I thought there were fine plans to bin this nonsense

So sick of having to plan around it and buy overpriced extra stuff I don't need

@samarrange Are you Douglas from Cabin Pressure?!

Gloriously funny series!

It’s really not that hard to plan around.

It is difficult when you're going away for 3 months with just hand luggage 😃

Feelingleftoutagain · 18/06/2025 18:32

To get round it we did a click and collect at boots after bag check

Fragmentedbrain · 18/06/2025 16:33

It requires different toothpaste, different face cleanser, different moisturiser, different serums, different SUN protection, I can't take a bottle of sparkling water I have to pay £3 for one instead. Don't be a mule just because you can, yknow.

why not buy when your at the destination ?

Swirlythingy2025 · 18/06/2025 18:35

Fragmentedbrain · 18/06/2025 17:40

Lol at the idea it's this strategic

it depends on how upto date the equipment is that they are using as to the levels of security needed

Rewis · 18/06/2025 18:35

I use a 1.2dl bag. Airport staff doesn't see the difference and you get 2dl extra space. It is still a faff to make sure you have the little containers. Also, I'd like to sometimes buy a little jar of something from the place I'm visiting. Or there is a really cool local wine id like to bring home, but nope. I'm not gonna check a bag unless absolutely necessary.

I also hate that you can no longer bring a normal cabin bag without paying extra. Not to brag, but I've become a bit of an expert in packing my backpack.

Liondoesntsleepatnight · 18/06/2025 18:36

Gatwick and Heathrow have already done away with this

It is wasteful cause you're not gonna use all of it. Also the products will be different. And having to go put a buy stuff like this is also annoying.

YourGreenPoster · 18/06/2025 18:38

When you buy checked luggage

YourGreenPoster · 18/06/2025 18:38

Gatwick and Heathrow have already done away with this

And return airports haven't

I’d be more enraged by terrorists blowing up the plain than following a annoying but essential safety rule.

Agreed. Honestly this thread is so shallow.

There is still a 100ml restriction. You just don't have to take it out anymore and no need for it to be in a clear plastic bag.

summerscomingsoon · 18/06/2025 18:41

Sidebeforeself · 18/06/2025 18:26

But not all airports have those scanners. Rather than being rude perhaps read the thread?

I've read it fully thanks :)

I travel most months and use different airports with and without the new scanners. I said it is easier with the new scanners. But it isn't a big deal without them. Just plan. It's just another thing like remembering your passport or to check in. It isn't a big deal. If you CBA to deal with it then don't fly. your choice.

sweetpickle2 · 18/06/2025 18:41

Some airports (eg London City) don't have this rule, but unless the place you're flying to also doesn't have it or you're emigrating it's not much use.

SoScarletItWas · 18/06/2025 18:43

Mokel · 18/06/2025 17:49

Probably wasn’t in the clear bag and didn’t fit

It wasn’t in the clear bag, correct, because I didn’t know then that it was classed as a liquid. It was in my tote bag inside my makeup bag with the rest of my (dry) makeup. The detector sent it down the Naughty Track and the security guy went through my bag and discovered my contraband. I tried to let him put it in my little liquids bag (yes there was room) and he refused 🤷🏼‍♀️

Fragmentedbrain · 18/06/2025 16:34

What's weird is in my airport you don't need the fiddly little bag and it goes through the fancy scanner but it's still max 100ml. Last time I saw them take a lovely snow globe off a tourist just because it was slightly over. Enraging.

It's not enraging. It's to prevent another 911. Can you begin to imagine it happening again?

PrincessofWells · 18/06/2025 18:29

It is difficult when you're going away for 3 months with just hand luggage 😃

You were wanted to travel with three months' worth of all your toiletries? In hand luggage?

Shops may be available in other countries.

somethinggoodisgonnahappen · 18/06/2025 18:44

I totally agree this is a pain in the arse and adds complete faff to the airport process. Half the time they say leave it in the bag, half the time you have to get it out, which means you can't even prepare they always seem to say the opposite to what you've done.

Denimrules · 18/06/2025 18:45

Flew from Heathrow and London City recently and they had 3D scanners so I thought it had stopped

ConnieHeart · 18/06/2025 18:49

MascaraGirl · 18/06/2025 16:46

I have been in/out of Heathrow in the last few weeks, you no longer need to unpack your hand luggage into gray plastic trays but I believe the 100 ml,imit is still in force

Same in Bristol & Manchester. Worth Googling in advance

99point6 · 18/06/2025 18:49

It is back to 100ml at LCY.
https://www.londoncityairport.com/at-the-airport/need-to-know/security-baggage link explains why

It is contact lens solution that I can't decant.

Pandagirl10 · 18/06/2025 18:51

MadisonAvenue · 18/06/2025 16:37

Wasn’t it said that there was a technical issue with the scanners which needed sorting?
We flew out of Heathrow in March and had to remove everything from bags, electricals and plastic bag of liquids. However on the return from LA I forgot to remove my bag of liquids, my bag was pulled aside for a check but it was because of the large quantity of Peanut Butter M&Ms that I was bringing back. The packets were swabbed and my bag of liquids was ignored.

I had a similar situation - I was bringing back a tub of vanilla coffee mate powder (which I had already started). On the scan it showed up as suspicious powder and they took my passport, boarding pass and called armed staff! Of course they looked closer, took the lid off and a spray of white power came out!
It took quite a while to get through security! Lol!

TruthOrAlethiometer · 18/06/2025 16:29

It’s really not that hard to plan around.

Well, apart from anything else, it means you can’t bring home any liquid souvenirs if you’re travelling with hand luggage only or are out of space in your checked luggage.

That aside, there are loads of little things you need to do when flying that individually aren’t hard to plan around but collectively are an utter pain in the arse. Not having to take every electronic item out of the bag for scanning has been a very welcome development. This one next, please.

ConnieHeart · 18/06/2025 19:00

I always hunt out the bottle refills after security to save buying expensive and wasteful bottles of water. They were charging about £4 in an airport in Turkey for a tiny bottle of water

KeepDancing1 · 18/06/2025 19:03

TruthOrAlethiometer · 18/06/2025 16:29

It’s really not that hard to plan around.

It’s really inconvenient if you’re flying with only hand luggage and need to carry medication. I last flew from Bristol Airport a year ago, and they were still allowing only one small plastic bag for all medication and toiletries!
