Silly little conspiracies you believe in

Not serious ones like Diana was murdered etc, but silly little ones.

For example,

when it comes to wipes in a packet, I’m positive they rig it so more than one wipe comes out at a time. Then they make the sticky reseal not as sticky so they dry out quicker meaning you have to go and buy more instead of using what you’ve got

Don’t know if this will be considered “silly” or “serious,” but…

Leonardo DiCaprio has been in a romantic relationship with Lukas Haas for many years, and publicly dates women to hide this fact. He makes the same deal with a series of young, relatively little-known models - they date him for a few years, which will make them more famous and give him and Lukas some cover, and then they can go their separate ways with both sides having benefitted from the deal. That’s why he dates women 25 and under. Older models already have established careers and are probably less interested in messing around with a fake relationship.

Lukas Haas goes pretty much everywhere with Leo, and some years ago, Lukas’s grandmother said he and Leo lived together. I’ve been hearing “Leo is gay” rumors since my family got the internet in 2002, and about half the time I see them, they mention Lukas Haas. Kate Winslet, who’s one of Leo’s close friends as well as his past co-star, said a few years ago that she could think of at least four different actors she knew who were in the closet because they didn’t want their sexuality to negatively impact their careers.

Well, back to the small stuff... That the cheaper range of goods agree not to make things look great to not compete with the pricier end. I mean - outing myself as a bloke - to make a wristwatch that looks like a Christopher Ward can't be that pricey, but they don't, the cheaper watches are made to look a bit crap too. It's similar to 'built in obsolescence' theory raised on the first page.

Also that M&S have some tax fiddle going that allows them to sell men's clothing that, socks and underwear aside, looks somehow deliberately crap.

Clothing is marked a size down to con the buyer into thinking they're really a Medium when in fact they're XL, to flatter them. Result - a morbidly obese population.

My mum is convinced that they hire small actors for sofa adverts to make the sofas look bigger lol

FrangipaniBlue · 26/06/2025 23:02

My local petrol station has its pumps calibrated to never hit £x:00

you can literally stand there going “94, 95, 96, 97, 98, 99……. £1:02”

wtf?

Cats understand human language perfectly. They just choose to completely ignore any request we make of them.

Completely with you on this one!

I said silly little conspiracies. Nothing serious.

I think it is silly that they’ve gotten away with it for this long 🤷‍♀️

Dappy777 · 26/06/2025 22:40

I know you said silly conspiracies, but, to be honest, I always thought there was something fishy about Diana’s death. And also the death of Jill Dando. Jill Dando’s murder was one of the weirdest news events I have lived through.

I guess you are ok to mention these but my comment on the mcanns was deleted 🤷‍♀️

Sudocrem is a barrier cream that stops nappies being absorbent, leading to nappy rash, leading to you needing to use more Sudocrem.

I will have nothing said against sudocrem - it is the cure-all go to in our house

My husband thinks the same 🤔

I can confirm that this is nonsense - thankfully.

Ive wotn glasses since I was 9 and Im now 48yo. 6yo my prescription was -5.75 and it is now -3.25.

I dont know how or why - why it improves significantly every year.

Steelworks · 27/06/2025 04:11

You’re in the shower or bath and about to wash your hair. Why is it that 90% of the time you pick the conditioner up first? Definitely something suspicious going on there.

“We are having a higher call volume than normal. Please hold. Your call is important to us”

Yeah yeah yeah. You ALWAYS say there is a higher call volume

Not a conspiracy. During Covid I bought a sofa which was faulty, the message when I rang each time was high call volume, please contact us via email so I did. Each time I emailed it took them 7 days to reply! After an email exchange that had gone on for over a month it was getting ridiculous so I decided to just wait it out on the phone. I listened to the message about high call volumes and extended waits, the phone rang and was answered within a half a ring! It was all sorted out and collection organised in a few minutes. The woman on the phone told me she was working for home and most days didn't get a single call come through.

My husband thinks once you become a glasses wearer your eyesight rapidly declines...

I completely agree with him. Went for my first eye test because I was sometimes starting to mistake 2s and 7s in small print. Optician prescribed reading glasses. Within 2 weeks I could no longer read without them. (Still have the same prescription 20 years later so it wasn't an eye condition.)

.... random conversations in front of your phone changes the adverts it targets you with.......👂

Most definitely- that’s fact, not a conspiracy theory!

Devices do spy on us - of course. I always get recommendations for things I’ve recently been talking about.

Theres definitely traffic gremlins out there. If you are running late, you always hit every red traffic light, and/or stuck behind a bus or dustbin lorry. However, if you leave in plenty of time, the traffic lights are always green.

By card in a shop. Surely this tracking doesn’t extend to card use in shops too?!

Perhaps your card is linked to your Apple or Google wallet and it tracks what you’re buying on your card through that? But having said that, card purchases don’t have itemised receipts as far as I know? So maybe not. Unless it was a particularly popular/newly released title and you bought it from Waterstones or something then I can see why you may get ads that just happen to be for the same book you bought.

Otherwise, you might have discussed it with a cashier or a friend and the mic has picked up on it and geared the ads towards you.

Catherine, Princess of Wales only had one wedding dress. There was a lace overlay for the church ceremony with the train that was removed for the evening reception and she added a sparkly belt and fluffy cardigan. That’s why there’s no ‘second dress’ to exhibit.

they were different dresses. I saw the dress on display and it clearly had very elaborate appliqué all round the hem which doesn’t show on the majority of the photos. The evening dress didn’t have this. Sorry!!

Links to other sites are strategically placed so you will inadvertently click on them with your thumb when doom scrolling through an app and get a webpage open up. Gives me the absolute rage

I work in websites and advertising. This one is absolutely true, actually a lot of money is spent working out where to place buttons and advertising on websites. Whole teams of people just running tests to determine which configuration makes them the most money. You can even have a career in it.

If this is true
Why is this a problem in this day and age
I can understand back in the day this happening but not now.

My elderly male neighbour thinks that his battery keeps failing because the police are controlling his car! He’s written a couple of negative opinion pieces on the internet and is convinced they’re onto him. Advice to get his car electrics checked falls on deaf ears.

That's not a conspiracy theory, that's psychosis.

There is a fine line.

Definitely think 'big-purse' uses a lot of pressure to ensure women's clothes have either non or useless pockets to make sure they keep buying handbags and purses. Not sure of the logistics but definitely makes sense.

How much do you want to fit in your pockets?
Women tend to, by choice, carry a lot more around than men - and men look bad enough as it is with wallet and phones in their pockets.

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 27/06/2025 07:45

Cone-gate. My theory is local councils don’t pay for enough storage for all their traffic cones so once a road works is finished the councils put up more road works elsewhere so they just move cones to a new place. That’s why there is always roadworks going on with no one seemingly working there and loads of unnecessary cones 😂Random cones everywhere!
