I’m probably being a prude but…

…what is the deal with teenage girls running around basically naked these days?

Last week, I was driving down the road near a secondary school at letting out time and I must have seen about 5 girls’ actual bum cheeks as they were leaving school. Like, we all rolled our skirts up fairly short at school, but this was actually full knickers and bums on display… one girl was wearing a thong so it was just her whole bum on show.

Then, I was on the beach today (we live near the sea) with my two primary school aged sons and there were a group of maybe 13-14 year old girls, they were very young, more than half of whom were in thong bikinis. They spent most of the time on the beach doing a photoshoot, predominantly photos of them from behind looking out to sea, presumably for social media?!

I know teenagers have always been teenagers, but I’m pretty sure underage girls weren’t wearing thong bikinis on the beach when I was that age 😳

I could see other families on the beach felt uncomfortable with it too.

Do their parents know? Is this just how teenagers dress these days?

I am not referring to the beach where there are acceptable levels of nudity - i am referring to "in general" and I think you will see that quite a lot of the thread is also talking more broadly.

In general when the weather gets above 20 degrees in the UK then teen boys walk around topless at risk from paedos showing their nipples, their knicker line and bum crack.

Do not assume it is restricted to the beach this behaviour.

I'm just chuckling at the thought that you also rolled up your skirt at their age "but not that much" 😁😁 oh please.

As someone who did roll their skirt up - as did all the girls in the 70s at my school - I can assure you that we did not roll them up as much as has been described here. Even if we had wanted to we would never have been allowed to by any of the teachers, and any parents who had seen us outside of the school would have had a blue fit

You aren't quite the know-all you think you are.

Oh my god, they have bum cheeks!?!?!

Who'd have thought??

your sons have them too, they won't care unless YOU make a big deal of it.

if I still had a pert young bottom id probably let it see the sunshine in this weather too! Sadly it's an aging arse that no one needs (in public anyway) to see these days!?

you're only young once & id rather the girls had the confidence to do it than sat sweltering hiding themselves away! I know there's plenty of 'in between' but frankly I can't get bothered by a bit of flesh!

You're not bothered by teenage girls flesh but I worry about drawing attention from paedophiles.

Maybe that's just me...

Male nipples are not secondary sexual characteristics as they are for females.

Female nipples are for feeding babies.

ALL children in the vicinity of a paedo are at risk.

ItsHere · 30/06/2025 10:07

Field day for perverts but people do not seem to care anymore, there is no decency or decorum anymore🙄

OntheBorder1 · 30/06/2025 10:07

Jigaliga · 30/06/2025 09:19

Yeah, I've noticed this too. Its embarrassing, like you say its literally whole bums out, and especially ones that aren't in the best of shape 😅
I feel the same about men who feel the need to whip their tops off whenever this country hits the absolutely INSANE and UNBEARABLE temperature of 30C.

Hardly the same thing. For goodness sake, don't come to the Southern Hemisphere if you can't cope with men with no tops on (struggling to see what's so horrific about it though, it's just a fact of life here).

Redburnett · 30/06/2025 10:09

The (male) lifeguards at my local pool just love the thong swimsuits. You can almost see their eyes popping out of their heads as they gawp.
At least the lot at my pool have good figures....

henlake7 · 30/06/2025 10:09

Nobody needs to be getting their arse cheeks and nipples out on the daily IMO.
Maybe at the beach or if you are in a job where overheating is an issue but in general?
Nope, and def not schoolkids!

Pennyforyourthoughtsplease · 30/06/2025 04:33

Well maybe because they're not doing the splits (not really the splits, but pulling their thighs apart) and their vulva is coming out? Sorry to be crude, but that was the situation and you seem quite clueless. The child was about 10 or 11.

Why on earth don’t they wear tights - footless ones for safety - under leotards? I feel uncomfortable watching adult women gymnasts on tv never mind children. Male gymnasts wear unitards or shorts and vest.It seems to be a very sexist sport.

Worldgonecrazy · 30/06/2025 10:11

YANBU

It’s the relentless drive of pornification, ever younger and younger. The young girls are only responding to the pressures of social media, without the life experience to realise how grim the question for male-gaze approval really is.

I can’t imagine what it must be like to be young and on social media, with the over use of filters, the constant quest for approval, the rigid definition of what it is to be a sexual young woman. It’s all pretty grim - no wonder we see so many mental health issues.

No idea what the solution is - who are the girls going to listen to? Their ‘friends’, their followers on social media? Or a bunch of older women who they are as irrelevant and/or jealous?

The aspiration of becoming a Dubai Potty didn’t arise in a vacuum.

chocolatemademefat · 30/06/2025 10:15

Too much social media and young teenagers believing they’re adults when really they’re lacking sense. I was probably the same at that age - but I didn’t show my arse. The way things are going they’ll be leaving the house naked soon.

Do grow up, you can't blame one lot for what the other lot choose to wear.

I hope this catches on, would love to hear the comments! Bet everyone will be calling the police!

But it's so empowering!

You can recognise the place of patriarchy in female beauty standards and the indoctrination of children to be accepting of these.

Female nipples are for feeding babies.

They are also sexual characteristics - develop at puberty, not directly involved in reproduction.
If you are talking about just the nipple (which would be pretty hard to regard independently to the breast on a female) then they also undergo changes at puberty.

Mumble12 · 30/06/2025 10:43

i absolutely hate it too. My girls school only allows trousers for both sexes and I love it (they hate it!) but the other local school is skirts and they are indecently short

blandana · 30/06/2025 10:45

Fetaface · 30/06/2025 08:43

Safety? Does long fabric keep you safe?

Imagine thinking a sex offender/rapist is going to think ah shit man can't rape her coz she has a longer skirt on. Damn scuppered by some cotton!

So you’re saying it makes no difference if girls are naked or clothed to the way they are viewed?

Of course clothes themselves don’t provide safety, I didn’t say that, but how you dress is one war of signalling your boundaries.

Ha ha, men flashing their dicks is so empowering, I guess this is why they do it! 🤣

MrsSunshine2b · 30/06/2025 10:52

It's not new, I remember the same issues when I was in school although it definitely wasn't allowed at my independent school.

Personally, I don't know why they still insist on uniforms. It's nothing like professional office wear, especially for girls, and it doesn't stop bullying.

Most teenagers generally go around in big baggy hoodies and jogging bottoms which are surely preferable to how many of them wear their uniform.

AnonymousBleep · 30/06/2025 10:52

I'm a prude too in that case. If we lived in the sort of society where girls can walk about freely without being judged for having their bums on show, then yeah, let it all hang out. We don't though. It's one of those things that girls probably think is 'empowering' but really isn't.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 30/06/2025 10:52

Sorry haven't rtft but I agree OP. I was at a music concert recently with lots of teens and I noticed butt cheeks on display, it's a new things. Whatever about the exposed bellies and legs, I think butt cheeks is a step too far. I don't think its prudish to cover bums at a minimum.

I don't think its just a teen issue, I've seen young women wearing those bikinis that are narrow in front so they can show off their freshly shaved vulva, seriously wtf? I They are designed solely for attention seeking IMO, they wear them to encourage people to stare at them so they can then get huffy and accuse people of staring or body shaming or whatever.

There was a thread recently of lots of women complaining about men going shirtless, many people agreed it's not nice so it's not just you OP that doesn't like naked body parts. I hope all the people who were so critical of men being exhibitionists are agreeing with this thread now, otherwise it's a double standard.

ExpressCheckout · 30/06/2025 10:58

Like other posters, I'm in two minds about this. So, here's a question: imagine there's a man or women with a camera on the beach, taking photos of these girls (or boys). This could be a stranger or a parent, you don't know.

Is this:

(A) Not OK, obviously not innocent behaviour, report them to the authorities?
(B) A member of the public, taking photos in a public place, so it's totally legal?

Does this change anyone's mind?

And men that are raped are wearing what exactly? Short skirts and titty tassels? Ridiculous to think how you dress sets boundaries.
