Peri high sex drive - how long did yours last?

Following from the recent thread asking when your perimenopause symptoms started and when they hit their peak...

For the last year or so, I've been driven crazy with an insanely high libido. I'm 41.

Don't get me wrong, it's a lot of fun, but I'm genuinely concerned I'm going to either lose my job or get arrested at this point!

For others who experienced this when you either hit peri or hit your early 40s, how long did it last? Or did it never end, and if so, how old are you now?

I kind of want it to last forever, but would also like a break from feeling quite so insatiably horny! 🫠

A good four to five years

rainbowsandraspberrygin · 18/06/2025 20:47

Why would you get arrested??

Plantladylover · 18/06/2025 20:50

god I'm so envious. I had a ridiculously high sex drive from 15-35. I thought it was normal, that everyone was like that.

I went through menopause at 38 and have had no libido since. Now I understand how some women do feel when they are just not interested in sex. never understood it before.

My advice if enjoy it. I'm bloody envious 😀

Did it go back to 'normal' after (like it was in your 30s) or did it drop off a cliff?

Oh sorry to hear that. It's just the absolute luck of the draw isn't it. Bloody hormones 😒

I'm joking about that bit, of course, although I feel the most open minded and open to trying new things I've been in my life.

Why would either of those things happen? Are you randomly shagging people at work or pestering strangers for sex?

HRTQueen · 18/06/2025 20:58

I think about 18 months and developed ridiculous crushes

then dropped right off

and I’m fine with that which I never thought I would be

thank you. it's just so bizarre. how can someone go from wanting to have sex all the time to never at all. It really has been eye opening for me that we really are at the mercy of our hormones. On a positive note my husband is 20 years older than me and not interested either. but it must be awful for a younger couple if their drives are mismatched

on a light hearted note proper loving both of those ideas :)

About 4 months which is so depressing. Im only 39. My husband got a vasectomy and I was so excited about making the most of it. By the time he had the all clear the sex drive was gone. I have booked an appointment for HRT… hoping it comes back. Made life a lot more exciting

Yes I can relate to the ridiculous crushes bit! I can watch a whole tv series without knowing what on earth it's about, just to drool over the hot male protagonist 🤦🏼‍♀️

Oh, damn that timing! I hope the hrt works for you. I've been taking it for a month currently. I recognise that I've developed several peri symptoms, and wanted to get on it fairly quickly.

This is really sensible. I stupidly thought I should be holding out till it got really bad. Was told by a few people in the last couple of weeks that it’s the opposite. I should have gone straight on it last summer when it had started. GP appointment isn’t for a month 🙄 good luck and enjoy this time!

Yes the age gap sounds ideal for your circumstances.

I had some crazy crushes a few years ago, when I was about 42. I’m 45 now and my libido has dropped off a cliff! I’m on HRT for the rages but I still don’t feel much desire. But I also have 3 young kids and I’m exhausted so maybe that plays into it.

Are you going to put cuffs on me Officer?

12purplepencils · 18/06/2025 21:13

I had this from about 39. Now at 44 it's tailed off a bit in the last year, which I'm a bit sad about. Still got a libido but not every day and not as strong as before. However it's also coincided with mounjaro and weigh loss so could be the drug and/or weight related hormonal changes. Hard to know

dollyblue01 · 18/06/2025 21:14

I’m 40 and possibly hitting the peri stage as I constantly could have sex, my Dp is 50 and his sex drive is dwindling 🙄 not great at all, I feel like a sex pest sometimes.

There's so much contradictory information out there. Some say get on it early if you aren't in any risk category, and others say avoid it unless your symptoms are unbearable - and everything in between. I actually wanted it the most to see if it would help me sleep a bit better. So far, I'd say it's not, but I know you need to give it 3 months to see any effects. I've not had any difficulty with it though,so will definitely stick with it.
Good luck with your appointment.

Yes peri and 3 young kids sounds like the perfect storm!
