To wonder if it’s rude to ask how old someone is?

DD(4) is constantly asking people how old they are. I’ve been told it’s rude and to stop her, it hadn’t really occurred to me it was rude but wondering if it actually is.

Yes it's rude.

I think it’s ok when 4 year old’s do it but not generally. That said I wish I had nipped it in the bud as my son still asks people and then when they tell him anything over 50 says “wow that’s so old”

& the reply

'Yes I know. When I was a little girl I had a pet dinosaur!'

When kids ask me how old I am, I ask them to take a guess before the big reveal. Even though I’m early 30’s, a child screaming an absurd number, like “100” never gets old. Does wonders for my confidence 🤣

Goodness, it’s a kid. I used to ask that question when I was little. I don’t go around asking it now and I don’t remember having ‘the talk’ with my parents to stop me. Children are curious, there’s no agenda or malice intended. Doesn’t bother me in the slightest.
