People who start their Wordle with a vowely word like audio or alien are wrong

Okay, so you've found out that your word has vowels. Well done. That narrows it down to just about every word.

I think a much better strategy is to start with lots of consonants, and especially consonants that can be used in consonant blends (like R or L) or digraphs (like C or H).

Vowels are less useful than consonants.

My friend always starts Wordle with yesterday’s word to make it more challenging! Try it, makes it really tricky some days!

minipie · 23/06/2025 09:12

Well the same point could be made about finding out that your word has consonants - all words have consonants and vowels, it’s useful to know which ones, and it’s easier to eliminate vowels as there are few of them.

I’ve been alternating between Adieu and Stare and finding my results are the same either way. Honestly it’s far more about good vocabulary and a modicum of luck.

Mymanyellow · 23/06/2025 09:14

I start with space. My son does stare, dgs beast.
Pretty good odds between us I find.

didntlikeanyofthesuggestions · 23/06/2025 09:15

I always start wordle with a combination of five numbers and symbols. Some of my friends start with a five letter word. Oh well done, you found out this word has letters! Now what? You guess more letters? You find the right combination of letters? You solve wordle? Waste of time.

Mymanyellow · 23/06/2025 09:15

Oh and younger dgs only just started he’s 8. Fairy or canoe he can’t decide.

CrushingOnRubies · 23/06/2025 09:16

I start most days with Audio and I got it in the 2 the other week. And usually get it within 4 or 5. So on that basis yabu

greencartbluecart · 23/06/2025 09:16

It’s a game OP and people can make their own rules

It's much more serious than that.

OP you are correct.
Based on statistics there are certain optimum opening words slate/trace/crane and some others.

Bringinguptherear · 23/06/2025 09:18

Plus You always need include vowels on subsequent words.

so if you start with something like CRANE, and get nothing, you can play something like SPLIT or SPOUT on your next turn.

Though personally I always play the first word that comes into my head each day to keep it interesting.

(edit: said consonant when I meant vowels)

Theyreeatingthedogs · 23/06/2025 09:18

As there are fewer vowels than consonants, words are more likely to contain one or more of these than they are other letters. The most logical way is to use letters that have a low value in Scrabble as they are the most commonly used letters. You are being utterly unreasonable.

Nobody is wrong. Everyone is different

TeenLifeMum · 23/06/2025 09:19

I use agile mostly but because I’m childish I sometimes start with penis.

My 8 year old likes to play POOPY which I think we can all agree is not tactically optimal.

Well yes, that's a fair point. They've all got consonants too.
But... they've all got a combo of only 5 vowels. So knowing that my word has an E in it is much less helpful than knowing it has a P in it. I think. The P narrows it down much further.

I just type a random word that pops into my head. Much more fun.

ladygindiva · 23/06/2025 09:23

I start with alien and usually get it with 3 or 4 guesses. Yabu.

tammienorrie · 23/06/2025 09:24

I just pick a word with five letters which are all different. Realm today, on the past have used brown, likes, white, ports - whatever springs to mind. Then another word with 5 letters I haven’t used in the first.

MorrisonsPlatter · 23/06/2025 09:26

I use ARISE, if that produces complete failure I use CLOUT.

You’re definitely correct OP, mathematically speaking.

Also you want to minimise the number of times you play the same letters.

Finding the vowels then cycling through all the possible consonants isn't efficient.

Rutterkin · 23/06/2025 09:27

YABU.
my opening word is adieu

edited to add, just done today’s and got it in two so definitely BU.

DappledThings · 23/06/2025 09:31

I do Quordle first and start Wordle with one of those 4 words
