Not serious ones like Diana was murdered etc, but silly little ones.

For example,

when it comes to wipes in a packet, I’m positive they rig it so more than one wipe comes out at a time. Then they make the sticky reseal not as sticky so they dry out quicker meaning you have to go and buy more instead of using what you’ve got

Toothpaste pricing is a long term social economics experiment.

Had a good laugh at Big Umbrella and Big Bay!

Biscuits. Used to open at the end and you'd fold the extra wrapping around to keep the rest fresh. Now they have those strips that open the pack two biscuits down, so you have to eat those two biscuits plus another 2-3 (usually 3!) to get some spare wrapper to fold up! I have a cuppa and have no choice but to eat 5 biscuits!

(I probably could still open them in the traditional way if I tried, but still...)

My local petrol station has its pumps calibrated to never hit £x:00

you can literally stand there going “94, 95, 96, 97, 98, 99……. £1:02”

wtf?

It used to really annoy me to go over the pounds and into the pennies.
Now I just roll with it eg - £49.03 when I was aiming for £49 - no problem.

I refuse to use umbrellas, ever. Horrid things.

I love my umbrella. It cost me a pretty penny but it’s been 4 or 5 years and it’s still good as new

Loyalty cards collect data, it's kind of alarming how much info is out there about our daily comings & goings.

Anne McCaffrey wrote a short story in 1973 predicting how unguarded people get with everyday computer use., but as 'they' say 'if you have nothing to hide...'. Not sure if 'they' say that in China & Russia.

In the 70's my dad used to complain about communist agitators at his union meetings & I was young enough to think him paranoid, then I read 'spycatcher'.

After Strava, Polar is Revealing the Homes of Soldiers and Spies - bellingcat

Polar, a fitness app, is revealing the homes and lives of people exercising in secretive locations, such as intelligence agencies, military bases and airfields, nuclear weapons storage sites, and embassies around the world, a joint investigation of Bel...

Same!! I’m convinced it’s cos they know people will carry on and round up…..

just filled up this morning….. £50:02 they got out of me and not a penny more 🤣

JackJarvisEsq · 27/06/2025 08:43

The petrol pump thing bothered me when I was young and mostly paid cash but these days I just fill till it clicks and since it’s pretty much all debit card I’m not fussed about how much it is

actually, that’s not true I’m very fussed about how much it is and why I buy my fuel at Costco which is about 10p a litre cheaper than the station a mile from it

The fact that you never get lids on pots of cream or yoghurt anymore, just the peel back foil, meaning it's harder to keep them for more than one use.

It frustrates me so much, I love hummus (think that's how it's spelt lol) and recently all the pots have these lids 💔

Toothpaste pricing is a long term social economics experiment.

Roadworks are a long term psychology experiment, the white coats have moved on from rats.

When I'm unable to find things at home because they've 'been moved' I know it's really my other half practicing 'environmental enrichment' (like zoos making animals hunt for their food ) and obviously I'm incredibly grateful for the exercise....

Also, in the words of 'calvin & hobbes' , television is the opiate of the masses.

Definitely think 'big-purse' uses a lot of pressure to ensure women's clothes have either non or useless pockets to make sure they keep buying handbags and purses. Not sure of the logistics but definitely makes sense.

What is a non pocket? Stitching that's meant to look like a pocket?

You are so right! But I like the sound of 'big biscuit', there's a marketing opportunity in there somewhere.

The game show Pointless is just that.. eg. how can they prove that 1 person named a country beginning with X - game shows should be questions that are either correct or not. I reckon they just say 1 person said it to avoid paying the jackpot at the end (which is usually not worth it for the effort put in anyway)

I swear I've seen the counters on 'tipping point' move by themselves.

This is true! I am sure of it...

I agree with you about the wipes. It's damn near impossible to get just one out of the packet after the first few. And if you try to stuff it back in,it inevitably dries out. Just another ploy to make us buy more.

I found this issue with huggies but not pampers

AutumnFog · 27/06/2025 09:42

eqpi4t2hbsnktd · 27/06/2025 09:31

This is true! I am sure of it...

It actually is if short sighted. Your eyesight gets worse the less long distance work that the eyes have to do.
The optician told us that's why they don't give glasses for low levels of short sighted vision in children, and for my own glasses a different optician told me to make sure I'm not always wearing them to stop sight deteriorating faster.

Cone-gate. My theory is local councils don’t pay for enough storage for all their traffic cones so once a road works is finished the councils put up more road works elsewhere so they just move cones to a new place. That’s why there is always roadworks going on with no one seemingly working there and loads of unnecessary cones 😂Random cones everywhere!

That’s hilarious!!!

There's an invented technology to make very robust untearable tights, but big tight companies bought it and aren't releasing it.

Bccbonbon · 27/06/2025 10:27

and interior design manipulation by companies who want our homes to be like fast fashion paying influencers. Bifolds were amazing. They'd be a classic, they connected us to the outdoors. Then suddenly bifolds are bad, critalls are great. People rush to buy crittal. Oh wait let's bring back French doors. They are so classy. People rush to buy French doors..
Open plan was amazing. Oh no open plan is terrible you get too much time with others. The noise the smell. Bring back multiple little rooms.
Ad infinitum.
Maybe there's a interior design mass manipulation council somewhere.

I feel that many quiz shows are rigged. Agree that one person on pointless is hard to prove , plus who do they ask ? I’ve never been asked.
I don’t think the coughing man on Millionaire was being fake , it was because they didn’t want to pay out to them as they had set up their own ‘quango ‘ to try and win it with some others and it was all a coincidence.
9/11 happened soon afterwards so it dropped out of the news anyway.

Women used to have pockets in their clothes, either incorporated in to the clothing or a separate pocket you wore under your top layer.

They disappeared when the suffragettes were accused of carrying things like hat pins to carry out their 'deeds'.

As for the glasses making your eye sight worse, I was at the optician on Wednesday, my distance vision has improved.

You naturally become more long sighted with age.
