Yes I weighed yesterday in Boots. I’ve finally gone up to 14 Stone.

Im doing something about it - cutting calories and last night went out for a gentle run

OP posts:
Rednotdead · 17/06/2025 17:56

Good on you and good luck OP, I have to admit that I threw in the towel and went down the Mounjaro route.

eqpi4t2hbsnktd · 17/06/2025 18:05

What is the ideal weight at 5ft?

knor · 17/06/2025 18:05

I’m also quite short OP (5’1) and I sadly feel I have to eat a lot less to lose weight than average height women.

I’ve been every size in my life (very small at 7 1/2 stone and my biggest was just after giving birth.)

calorie counting is great (and does work) but also focus on whole foods in there. I think health is very important so I don’t see the point of eating UPF that add up to your calories (okay occasionally but not always.)

id also recommend getting your steps in, great way to burn cals and also good for your mental health.

you can do this OP. I’m also trying to lose some weight so will hopefully take my own advice :D

Fast 800 is great for quick weight loss ive found

I started in Jan at 98kg (5ft4). I’m currently 72kg. Have got this far with Fast800. Someone I haven’t seen for a year genuinely walked past me and had to retrace their steps to say hi, because they didn’t recognise me a few weeks ago.
Still have ~15kg to go, but am happy to lose it slower now I’m a size 12/14 and feel more comfortable in my skin.
(For even more perspective last April I was 110kg). Take the leap now!! Next year you will thank you for it!

Thank you - this means a lot ❤️

Smaller dishes and no food after 6pm helps us.

Jazzyyyy · 17/06/2025 15:08

That’s amazing, would you sharing how tall you are and how long it took for the weight to come?

I love dancing and walking me I usually only get 6,000 steps in for every hour danced or walked though. I should still do it more!

It took me 11 months in 2022, I'm 5 feet 2, in my 50's then. I'm starting faster walks again, as I've put some of it back on.

Alexaremovethenotifications · 17/06/2025 18:24

Im 5.2 and got to 12.7. Nothing I did worked. All the signs of insulin resistance. Like a previous poster said - I threw in the towel and took Mounjaro. Game changer. I feel so much better in myself and I’m not even in the healthy range yet (2 stone lighter). I’m not convinced I want to drop what they recommend (down to 8.13) as I think it will age me. But I’m keeping at it until I’m at least in the comfortable range of good BMI.

Madsciencecovid2020 · 17/06/2025 18:29

I am 5ft 1 and just over 12 st. I have wobbly bits and do exercise and eat healthily. I am around a size 14 / 16 but if I went down to recommended weight range I would be physically
ill. The lowest I could ever go down to is 9.5 st to still be healthy.
I would try using the online walking things so that you don't stress joints etc. E.g walk at home or taichiwithmom. You can access free via YouTube.
I love soups and healthy veg and eat fermented foods etc Alongside home cooked meals. I refuse to bust my gut to lose excess weight as all health markers are within ranges apart from bmi.
Take your time to lose the weight be realistic and don't resort to fads and injections. Do it on your terms and in a safe manageable way. I found part of my issue has been high cortisol and stress ( job, 4 x neurodivergent kids, kid with stage 4 cancer, muppet husband/ partner - now disposed off!!) . I have chosen to not use conventional medicine and use a herbalist and bach remedies. Also have a grounding mat and purestep barefoot shoes and magnetic insoles. They have helped reduce stress and cortisol in a natural way and I feel fabulous.IYes people think they re hocus pocus but I haven't met a therapist or any of my friends who doesn't use them all!!
I am losing weight slowly and people have commented on how great I look. The biggest difference was the before and after getting rid of husband photos a year apart!! 🤣🤣

Find out what works for you and your lifestyle and routines. I find exercise at 5 am is best for me before kids get up and I get 15 mins to also sit down and have a cup of tea!!
Good luck and true to you

RosyDaysAhead · 17/06/2025 18:40

I was 18st 3lbs in January, measuring just 5’2”. A combinations of poor mental health and lack of exercise as well as medication that caused weight gain. I started MJ in Feb, and joined a gym. I hired a personal trainer too. I’ve not hugely dropped calories, but and definitely in a small calorie deficit now. I also left out the alcohol, in fact today I’m having my first glass of wine in 5 months. It’s not been easy to turn my life around. But I have so far dropped 3 stones and I’m still losing. I feel so much healthier. I’m eating better. It just needed me to be in the right place to start. It’s not easy. Good luck

GiveDogBone · 17/06/2025 18:48

Firstly, best of luck, this will be difficult and challenging - at times you will go backwards, it can’t be helped, but stick with it.

You certainly need to count your calories, there are a number of free apps you can use for this. Scan barcodes, weigh out your portions, figure out where you are consuming a lot of calories on things that don’t really matter to you and you can make substitutions for, etc.

Yet another weight shaming thread!

Iloveyoubut · 17/06/2025 19:14

Agix · 17/06/2025 09:44

At our height, baby steps arnt going to cut it. Your calorie burn is going to be a lot lower than you think, and lower than what calorie calculators say online.

You'll find out for yourself soon enough though. Might want to consider going to a GP for help if you start getting frustrated.

How do you know what Op thinks her calorie burn will be? That’s totally condescending. Maybe she knows very well what her calorie burn is! You’re not the only person in the world who ‘knows things’

restingbitchface30 · 17/06/2025 19:27

I was almost 18 stone at 5ft 8. I’m now just under 15 but I am struggling to stick to the diet I’ve been doing since Jan. I just want to eat everything I shouldn’t!

Crikeyalmighty · 17/06/2025 19:28

@Madsciencecovid2020 I do agree with you about some of the ‘ideal’ weights - I have been that weight before and I didn’t actually look that well or healthy , a stone more and I looked great , and yet on paper ‘overweight’ - my H thought I looked better a stone up too

BooneyBeautiful · 17/06/2025 19:30

Idontknowhatnametochoose · 17/06/2025 09:52

No my stomach has been upset but basically I have no desire to eat. Stopped them on Saturday but appetite has yet to return. Only have a mild ear infection.

I had a faecal impaction with overflow last year. Quite terrifying at first as I didn't know what was happening! Anyway, that massively reduces your appetite and I lost a stone in two weeks. I wouldn't recommend it though.

Thefsm · 17/06/2025 19:34

I’m in America and one of the reasons I haven’t visited the uk in over a decade is knowi g that my weight would attract comments and stares. I have struggled with thyroid issues and auto immune disorder and even though I wasn’t particularly eating too many calories, I was very sedentary so I gained about a stone a year. My worst point I was 302lbs (5ft 7”). I asked to be put on Zepbound which is like wygovia and it gave me the spur I needed to work on my health. I started swimming 50 lengths of the competition pool four times a week and recording all I ate for a few months. I started in February and so far I’ve lost 42lbs. I can’t explain how much healthier I feel. My knees no longer hurt and I am gaining self confidence back.

it’s not a miracle drug. The side effects are brutal. Like morning sickness combined with the worst indigestion and gut pains ever at times. But for me it is a life saver. Worth looking in to.

that sound hellish. Is the idea that they will ease up? Or is it permanent symptoms that you have to learn to live with? @Thefsm

I agree. Sod that for a game of soldiers. No way in hell would I use zepbound. Just googled it, and the side effects are horrific. 😱

Disjunkie357 · 17/06/2025 20:02

Just wanted to say good luck and it is totally possible to get back to a healthy weight. I’m only 4ft 10 and my starting weight was 14 stone. I now weigh 7 and a half stone and it took me over 3 years to lose via counting calories.

Don’t aim for perfection. I had so many failed cycles of losing then gaining weight when I would try to be ‘strict’ with my diet, leading to binges of food I’d classed as off limits. It’s true when people say it’s not a diet, it’s a lifestyle change but that takes time to achieve.

for me allowing myself meals out I wanted (rather than just selecting the lowest calorie dish), cake occasionally etc allowed me to balance losing weight and not have it feel like a short term restriction. I didn’t start exercising until I’d lost 4 stone but now it’s a key part of my life and I’m currently training for a half marathon.

Nah I don’t take any WLI but it’s not as high as 50. I think it’s something like if your BMI is obese over 30 or over 27 and you have a a weight-related health condition such as high cholesterol, high blood pressure, pre-diabetes or heart problems you’ll be eligible.

My starting BMI was around 32 but I’d never been keen on using them so I didn’t go for it.

Edited

You can actually look up the integrated care body's policy in each area. My BMI was 39.5 with associated health issues, I wasn't eligible. I've bought slimming tablets instead.

Idontcareboutthestateofmyhair · 17/06/2025 20:57

Hey, good for you for deciding enough is enough. I'm 5ft and in perimenopause, have never struggled with my weight really before this but I reached my maximum tolerance a few months ago. It's shit being small with weight gain. The only thing that works for me is fasting. I have IBS and a hiatal hernia so have to watch the bloaty foods. Fasting means I can eat gluten free pasta meals and potatoes and meat etc without annoying my tummy with too many intolerant foods (which I also love but can't eat!) and I usually can fill myself with these foods and healthy snacks (plus the occasional pack of ringos!) black tea, Green tea and water for fluids but I've still had the occasional glass of wine and even a burger or slice of pizza. I've lost 10lbs in 2 months. Fasting has really worked for me but I know it's not for everyone. Maybe help you to fast softly? Good luck ❤️

Crikeyalmighty · 17/06/2025 20:59

@Zov not everyone gets these but unfortunately I felt exactly the same that poster on mounjaro and at the lowest dose -chronic heartburn and like a cross between morning sickness and a bad hangover for 3 days a week -

Mackerelfillets · 17/06/2025 21:48

I got to the dizzy heights of 17 stone (5' 6"). I have very slowly, since January 23, lost 3 stone, 2 more to go. I don't really want to lose it quickly. I've learned quick loss usually means quick gain. I have an underactive thyroid, I'm menopausal and I don't have a gall bladder. Im using mounjaro privately and its working for me. I have been slim and I have been fat. Bottom line life is better slim....full stop....and I want that again...and I want to live longer and be healthy. If you want it enough you can get there but not by fasting, total food replacement, veg soup diet, slim fast, WW or slimming world etc. Tried all those, the weight goes back on. It's slow and steady changes that maintain a regular eating pattern that doesn't feel restrictive but gives results. Im confident that I'll get there and will be able to maintain it. Good luck!!

IlovetoKnitandRead · 17/06/2025 21:59

5ft nothing here and I was 15 st 6. Currently 13st 11, using Fast 800 recipes books. The food is amazing.

Noodledog · 17/06/2025 22:15

I checked your BMI and you'll be eligible to get Mounjaro on the NHS. I don't understand why people would prefer to go down the normally hopeless route of calorie counting if they had an alternative that would actually work.
