Yes I weighed yesterday in Boots. I’ve finally gone up to 14 Stone.

Im doing something about it - cutting calories and last night went out for a gentle run

Biggest game changer for me has been a mindset change. I aim for 1/2 - 1lb a week. Dropping my attitude of a need a dress size a month has been the biggest change. I’ve averaged 1.5lbs a week since changing my all or nothing attitude.

exercise daily whether that’s been a walk or a gym session, I move everyday.

calorie counting and prioritising fibre and protein.

Dramatic · 17/06/2025 10:55

I'm a couple of inches taller than you and just under 14 stone, it's the biggest I've ever been and I'm miserable. I started the 4:3 fasting diet about 3 weeks ago and have lost 6lb so it's a start I suppose. Good luck op

RowsOfFlowers · 17/06/2025 10:58

I’m 5”3 and 11 stone. I’ve just been diagnosed with PCOS & Hashimoto which makes it difficult to lose weight. Best of luck. Cutting calories, more movement, good sleep and stress reduction is my approach.

BlotAnExpert · 17/06/2025 10:59

You can do this 🙌🏼 I had a similar realisation this year and doing what I can to change it.

Simply counting Calories is bullshit though, you can cut right back but it's not sustainable and most people put it back on. You are better off losing slowly by eating nourishing food, understanding why you eat what you do (emotional eating etc...) and increasing movement gradually. I found Zoe really helpful for this, I actually ate more fat but lost a lot of weight. Nothing is off the table but you learn about different foods and what effect they have on you so you end up not wanting to eat it anyway. Their podcasts are a good resource. I've also heard good things about Noom but I found their sign up system crap so never got past that. If I was starting again I'd probably go and see a decent holistic nutritionist, probably cheaper overall and better support.

Good luck!

I agree with this 💯

TheArtfulNavyDreamer · 17/06/2025 11:01

It sucks being 5’. I don’t lose weight if I eat more than 1200 calories and now I’m getting closer to goal it’s faltering. I need to up exercise now I think to stick in a calorie deficit

RowsOfFlowers · 17/06/2025 11:01

I follow a nutritionist online - Jessica Shand - she has an excellent book and it’s all about healthy, nourishing and wholesome meals

Smugzebra · 17/06/2025 11:01

I feel your pain.
I'm a lot taller than you but weigh a stone heavier. It's the most I've ever been in my life. Feel uncomfortable in most clothes now and living in baggy, boring clothes. Never feel nice.
Tried Fast 800 and slimming world. Both worked (fast 800 is amazing... Could lose a stone in 2 weeks!) but ultimately just get bored and will give up. I don't think I could do fast 800 again because there were so few meals I enjoyed on it I got really fed up of having those same few.

Can't afford mounjaro.. (can anyone find it less than £150 every 4 weeks??) To those taking it via GP... Do you just have to be overweight to take it or do you have to have an obesity related health problem? I was under the understanding you had to have diabetes/high BP etc to qualify??

Slimming world is also expensive and gets very boring. There are only so many Muller lights and curly wurlys I can handle!!

I think the key is something sustainable and slow. Although this is hard because you dont see instant results to keep you motivated, it's most likely to be maintanable.

I'm wondering if intermittent fasting may be the answer?

Bickybics · 17/06/2025 11:07

Same. It was lockdown that did it for me. If I am in routine I am fine, lockdown threw everything out and I’ve never recovered.
Im annoyed as in 2019 I said I wasn’t going to be fat again, and yet here I am. I loved being skinny as well. Urgh.

Im calorie counting and starting to increase the activity. I do not want to take weight loss injections though.

AllTheChaos · 17/06/2025 11:15

Good luck! You can do it. I was nearly 13 stone at a similar height. Lost it all over the past few years x

CautiousLurker01 · 17/06/2025 11:16

Good luck on your journey. There’s a moment, isn’t there, where you realise you can’t go on like this? I thought getting to 14 st, then 15 st, then 16 would do it. I was rapidly approaching 17st (am 5ft5, if I stand up tall) before I had that moment. It was realising I would be a fat old lady when I graduate next year, the constant niggle of back pain and lack of energy, and realising I was nearly the age my mum was when she died in her 50’s but that I still had teens at home that need me, before it hit. In an avalanche of realisation.

I did use Ozempic/mounjaro, but it was still a painfully slow journey to lose 6.5st. Have kept it off for a year now and honestly I will never go back. My rising self esteem, increased confidence going outside (think I was borderline agoraphobic), not having thigh rub in this weather, and the lack of aches and pains have been liberating.

Hang in there and use whatever method works for you.

Feb2025start · 17/06/2025 11:22

Sorry haven't read all the posts. But could you afford or would you want to try Mounjaro? I was 13 stone when I started. Two months in I was under 10 stone for the first time since I was 16. I mean, I did the work alongside it, yoga and gym etc but it was all pretty easy. I've stopped now as the higher doses made me exhausted and I'm happy with my weight (9.5 stone) but I'm still the slimmest I've been since being a teen!

Nottsandcrosses · 17/06/2025 11:27

OP dont go in hard.

Find out your maintenance calories and go from there dropping by 100 and then when weight loss slows then drop by another 100 and so on.

So for example, if your maintenance is 1900 a day calories then drop to 1800 and see how that goes for a month, if your loosing every week then perfect stick with that.
When weightloss slows then drop the calories again to 1700 and so on.

The aim is to start high enough for weight loss so that you ave somewhere to go from there, you want it to be a sustainable process.

I've been doing this for a year and lost 40 lbs and now a slim size 10 and a very healthy weight.

I understand the attraction of quick weight loss but you want this to be more of a lifestyle change.

Edited to add, try and hit 130 grams of protein a day.

Have a look at monj.co.uk - it lists the prices for every provider in the UK (all gdhp registered) plus discounts. Lots of people move to a new provider every month as they have introductory discounts. I was only on it for three months (well, two really as the third one gave me crappy side effects so I ditched it after a week) but never paid more than £100. Still expensive I know but was definitely worth it for me! I don't think you can get it via a GP in the UK (except for people participating in a small trial)

Also, although the pens are stated to be four weekly doses there's actually five in there. People use insulin needles to extract the last one. I think 20 quid a week to lose over a stone a month is a bargain!

Friendofdennis · 17/06/2025 11:45

Good luck with everything . I lost 5 stone and am now 12 stone at 5 feet 9 so just within the normal range. ( this actually happened as a result of ill health so not a good way to lose weight ) . But I wanted to let people know that it is best to try to separate weight and self esteem ( not easily done I know ) because this weekend a man hurled an insult at me calling me a fat tw*t over a parking incident. Even though I am no longer overweight it hurt deeply and was obviously designed to be cruel to a woman.

Hyperbowl · 17/06/2025 11:45

After suffering for years with disordered eating and going through periods of gaining and losing weight but never being able to keep it off I finally about two months ago started my journey to losing weight in a healthy way.

This time I’ve started from 12st 10 which is my heaviest and I’m currently at 12st 1. I am already feeling the benefits health-wise being much less tired and aching a lot less too. I’m almost 5ft 3 and I would like to be around 9.5 st but would like to do so without becoming obsessed (like I usually do) and it taking over my life. I think the important thing is that it’s not about how quickly you lose it, it’s about being healthy and losing it in the right way in order to realistically be able to keep it off. The fact that you’ve starting taking that giant leap is amazing! I don’t have any useful advice, I just wanted to post in solidarity and say a huge well done because it can be such a mammoth task mentally to get started.

It’s easy to get downhearted by the fact you’ve only managed to lose a small amount each week or sometimes none at all but if you consider it the beginning of a lifestyle change for the rest of your life then you will eventually look back and how quickly it came off will be of little consequence when you’re at your healthy weight. Progress is progress, no matter how slow it may seem.

You can do it OP!

Silly question bit can you just go to boots and get weighed? I thought you had to be part of one of their medicated programs. I definitely need to get weight properly and can't do it home (uneven floors/carpet)

pontipinemum · 17/06/2025 11:49

I started a 'diet' about a month ago now. I used to use myfitnesspal but I am using mynetdiary this time I find it much easier to use. I got a 50% off deal and went with it.
I've been loosing about 1lb a week. But I am getting back to much healthier eating habits. I am also keeping my cals at the higher end because I am still breastfeeding.

I've taken some progress photo's and done measurements this time too which are really motivating.

Download the my fitness pal app and calorie count! You need to work out your TDEE loads of calculators on line for this. I suspect you need to reduce your calories to between 1200 and 1500 a day to loose weight. Look online for healthy eating plans

Hoolahoophop · 17/06/2025 11:53

OP I am your height and trying to loose weight. Two threads on here have helped me a lot. The sustainable weight loss group where we improve habits rather than trying to loose quickly with dieting, and the petite weight loss group. It says in the title for those a healthy weight trying to get to their happy size. But there are all sorts facing a bigger battle because being short means our sensible portion size is described as competitive under eating on other threads.

Good luck with it all.

My recommendation.

Plan your food, stick to sensible portions, eat tons of fruit and veg, cut nothing out. Don't be defeatist when you have a splurge day. Find an exercise you enjoy or tie it to something you enjoy but don't have time for (running with an audio book or dance classes, or boring work outs but with a friend you don't have time to see very often). I have lost half a stone this year, slow but steady and have at no point been on a diet. I have changed my eating habits though and upped my exercise through simply moving more.

Epidote · 17/06/2025 11:55

Good luck

Mangolover123 · 17/06/2025 12:11

Lost 2 stone on 800Fast and then started Montjaro and am another stone down in 10 weeks. Currently 13 stone . Am sticking to the 800Fast principals but have been on holiday so put on 3 lbs when away. My weight come off very slowly.
I would like to lost at least another stone in the next couple of months.

CitizenofMoronia · 17/06/2025 12:21

I find that if you get a fitness watch that you can link to an app to track what you're eating and log everything, it helps. Mine reminds me to get up and go for a walk every hour, a couple of 10 min walks soon adds up.

RowsOfFlowers · 17/06/2025 11:00

I agree with this 💯

"Simply eating healthy food" was how I stayed at around 13 stone odd for many years. My appetite is an extremely unreliable narrator, particularly when it comes to losing weight - it's great at telling me what I need but not consistently eating less than I need for a long period! Particularly when I do a fair bit of exercise as well, it's hard to balance.

The amount you eat is absolutely key therefore calories play a part. However protein and fibre intake is absolutely key.

There is a local nutritionist who says things like "just eat healthily" and to be fair has lots of good recipes. But when I calorie counted their meal plans they were also low in calories as well as high protein and fibre.

marshmallowfinder · 17/06/2025 12:30

Yep, this was my height/weight. I've lost a little bit. Good luck OP.
