My local skip is a very busy place. There is often a huge queue of cars and once you are in the queue, you absolutely cannot leave, there is no way of driving out of it or turning around due to the way it's structured. You're going through the skip, and that's that.

Today, I was in the queue of doom and a worker walked along the line of cars and told everyone that they just needed to use the crusher before they could let anyone through and to do that, they needed to wait until the cars already parked up and using the skips, had all left, then they could use the crusher and start letting people in again. It was my lunchbreak so I was in a bit of a rush, but nothing I could do.

But watching the people already using the skip was so irritating. They knew there was a line of approximately 20-30 cars waiting, they knew no one else could enter until every car had gone, but they all sauntered back and forth with their stuff from their boots, they stopped and chatted to one another, one guy had a quick cigarette before getting in his car, another sat in the drivers seat and did something on his phone before slowly putting on his seatbelt and leaving...

I just cannot understand people who are so incredibly slow and insist on doing unnecessary things in busy places where people are clearly waiting to use the thing they are using.

The other day, a waitress bringing our food to out table stopped mid-way and chatted to a customer she knew, while holding our plates of food, letting them get cold - why? talk on the way back if you must!

And the amount of people I see letting their toddlers use their debit cards to pay while smiling indulgently as the kids drops the card or taps it wrong with a queue of people waiting, or who stand at the till transferring money, or ask the bus driver an endless series of questions with a whole busload of people waiting, plus the 50 cars behind the bus....

If you are one of these people who fuck about, why? and are you also irritated by the fucking about or am I just far too angry?

My current pet hate is parents at nursery who insist on allowing their just walking toddlers to walk all the way from their parked cars, across the car park, up the step, though 2 secure doors (whilst trying to navigate the door threshold, often stumbling in the process) and along the corridor before finally getting to their rooms. And then do the same on the way out.

Yes it’s important to let your kids walk but there’s a time and place, and allowing them to hold up a whole car park of parents who just want to get to and from work is infuriating. Just pick the kid up and carry them across the car park/through the doors.

Infuriating. I raise you the parents at our school who hold up the line of kids into the playground in the morning by allowing just-mobile 18 month olds to bumble about and loiter in the very narrow gate with seconds to go until gate closing time, instead of ensuring they are out of the way and not holding anyone up.

Absolutely clueless. This is not the time to allow them to practice their walking, people! There'll be plenty of other opportunities, use them and have a thought for others.

The parents who stand in the line with their kids waiting for the teacher. Fuck off out of the way.

The stopping and flashing thing when I’ve already pulled in infuriates me. Every single day on my road this happens!

It’s even more weird when I put my indicator on to pull on my drive and I have to stop to let a driver coming the opposite way come past and instead of just driving past while I wait for the road to be clear, they stop and flash me to pull on to my drive! Yeah ok then you just sit there and wait then while I manoeuvre on to my drive, idiot! Even more stupid is when they actually pull in and flash me to go, yet where they have pulled in to is straight across my drive where I actually need to go! Just carry on driving instead of stopping FFS! 🙄

Just reading this thread is stressing me out! Mostly it’s the frustration and impatience that’s making me stressed!

Yes! Standing behind someone at a small newsagent/grocery shop and I have one or two items to quickly buy and they end up choosing a multitude of different lottery tickets, for different days! Ahhh, drives me mad as it’s not even a necessary purchase and a total waste of money!!!!

And they can now be easily purchased online on the national lottery website these days too

I thought of this thread yesterday when I sat in a queue for a world heritage site (I was there for work, and in a rush). The level of pissing about from the eccentric older people in a bike/sidecar combo at the ticket booth sent my BP heavenwards.

i think it’s a type of entitlement and they find themselves hilarious.

Our local tip (sorry, recycling centre) only allows cars - no foot passengers or cyclists. And is appointment only. Which is absolutely ridiculous considering they are also waging a war against using cars.

They also don't let any vans in as they claim vans are commercial use. Which is flipping stupid if you've hired a van to move and want to drop some stuff off at the tip (sorry, recycling centre) as part of the move. So, if you have a van you have to drive to the other side of the borough to use the big tip (sorry, recycling centre). Eejits.

We use several tips, in different council areas. Most do not allow vans as they are commercial. Salford are, or were brilliant. You just showed the van hire contract with your council tax bill as proof of address and a short term rent and you were allowed one drop off. I was thinking of setting up a website where people could rate and comment on recycling centres. I would call it 'Tip Advisor'.

Yes I think it’s just a thread for people to vent and get it off their chest.

Also, people who walk out of supermarkets, ambling slower than seems humanly possible yet somehow taking up all the space so nobody can nip round them. Pausing when they get to the door, and then stopping dead just outside the door to check their receipt / light a cigarette / phone a friend.

People are just self absorbed with no spatial awareness.

OneLemonGuide · 26/06/2025 07:12

My pet hate is traffic lights… I realise we can’t all move simultaneously, but it should take a fraction of a second to start moving when the car in front does….but often it’s like:

car moves… wait a few seconds… next car moves….wait another few seconds etc. And you then you’re stuck when the lights turn back red, all because certain drivers have painfully slow reactions.

I used to be exactly like you OP. I'm not sure why I've changed but just reading your post reminded me how horrible it felt to be like that. I don't know what changed me but I'm relieved to not be like that any more. It's so stressful!

I felt this too.

Omg yes! Like why can’t they all just move when the traffic lights turn to green. Surely if the first person goes through them then everyone else behind them should be able to move and get through them too! Yet for some reason everyone is just sat there while the traffic lights are on green.

This thread had triggered me. There should be warning at the top of every page!😂I used to work in a city centre shopping centre, in the days when they were busy. The nearest Greggs was quite small and if more than half a dozen were in the queue the shop area was full. Weekdays, not too bad, but Saturdays whole families would queue up together not knowing what they wanted until it was their time to be served. Kids taking forever to choose the sausage roll they knew they wanted before they got anywhere near the shop. They probably all had the same thing every week, but still queued together clogging the whole shop. They could have all waited outside while one went in with the order. I didn't get a lunch hour, just nipped out when their was a lull in customers, so needed to be back ASAP as there was only one other person manning the shop. I hated Saturday lunchtimes.

I can't stand people that decide what they want when they get to the front of the queue. It's worse when they also ask their 4 year old what they want. I rarely give my kids a choice at all with food, never mind let them hold up a queue while making it!

It's Greggs FFS. Don't most people go in there with at least a vauge idea of what they want?

They do have cakes and biscuits that you might want to spend a little while looking at before deciding.
You can’t see them until you are nearly at the front or, if there is a group/family in front, then not until you get to the front.
I have never thought that only deciding what you want when you can see the choice was a problem.

If that's the only choice you have, then fine. That's different. Or if you kmow what you want but then ypu get to the front and they say theyve run out, so you have to rethink. Noone minds that. What people are pissed about is the people that takes ages deciding items that are always on the menu when they had the whole 5-10 minutes they were queuing to decide, then turn to every member of their family and ask them to decide and they go "uuuuummmmmm" before finally settling on the thing they had yesterday.

You see it in tea shops and cafes all the time, when the menu is on a massive board behind the counter for the entire queue to see. Use your queuing time to read and think.

I am not at all religious but living by this message makes life much less stressful.

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;
enjoying one moment at a time;
accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
taking, as He did, this sinful world
as it is, not as I would have it;
trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His Will;
that I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with Him
forever in the next.
Amen.
