The markets are tanking because the UK has shown itself to be addicted to handouts. Starmer and Reeves have at least tried to sort it out but the public are unable to take even the smallest of cuts.

Ihateboris · 02/07/2025 13:58

I reckon she'll be gone very soon.

ShouldWeGoAway · 02/07/2025 13:58

lighthouseahoy · 02/07/2025 13:55

Silly cow. Behaving like this in public is just poor. She adds fuel to the fire that politics isn't for women and is a men's game. She should show a little self control or not turn up. Embarrassing.

Awful comment.

I cried at work. I'd just been told my son had died.

That’s precisely the attitude that has meant people are struggling to find sympathy. I totally understand that people have different beliefs, and I understand why some might not agree with private education. However, whatever your political views are, relishing in happy children being disrupted is really quite unpleasant. It’s this smug, spiteful attitude that many of us find hard to relate to.

The only reason why many people say they don’t agree with private education is because they either can’t afford it or won’t make the sacrifices necessary in order to do so. VAT on private school fees was never about money. It was just leverage to gain votes. The money made (if there is any once rhe cost of children entering the state system is taken into account) won’t be passed onto state schools. Neither will teachers go from private into state. They’ll leave the profession or move to private schools abroad.

in any case, the damage is done and she relished every second. I don’t feel sorry for her in the slightest. I’m sure farmers and pensioners won’t have.much sympathy either!

littleblueenvelope · 02/07/2025 13:59

@roses2remember that anytime you have an emotional moment! We are human beings not fucking robots!

Whilst I can emphasise with crying under pressure, I don't sympathise with her.
I'm being made redundant, like many others, as my employer can't afford the increased NI payments. I was also at risk of losing my disability benefits not to mention eldery people afraid about their fuel allowances. Now I hear savings will be at risk too, the savings I may need to tide me through redundancy.

How are savings going to be "at risk"? Is the government going to take them away from you?

Of course not.

There may be changes to taxes on the interest earned, which is not putting savings "at risk".

2024onwardsandup · 02/07/2025 14:00

It’s just another way of showing emotions - insane men shouting with spittle is far worse in my opinion

Awful comment.

I cried at work. I'd just been told my son had died.

She shouldn't have gone into the chamber and sat behind the Prime Minister during the most watched parliamentary session of the week. This isn't going into the loos at work and having a cry.

MrsKeats · 02/07/2025 13:24

It's not an opinion. It's vile vitriol. You want her dead. Which is hate speech. Your account should be banned. I will make sure that happens.

You're being ridiculous. Keep going & get yourself banned.

UrbanFan · 02/07/2025 14:00

DorothyandtheWizard · 02/07/2025 13:03

You were watching a different PMQs to me.

I watched it all apart from the first 5 minutes and didn't see any tears.

She wasn't crying.

She looks like she's not slept for days but neither has much of the SE because of the heat.

Kemi said she looked 'miserable' at which point she was grinning like a Cheshire cat.

Edited

She's clearly crying. Tears and the lips trembling. Very clear clips on YouTube of her crying and not just a sniffle.

EasternStandard · 02/07/2025 14:00

pinkingshears · 02/07/2025 13:57

I don't like to see anyone in distress like that in their workplace.
I see that a statement has been put out that RR was upset due to personal issues. That can happen to any of us. She may have a sick parent/child/pet or another sudden worrying thing going on. OR she may be so gutted by what is happening in Labour re policies she couldn't hold that back.

Either way, Bad-Enoch (as my teens call her) will put the boot in I imagine.
I wonder if RR will be able to carry on now or will resign to 'spend more time with family' (as per so many male Tories who were caught out in John Major's era)?

Silly nicknames re Badenoch

Soulfulunfurling · 02/07/2025 13:55

I have already posted that - you need to read the whole thread.

That does not mean your post @13:34 was not incorrect and that was the post I was responding to.

smallglassbottle · 02/07/2025 14:01

I doubt she's crying any more than those on the receiving end of her government's policies are. The disabled, the young (screwed over yet again), those being made redundant. At least she'll still have a home and can pay her bills.

2dogsandabudgie · 02/07/2025 14:01

PandoraSocks · 02/07/2025 13:45

I don't like Reeves at all she is a Red Tory and I am opposed to her politics. Labour has lost my support.

But I agree with this. Watching her at PMQs basically having a breakdown in public was horrible. Starting a thread to put the boot in is just not on.

If it's for personal reasons as they are claiming then why let her attend. It's obvious everyone is going to speculate and that her face will be plastered all over the media. Just another bad decision by Labour.

Rinoachicken · 02/07/2025 14:02

That the markets are now reacting to the fact that chancellor of the country has been seen visibly crying on the front bench, on the TV, throughout PMQs is exactly why she should not have gone in there today.

if it is a personal reason, bereavement etc, she would not be the first front bencher, or even PM, to be excused from the house/PMQs for the is reason and in those cases even the opposition and media show some understanding and don’t make a thing out if it.

That would have been the more appropriate decision, especially given her position in government. All of the speculation and market upset would have been avoided.

iif it is a personal issue then I do feel for her on a human level of course, but I do think that if that was the case, given the public nature of her job, and she was evidently so distressed, it was poor judgement from her and those advising her to have her in front of the world cameras.

LadyKenya · 02/07/2025 14:02

alexalisten · 02/07/2025 13:54

Of course she is saying personal reasons she's not going to say she cant cope with her job is she

She could be saying that, because that is exactly what it could be, and nothing to do with her job.

PandoraSocks · 02/07/2025 14:02

Kreepture · 02/07/2025 13:56

If its a personal matter then i'm sorry she is going through whatever it is. I would say she probably should have thought twice about sitting behind Kier in full view of the worlds cameras the day after such a spectacular party own goal.. but maybe she didn't have a choice.

My feelings on the party and what they've done stand.

If she hadn't appeared at PMQs she would have been ripped to shreds by the media. And MN.

littleblueenvelope · 02/07/2025 14:02

@BoredZeldatotally agree!! All stirred up by the media! Can’t wait for this on benefits to see what happens when Farage gets in power! Yet the media won’t be holding him to account at all and you’ll have lost your voice! So carry on whipping up a shit storm and reap what you sow!

Howmanycatsistoomany · 02/07/2025 14:03

3luckystars · 02/07/2025 12:43

I think I would keel over first and get carted out before I’d let the tears out in front of people at work

Edited

Same.

She's not fit for the job (none of them are, and I had high hopes for this government).

Another76543 · 02/07/2025 14:03

littleblueenvelope · 02/07/2025 13:47

@Another76543if you can afford private school, you are one of the privileged few! It’s like those people that plead poverty but don’t want to touch their savings!!!!

I’m not disagreeing that lots of people can’t afford private school. However, the fact remains that lots of families have been failed by the state provision, especially SEN children, and their families are scrimping and saving to try to give their children a better chance. Those are the families who are most affected and are having to change schools. The wealthier have pre-paid and avoided the VAT. There are families in tears and desperate to try to help their children.

Rachel Reeves, and many others in that party, have openly sneered and said they want all private schools closed. It has absolutely nothing to do with raising funds or standards in the state sector. It has everything to do with punishing others, whilst stamping their feet to the chants of “but it’s not fair”.

I still cannot understand the mindset that anyone better off should be punished in some way. There are plenty of people better off than me, but that doesn’t mean I wish them harm or think they should have things taken from them. Sneering at others and wishing them harm in any way is a deeply unpleasant trait.

Let’s be honest, the entire UK population has the benefit of a welfare state and the NHS, something only 3rd world countries could dream of. Instead of recognising that they are better off than lots of the world population though, they are so short sighted that they try to attack those who they perceive as better off than them.

She shouldn't have gone into the chamber and sat behind the Prime Minister during the most watched parliamentary session of the week. This isn't going into the loos at work and having a cry.

She thought she could deal with it. She couldn't, but full marks for trying.

Jennps · 02/07/2025 14:03

The world must be laughing. At these people running a government.

You can see it @DorothyandtheWizard?

It was after the question about confidence in her. More likely related to that.

Awful comment.

I cried at work. I'd just been told my son had died.

Yes exactly! I cried when I MC in the toilet!

why shouldn’t people in the public eye cry? Men and women? It shows they are human and maybe give a shit?

only an utter twat would take from that the idea that women aren’t fit for public office!

it’s okay for Trump to no bat shit crazy at his pal Elon but not for a cabinet minister to have a wobble?

@ShouldWeGoAway - I’m sorry for your loss
