I've increasingly noticed that people are getting scruffier and scruffier in how they dress.

Some of the secretaries where I work come in, In trainers, band t shirts, coloured hair, loose fitting, cheap tops. I wouldn't do the garden in some of the outfits I see. They aren't typically patient facing but on occasion are. I think it really lacks professionalism to turn up scruffy to work.

Same for people out for an evening meal in jogging bottoms.

On Saturday we had sports day at school and every woman was in a nice dress and men in chinos / short chinos and shirts. Children all in proper PE uniform. It was so refreshing to see.

That’s the problem. Just because you “don’t have to” doesn’t mean you have to look mismatched like you don’t know how to dress yourself.

My body is covered up in a way I am happy with. What other people think does not matter. It is more important that someone is comfortable in what they are wearing than someone who finds them an "eyesore". Look at something else.

Love to know how that looks like a l
slipper 😬 or did you think I meant the cheap plastic ones

They look like slippers imo. And I’ve never known anyone wear plastic slippers.

These are something I’d wear indoors, not outside

12doublerolls · 23/06/2025 22:12

PhantomOTheParadise · 23/06/2025 22:10

See, I think that is ugly, and slipper like. Most slippers aren’t plastic, are they? Why can’t you understand that style is subjective and we all like different things?

Ok we all have an opinion. But don’t cry when someone judges your appearance.

Kendodd · 23/06/2025 22:13

I also got married in trainers, brand new white ones to go with my dress Grin

I won’t because I understand we all like different things, and that’s okay.

You’re the one who seems to think everyone should dress rigidly in the way you find acceptable, ignoring the fact that everyone’s idea of stylish and acceptable is not the same.

I think people should wear whatever they like and as long as it’s clean, and free from holes, etc., it’s not scruffy.

PractisingMyTelekenipsis · 23/06/2025 22:11

I agree ! And £129? Really? Anyone paying that has been had! What a rip off. In my opinion only of course!

I agree a complete rip off. But I was just showing the style because when you say slider it could also mean a pair of Nike rubber ones lol

No, that looks like a bit of cardboard with hessian attached. And why are they called sliders? Is it because they keep sliding off your feet when you walk? How are these even safe for outdoors or on stairs?

I get complimented on my appearance all the time. Just gone back from holiday and every day a stranger asked me about my dresses and where I got them.

I have good hair that is coloured regularly, I wear make up and dress up on a night out and yet I manage to hold down a senior role at a very highly respected company wears bc leggings and trainers to the office - oh and pyjamas when I’m WFH.

And I’ve still never worn sliders or anything had hideous white tipped nails (my fingers and toes are both painted and match btw)

So not adhering to your outdated stereotypes doesn’t actually equal - non feminine or mismatched appearance

No one should be approaching others and telling them they look shit. Keep those thoughts in your head.

Kendodd · 23/06/2025 22:20

I increasingly see news readers and TV presenters in trainers as well. It's sensible footwear imo.

DuesToTheDirt · 23/06/2025 22:22

12doublerolls · 23/06/2025 21:51

its Just my opinion. If you’re a woman why would you not want to be feminine? And I don’t mean it to attract men I mean for yourself. Wear something that actually fits and shows the shape of your body.

I'm not a feminine sort of person. I wear clothes that fit my body, but they are female clothes, not feminine clothes - there's a difference.

I love trainers. I’ve got about 50 pairs in various colours to match every outfit.

And my feet feel so much better after a night out dancing than they used to in shoes

Edited

Not ridgid at all. I don’t wear pencil skirts and heals. I like colour and looking like a woman. I’m not trying to cover myself in oversized clothes because to
me that is not flattering. Anyway I was always told by my granny it’s better to overdress than underdress.

I didn’t come up with the name of them 🤷🏻‍♀️ and no they don’t slide of my feet

But other people might not want to, or care about, showing off their figure. They might prefer the look or feel of baggy clothes. You don’t seem to be able to comprehend that. Neither your way of dressing or anyone else’s is right or wrong, it’s just personal preference.

Can you run in them? Get away from someone in a rush?

12doublerolls · 23/06/2025 22:28

You’re right, but I’ll still secretly judge the scruffs.

Nah I’d do that barefoot.

XenoBitch · 23/06/2025 22:30

Sliders look terrible to me. Like someone put them on to put the bins out, then went out properly and forgot to put proper footwear on. Don't get me started on the trend for wearing them with white socks... but if the people wearing them like them, then who gives a shit.

DoctorRoseReturns · 23/06/2025 22:33

Same for weddings, church etc dress for then occasion and have respect for the event.

Church depends on your denomination. Many are very much "come as you are" because they should be welcoming places for all

I know vicars with dreads, vicars who wear sandals every day, vicars who wear leggings, vicars who wear those bohemian type skirts with elephant and such patterns, vicars with dyed hair, vicars with tattoos...

You'd be surprised

Yes, sorry, in my church you can't go with your tits out or in joggers it shows disrespect but I appreciate different congregations have different rules mine was a generic. I don't want to trip on particularities the ideea is respect the place and the event (this doesen't mean dress and heels you can look very respectfull in trousers) and the world is your oyster. I actually love woman dressing maculine, it screams power, no nonsense and strength. Wishh I could pull it off, good for them (picking on OP's point of feminity).

Why would anyone "judge" her appearance?

Missanimosity · 23/06/2025 22:44

Those sliders are dreadfull, sorry. Also they look so uncomfortable due to the flat, thin sole and very dangerous, if you are caught in rain is a balancing act to not slip on the sole. Not talking about running and driving. They look like what you would wear indoors.
