Hmmm ok let me bite…
I’m similar age and education to Emily, similar family background.
In my 20s I dated someone significantly older and quite daft, but famous from the era when I was a young teen. Honestly it just felt incredible that this hot famous person was interested in me, and it was seductive to get to know his inner world, having people stop us for a chat when you go out etc. If you’re the ‘clever girl’ from a ‘normal’ background it can be something you just fall into, something different, an experience. Especially if you’re under 30 you’ll see past their peculiarities the more you fall, that unusual life that comes with notoriety can be tempting if you’re a certain kind of personality, eg ‘the nice boy from the next town’ would bore you. Then the next thing you know you’re barefoot and pregnant 🤣
Thankfully it didn’t happen to me! My ex has done some batshit things over the years and whenever I see something, I go ‘thank god it’s not my circus to deal with’!
However my last boyfriend was also quite daft. Just not intellectual and a bit incompetent at life, but gorgeous (and crucially, a nice person, despite saying/ doing some silly things).
I’ve come to the conclusion that I just find that lost puppy personality attractive. I don’t need anyone to pay half the bills or generally be the adult, so I like the idea of going on an adventure with someone hot that adores me and makes my life interesting. I don’t always want to compete in intelligence and achievements with someone, so it quite suits me if someone adores me and tells me they think I’m so smart when I’ve simply worked their tax rate out. It’s easy, you can just switch off and feel at peace, their very different inner workings fascinate you - until they become annoying.
I wouldn’t be fully surprised if she’s very much in charge at home.
I’d probably dump them if they started doing silly things on tv though… Mind you, as a woman and mother you probably have quite a high ‘he’s an idiot but he’s my idiot’ tolerance. And as a high achiever you don’t quit things, do you?
