Yes I weighed yesterday in Boots. I’ve finally gone up to 14 Stone.

Im doing something about it - cutting calories and last night went out for a gentle run

I am 5'5" and 15s 4lb. I have been walking most days for a year and have been on a low carb diet for the last month but the needle on the scale isn't shifting. I am currently waiting for the results of a thyroid test and if that's negative I will be asking my GP about weight loss medication. Good luck OP 🤞

Comedycook · 17/06/2025 12:33

You weigh too much...so do I. It's not a reflection of your character or moral compass. There are far worse things you can be in life.... despite what society tries to tell us.

ElsaMars · 17/06/2025 12:35

This time last year, I was over 14 stone (was too scared to get on the scakes to see how much over!) And I'm only 5ft 2.

I now weigh around 9 st 11 and wear a size 12. Would never have believed it was possible honestly, so I just wanted to say, you can and you will do this! Good luck 👍

How did you do it?

OP dont go in hard.

Find out your maintenance calories and go from there dropping by 100 and then when weight loss slows then drop by another 100 and so on.

So for example, if your maintenance is 1900 a day calories then drop to 1800 and see how that goes for a month, if your loosing every week then perfect stick with that.
When weightloss slows then drop the calories again to 1700 and so on.

The aim is to start high enough for weight loss so that you ave somewhere to go from there, you want it to be a sustainable process.

I've been doing this for a year and lost 40 lbs and now a slim size 10 and a very healthy weight.

I understand the attraction of quick weight loss but you want this to be more of a lifestyle change.

Edited to add, try and hit 130 grams of protein a day.

Edited

This is great advice. No need to go on a crash diet/injections etc etc. Protein and fruit/veggies will give you filling meals and high volume whilst being lower calorie.

Start tracking what you eat. Aim to reduce it by 150 cals a day for a week and see how that effects your weight.

Walk more, get into a gym and lift some weights to help build some muscle (for SO many health reasons) and find what your motivation is, and use this to build discipline and habits.

Take measurements as well as weight. Often if you start moving more, measurements will change quicker than the scale, but will all help show you progress.

You can do this! Don't go for quick fixes, small, measurable changes will literally change your life!

I'm just under 5ft and I weighed 10st 9lb, I had a bmi of 29 and diagnosed with a fatty liver. I was introduced to Nutracheck by a friend. I'm naturally lazy but portion control enabled me to lose weight and I'm now 8st 7lb with no sweating. It costs £34.99 for a 12 month subscription which works out at 9p a day.

Nutracheck is excellent.I'm 5ft 1 and around 10st 8lbs.
I'm vegan and can struggle a bit with my diet being too carbs heavy so keeping a watch on my carbs ratio is good.
I'm going through a lot of stress around multiple close family bereavements and illness at present so I'm focusing on not gaining weight. There does need to be a weight loss but I have to be realistic in the short term.
Best of luck to the op.

ElsaMars · 17/06/2025 12:40

Mounjaro. It still wasn't easy but 100% worth it. Lack of food noise was the key. I still feel 'fat', and I'm in no way skinny - I do think it's a mindset and something I still need to work on.

The worst problem with weight loss injections is what happens when you stop using them.

You have gone bigger than you wanted to be, so it happens. It can happen again, unfortunately, and easily.

That’s the issue with every ‘diet’ isn’t it? Be it fasting, Weight Watchers, WLI’s etc. I’m taking Mounjaro and have no immediate plans to stop. I will start on a maintenance dose next month and go from there.

coolcahuna · 17/06/2025 12:45

You can sort this! I was nearly 14 stone last September. Got on the monjaro and am now 11 stone 10. It's made a huge difference to how I feel about myself and so glad I did it.

Unpaidviewer · 17/06/2025 12:45

Good luck OP! I lost a lot of weight through intermittent fasting. If one method/diet doesn't work for you definitely mix it up.

Jazzyyyy · 17/06/2025 12:50

Good luck OP!

I’m 5ft 2 and was almost 13 stone in 2022. It was the heaviest I’d been but it was obvious how I’d got there - consistently overeating , sugar binges and lack of activity over the 5 years leading up to it. Things especially spiralled during the pandemic.

I’m no expert but these are some of things that have worked for me: Reducing the amount of takeaways I’d have from almost every day to a couple of times a week and cutting back on things like cakes and chocolate had a big impact in the first month and I lost my first half a stone.

I now rarely eat takeaways and mainly just cook my own food. My typical dinner is Salmon, mackerel, chicken, or turkey mince with veg and brown rice. I try and stick to two meals a day, the first meal is often something like oats, eggs and sourdough or french toast. Smoothies and Greek yoghurt fruit bowls are good for my sweet tooth, so I usually have them later on during the day.

I’m now 10 stone 7 and really want to lose another stone this summer. My weight loss has been slow with ups and downs and plateaus but I’ve done it without weight loss injections etc and have really had to confront and unpick my emotions since I was an emotional eater.

Listening to what’s really going on beneath the hunger pangs has been so invaluable. I feel more confident in myself as well in the sense that I’m able to say no to consuming things that feel good but aren’t good in the long term.

If I get a bad sleep my cravings are often out of control so sometimes I’ve just had to use sheer willpower to fight the cravings!

I give myself grace as well, yesterday I was so sleep deprived and I ate a lot of the biscuits that I had in for guests. It is what it is - today is going to be better!

ETA: I’m not currently attending the gym and haven’t for a couple of years now, but I hope to start back soon. For now I do very low impact home workouts or use my walking pad. I get about 6K steps a day but I’d like to be doing 10K.

Mounjaro. I think you’d be eligible at that weight

Not under most trusts. You need Comorbidities, or surgery etc, if your BMI is under 50.

Nah I don’t take any WLI but it’s not as high as 50. I think it’s something like if your BMI is obese over 30 or over 27 and you have a a weight-related health condition such as high cholesterol, high blood pressure, pre-diabetes or heart problems you’ll be eligible.

My starting BMI was around 32 but I’d never been keen on using them so I didn’t go for it.

ukathleticscoach · 17/06/2025 13:01

Top tip - take your shoes off before weighing! That you get you under 14 give you a boost straight away and get weighed in the morning.

In all seriousness, it is very hard to lose weight. When I was younger and training every day and racing I was 10st 7. Even then I would go up 1st in winter.

Now a few decades on I am 15st! What they never mention is that to lose weight you will feel hungry. If I train even 1/3 what I used to do I get injured. Currently had to change shoes as they stopped making existing pair which brought on an injury

Exercise is not the sole answer but you can at least partly get round the feeling hungry part.

As you are able to run its a great help. Slow and steady as you have done is the way to go. Only increase gradually and keep the pace gentle. If you need to walk just walk. Best thing about running is you can just do from your house and its free. Maybe thing about doing a parkrun its free to enter. Don't get into the further is better mantra just stick with shorter runs rest days and a gradual build up.

ITSJUSTBRIDGET · 17/06/2025 13:03

Good luck OP - we are exactly the same height & weight

My weight has been steadily growing over the last 6 years when I had my twins. I was thinner 3 weeks after my c section than what I am now. We survived the first year of twins on a diet of chocolate & coffee.

I went through 5 rounds of IVF to get my twins, and I absolutely refuse to put anymore medication into my body that I don't need to, so WLI just aren't for me - but I do understand that something has to be done.

I'm now in the unenviable point of being very perimenopausal

I'm going to try the old fashioned route of eat less and do more

Good luck with your journey

Fast 800 is great for quick weight loss ive found

Yes, I lost 4 stone a few years back by limiting myself to 800 calories a day.
I worked out my Basal Metabolic Rate and my Total Daily Energy Expenditure.
BMR was 1373 and TDEE (based on being sedentary) was 1647.

It was a revelation.
I've always been a yo-yo dieter and baffled as to why the weight would pile on once I'd stopped a diet. Turns out it's beause I don't need 2000 calories a day.
350 excess calories a day equates to a 35lb weight gain in a year!

So, once I'd lost the 4 stone, I tried to stil to 1600 or thereabouts and by jove, I cracked it! Obviously I still have days where I still eat much more than that but then immediately balance it out with a few 'light' days.

Good luck to you @CelticMaiden.

I'm 5'3 and at the end of jan weighed 15st 1lb despite dieting and moving was struggling to ditch the weight

I went down the Mounjaro route in early Feb I'm 20 weeks in and now 12st 12lb also fasting 16/8 and exercising (gym 4 days a week) the Mounjaro suppresses appetite so makes fasting a lot easier and I have reduced the portion sizes.

Only a couple of people know about the Mounjaro and a couple suspect ive done that, but so much has changed I'm no longer pre diabetic and my blood pressure has gone down. I'm not getting out of breath as easily either.

Downside is cost and a few days of stomach upset etc and having to buy new clothes. I intend to lose another stone currently but need a 2 stone loss to be in healthy BMI.

Good luck :-) I lost 5 stone by making hundreds of small changes which amount to "eating less and moving more". Keep us posted how you do. It's easier if the whole household are doing the same.

Crikeyalmighty · 17/06/2025 13:13

If it’s any consolation OP - I did 6 weeks on mounjaro and came off as wasn’t keen on mainlining rennies as it gave me heartburn far too much - however I realised that in all honesty restricting my eating and calorie controlling was never my issue when I put my mind to it , too big portions in an evening combined with a lack of consistency plus a liking for wine several nights a week was my issue - so am strictly calorie controlling, have banged in a couple of dance excercise classes a week and am still losing at the same rate as I did on MJ - - it’s perfectly possible for ‘some’ to lose without injections, it just depends how much self control you have and stamina to keep it up for months on end without artificially suppressing appetite- clearly though that works for others .

AllTheChaos · 17/06/2025 13:16

@L0bstersLass aye that 2,000 calories a day for women thing is deceptive. My 5’11” very muscular and active female friend almost certainly needs more, whilst my 5’ inactive self definitely needs less!

Justchillinhere · 17/06/2025 13:22

You can do it, I was near enough the same as you, I lost 5 stones by doing about 25k steps daily, dancing at home for an hour would give me 10k, I got a smart watch and competed with others in Fitbit and Stridekick groups. I made meals high in protein and used high energy spices. I love walking still, it's got so many health benefits.

Crikeyalmighty · 17/06/2025 13:23

@AllTheChaos I worked out I stay the same on 1500 to 1700 - gain above that and lose at 1000 to 1250
