People who start their Wordle with a vowely word like audio or alien are wrong

Okay, so you've found out that your word has vowels. Well done. That narrows it down to just about every word.

I think a much better strategy is to start with lots of consonants, and especially consonants that can be used in consonant blends (like R or L) or digraphs (like C or H).

Vowels are less useful than consonants.

I always use the same starting word on the basis that one day that word will be the one. This has worked twice with audio and stare!

I now use tears.

SnowflakeSmasher86 · 23/06/2025 10:41

I use whatever random word pops into my head. Usually try words with common letters in, Bread, great, heart, etc but sometimes when I’m feeling silly I use penis.

DP is much more strategic. We both usually get it in 4. He’s a superbrain so I’m always chuffed if I get it in 3 and he doesn’t.

Getting it in 1 is just a lucky guess so 2 is the goal for me!

zoemum2006 · 23/06/2025 10:44

I do DAILY and then HOUSE. That covers all 5 vowels and some useful consonants. I usually get it in 3/4 goes.

My friend always starts Wordle with yesterday’s word to make it more challenging! Try it, makes it really tricky some days!

Ah, I thought that was only me…

Pickingmyselfup · 23/06/2025 10:47

I just start with something relevant to my day so today because I had a bacon sandwich I used bacon.

Today's word was tough, I gave up after 5 guesses and looked up the answer.

Zippedydodah · 23/06/2025 10:47

🤷🏼‍♀️
I use adieu or chaos and generally get it in 4, occasionally 3 and twice in one!

RareGoalsVerge · 23/06/2025 10:47

Having just one "starter" word is unwise. I start with either a pair or a triplet of words which between them have all the vowels and the most-common consonants. If I start with a triplet I get the word correct on my first actual guess (which is word 4) about 80% of the time and get it by word 5 close to 100% of the time. If I start with just two and am guessing by word 3, I only get it on word 3 about 25% of the time so my overall statistics are better with a starting triplet.

GinToBegin · 23/06/2025 10:49

I start with CHAOS, it’s been the word once and yes, I took a screen shot. PRINT is usually my second choice.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a solution that’s a plural or present verb of a tense, so if the S is right, I work on the assumption the word will end SS.

SnowflakeSmasher86 · 23/06/2025 10:49

Just got it in 4 as ever - Its more fun not getting it straight away to be fair! Gave me a good 8 minutes of entertainment.

Poynsettia · 23/06/2025 10:50

I e been using STONE after doing codewords and thinking they cropped up most

I always start with spine, grout, black. I almost always get it in 4.

I like consistency, rather than speed.

I always use a vowel filled word and it's rare for me not to get the word quickly. Although I must admit I hardly play it now, I got bored with it.

I think it’s more fun just to start with something a bit random as it forces you to think a bit more about what the best next word is. Using the same word every day gets a bit boring.

Wordle is nearly always solvable in 3-4 with a strong starter word so even with a weaker starting word it’s rare not to solve.

I get why statistically that might work, I just don’t want to waste a guess knowing that I’ve changed a correct letter to an incorrect one!

Could you not come up with a new second word that takes into account the correct letter?

So you don't play "hard" mode. Poor show and you'll never get a two.

I think that is a terrible strategy.
Most of the time I will have the word on my 3rd guess and you would not even have started guessing.

BestIsWest · 23/06/2025 11:18

I used to start with mouse but it got boring so now I start with the first word the enters my head. It’s much more interesting for me that way.

Unless you think there’s a good chance you’re making a correct guess, or you need to narrow down the placement of a yellow, there’s no advantage in repeating letters from a previous guess, it’s a waste of an opportunity to find/eliminate more letters.

Often the best strategy is to think of words it could be, or common letters you have yet to eliminate, and then choose a word based on maximising these letters, excluding any you have already guessed (even if you know it can’t be the answer).

Swiftie1878 · 23/06/2025 11:32

There are fewer vowels than consonants, and virtually every word has at least one.
I ALWAYS sort out the vowels first.

My starter is Aisle.

SheilaFentiman · 23/06/2025 11:32

I do a starter pair that covers the 4 most common vowels and 6 common consonants. I occasionally change my second word based on the outcome of the first, but often when I do, it ends up taking an additional guess than if I had just used my standard.

As with PPs, if none of the vowels have pinged, then I know it will be U/Y in my third guess.

Figcherry · 23/06/2025 11:43

I always start with Earth as t,r, and e are so commonly used and h narrows the choices down a bit.
I like quordle better, much more challenging.

AmyDuPlantier · 23/06/2025 11:44

I always start with heart. Dunno why but works for me.

boysmuminherts · 23/06/2025 11:50

Wordle 1,465 4/6

🟨🟨⬛⬛⬛
⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛
⬛🟨🟨⬛🟨
🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩

I'm with @BestIsWest
But I have 2 starting words and can then usually get it in 3/4/5
Seems to be a decent strategy for me
Don't understand the PP who gave up and looked up the answer.
Both my starting words have 5 different letters in them, 2 vowels each.

Giggorata · 23/06/2025 11:52

I generally start with BEAUS, followed by GROIN, which gets me the vowels, or tells me whether there will be a Y.
Then I can follow on with some of the more common consonants, or look at combinations, if there are few vowels.
