rid of you for a bit and made me laugh sorry 🤣🤣

I miss Thatcher as much as I miss my gallbladder.

Now why am I not surprised at that.

Silly cow. Behaving like this in public is just poor. She adds fuel to the fire that politics isn't for women and is a men's game. She should show a little self control or not turn up. Embarrassing.

The only embarrassing silly cow is you for these comments!

So she cried because she was told to say shorter answers which is fair as she waffles and then it makes it hard to understand what shes on about.

She's an appalling public speaker who is badly in need of further media training. I doubt that's high on her list of priorities at the moment though.

And why is that visible distress a good thing? She looked like decisions would be hard at any time.

justasking111 · 02/07/2025 15:05

There's some really bitchy comments on here. Outside of the HOC. HR would be down on you like a ton of bricks. You'd all be wailing if they didn't.

Btw men have shed a tear in the HOC. It's documented.

I struggle to include Mrs T and the PP in the same sentence.

well I’d like to retract anything I previously said. You sound entirely sane and intelligent. My apologies.

Can the average person in an office job cry because their performance is abysmal and have their boss tell everyone don't be mean?

Of one of the male MPs sat there crying because everyone pointed out their performance was dire, what would our reaction be? Are women who cry to get around performance reviews respected?

Does she have to sit there crying knowing everyone is watching, or does she have a choice, such as not being in the chamber? And if she wants everyone to see and knowing the attention that will get, what does that tell you?

Does she care at all about the many lives she is affecting by not stepping aside to let someone remotely competent do the job?

Iwillclasptheeagain · 02/07/2025 15:06

I think I like you, Blossomtoes, but just to be sure... you haven't got an album full of lovely photos of and an actual shrine to the memory of your gallbladder, have you?

Shambles123 · 02/07/2025 14:49

At work?!

My boss cried in a meeting with me the other day.
Her daughter has cancer (she’s 7)
You happy now?

Soulfulunfurling · 02/07/2025 15:07

The dignity of this country has gone to the dogs.

Next Labour will be arriving in onesies with duvets clamped around their shoulders claiming they are setting a good example.

If you can’t take the heat, stay out of the kitchen. It was fun in opposition taking the piss relentlessly then. Where was the LP compassion then? This is karma and it will keep coming.

Scraping together VAT for private school whilst I scrape together money to pay school dinner debt. 🫣

Around a quarter of families qualify for free school meals. It might be worth looking into if you are a lower income family.

TheFairyCaravan · 02/07/2025 13:15

I was at risk of having my PIP taking away. I don’t hold Rachel Reeves solely responsible for that. Liz Kendall is the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, she could have chosen any other part of the welfare system to reform, instead of PIP, but she didn’t.

I don’t disagree with cuts to Winter Fuel Allowance either, it was just the threshold that was too low, now imo it’s too high. We need to get away from this notion that pensioners are all poor because they’re absolutely not.

And we need to get away from the notion hat all pensioners are rich/comfortable because they are absolutely not.

ClosetBasketCase · 02/07/2025 15:08

Christ, well, she bought it on herself. KS needs to go, as do all the labour idiots.

Zero Sympathy

I think deciding to go to PMQs when a personal matter has caused so much distress was a poor move on her part.

But given what has happened with the disastrous benefits vote and the impact on finances, there would have been endless speculation about her being sacked, or too scared to show her face,if she hadn't come. How many of us have felt obliged to put a brave face on and go to work when we want to scream into a pillow? And that's without the public purse being your job. I dont particularly like her but I definitely feel sorry for her today. She looks absolutely knackered.

You think she was only upset during the broadcast of PMQs? Not at all before? And all upset evaporated the moment the cameras stopped rolling? Or that that visible upset so soon after losing a chunk of her welfare bill won’t impact on how other politicians see her?

No, being a woman means no such thing. This kind of dumbed down narrative is what causes the accusations of ‘diversity hire’ whenever a woman is promoted.

I am actually pro diversity hires if it means not everyone in power is male. Lets face it, much of British life, due to its class culture and old boy network has been completely impenetrable until recently, why should women not cry, men can cry too at work and do. Besides, I am sure the negativity around 'diversity hires' was most likely started by a disgruntled male. Many issues around the world would be solved by more upset from those ruling it.

I think politicians should get paid well as let's be fair its a shit job but the problem with that it makes it hard for them to understand how some of the poorest people in society are actually living their completely out of touch.

Yes, it's tricky. Those with money, you would hope, would do it for service to the country and not be afraid of the whip. But the reality is they are just as likely to want be an MP to inform policy and be one step ahead of changes to protect their, and their mates, interests.

Larger salaries would make being an MP even more attractive (don't forget they have the best pensions and expense accounts - push they can carry on working as long as they declare it) but threat of losing the whip already leads many to betraying their principles, and betraying their constituents. A higher salary would be even harder to give up. Anyway - another time, another thread.

NorthXNorthWest · 02/07/2025 15:10

I am totally fine with her crying, I just wish she had stuck her guns. She is feeling emotional and she should be able to express that. I'm not a fan but I don't think less of her as person (policies are a different matter) for crying nor do I feel she should be ashamed to cry in public.

A quarter of families? Are you sure? The criteria is earning less than £7k a year?
