Mine are either mon petit chou-fleur (cauliflower)/mon petit chou (cabbage). Not even French but inherited from my mother. Or.........a silly sausage if they are being daft 😂.

Wanttobefree2 · 24/06/2025 16:13

I used to, but really have no idea why 😂

Some of my friends used to call their son “little man”, that used to drive me nuts!!

I really detest 'little man'. 😡

Namechangetry · 24/06/2025 16:27

My dad calls me and my siblings all saus. Also saus woss. We're all middle aged and he still does.We used to wonder whether it was so he didn't have to remember our names or know who was which.

My DC are monkey chops and lion. Obviously.

JustGoClickLikeALightSwitch · 24/06/2025 13:51

I've got one Sausage, one Banana and a Moomin.

Cute!

WimbyAce · 24/06/2025 16:29

For some reason I call mine boobie or boob 🙈 I try not to in public.

Fragmentedbrain · 24/06/2025 14:05

I think I interpret sausage as passive aggressive is one thing

Like you're annoyed with someone else present and say "COME ON SAUSAGE" then stalk off

I concede that's probably reading too much into it

What has a sausage ever done to you?

GloryDias · 24/06/2025 16:31

Don't know about sausage but I call my daughter 'pudding' or 'pud', she's 23 and I still occasionaly say it 😁

MsFelicityLemon · 24/06/2025 16:32

I've a Sausage, s Rasher, an Egg and a Waffle.

As diminutive it's Sausie, 'Sher and Waf. Egg is just Egg, however people think we named her after a character in This Life, which is terribly embarrassing.

Sometimes people think Waf is American, but what can you do? They're just old fashioned.

SatsumaDog · 24/06/2025 15:02

My grandparents were Welsh and my Nana used to say that too.

Ah must be a Welsh thing then 😍

Butchyrestingface · 24/06/2025 16:34

I was

the wean
teeny bash
baw jaws

Don't think I was ever "sausage". I have no aversion to it though. My mum LOATHED the ubiquitous (in our neck of the woods) "hen".

IDontHateRainbows · 24/06/2025 16:34

I do actually yes.

When they were younger we used to make a 'sausage roll' which was a kind of cuddle where you roll around. Jeez that sounds weird. They'd kill me if I did that now.

permanentdamage · 24/06/2025 16:37

My youngest is sweetpea when he's good, and shitpeas when he's naughty (but only behind back!).

Soubriquet · 24/06/2025 16:39

Yep

Hey sausage. How was school

scalt · 24/06/2025 16:41

comeandhaveteawithme · 24/06/2025 13:47

Occasionally. Usually in a "silly sausage" context, but sometimes just sausage.

There's a school dad who always calls his child sausage. Always. I have never heard him use her name and I don't know what it is. But he's sweet and kind and she's a happy child so I while it's very mildly annoying, I don't really care.

Perhaps her name is Anna Magdalena; a character in a book who hated people shortening her long name, and her uncle called her sausage.

PansyPotter84 · 24/06/2025 16:43

I promise I’m not a troll, but DD has one friend who’s parents always address her as (name)-ypoos

🤮

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 24/06/2025 16:43

I think calling kids "darling" is worse.

normanprice62 · 24/06/2025 16:45

Why do you care.

LittleGreenDuck · 24/06/2025 16:46

Mine is Bean. Stems from my first pregnancy scan when the midwife told me he was the size of a bean. He's taller the me now, but still my little Bean.

Shhhhitsmagic · 24/06/2025 16:46

My parents called me sausage, and I call my kids sausage or chicken or darling 😂 Never really given it much thought!

DrPrunesqualer · 24/06/2025 16:46

Groundhedgehogday · 24/06/2025 14:12

Yes he's a sausage. We're vegetarian, so technically he's a veggie sausage.

When his cousins are round they are all sausages.

Vegetarian here too and one of ours was called sausage. He’s grown up now so call him hotdog instead 🤣

PansyPotter84 · 24/06/2025 16:47

That said… best avoid anything which might be offensive in future…

Sausage- offensive to vegans, veggies and faiths who don’t eat pork.

Poppet- offensive to anyone who has ever choked on a small, hard, marble-like sweet.

Chicken- (and variants) see above.

Monkey- I probably don’t need to explain that one.

Sweetie- offensive to people with diabetes.

Little man- offensive to people with Dwarfism and vaguely adulting.

Pud/ Pudding- offensive to people with body issues.

Am I being goady? 😜

Bundleflower · 24/06/2025 16:49

I’ve gone with ‘dude’, I’m afraid.

CaptainMyCaptain · 24/06/2025 16:49

Unorganisedchaos2 · 24/06/2025 16:33

Ah must be a Welsh thing then 😍

Eggs are referred to as Chucky eggs in Derbyshire too.

At least two vegetarians on this site have already said they use sausage as a nickname. Including myself

Sausages are not just made of meat

Goady- yep- but MNetters can handle that. It’s a nice day 💐

LittleGreenDuck · 24/06/2025 16:50

Oh and my youngest gets "Actual name Von Crinkle Bottom". No idea where that came from.
