I’ll start - sounds stupid but I am scared of the top stair. As soon as I have started down the stairs I’m fine but it’s just that first step.

I hated fish as a kid. Mainly the eating kind. But the penguin in Batman, ate a fish and he scared the shit out of me, think it was he nose.

Oh my, you’ve unlocked a memory. I vividly remember the scene where the penguin chokes up all this black vomit. Scared the life out of me.

Seaweed 🤢

Jasmine82 · 16/06/2025 09:45

Bananas… a single one, not too bad but not a bunch of them. I can’t walk past them in the supermarket. It’s like thousands of big yellow hands. Absolutely horrendous

Noisecomplaint · 16/06/2025 09:47

Heights. Anything above ground level.

and death. Me dying. My children or loved ones dying.

Rats and mice (it’s their tails) I can’t even look at photos of them.

Me too!

Big spiral roundabouts. I learned to drive decades ago and I try to maintain my skills (😁) and not give in to my 'old lady' fears, but I really dread these. I've watched lots of videos on YouTube about how to tackle them...but the reality doesn't tally with the theory! I find that all the lane-changes you need to do are often difficult because other drivers don't respect indicators any more. Fgs - if you need to move across, and indicate in plenty of time, people should let you - as they do on the videos...but good luck with that. I've actually given up checking my rear-view mirror now, because frankly it makes no odds. I'm indicating, I'm moving over, and you better believe it.

I've also noticed a bit more vertigo over the past few years and whereas I used to run down Tube escalators on the left-hand side, I now grip the rail, stand on the right and try not to think about how high up I am!

Wrt the big spiral roundabouts, they are both difficult to navigate and even if you know where you're going, they're also difficult to drive on for sure.

But one tip, I'd give to any driver changing lanes is to indicate as early as you can, do check your mirrors, and crucially, when you view it as opportune to switch lanes, to try to accelerate assertively enough into the gap and your new lane. Even if it's a slight increase in speed, that helps both you & other drivers around you imho.

Good luck!!

Used to have an absolute fear of butterflies.
I got over it after an incident years ago when I was breastfeeding . A butterfly flew in and I hurled myself out of the chair and DS was ripped painfully from my nipple . Agony .
I had a hard word with myself and would say I now can tolerate them around but not too near !

Cows!
They’re just so much bigger than I expect.
It’s not even that I worry they’ll stampede, it’s more that they could just decide to lie down and crush me.

On a weekend away in Northumberland last year, DH and I were once walking through a field. We reached a fence, on the other side of which was a herd of young cattle, the beef type. They were absolutely fascinated by us, all moving from wherever else they were in their field to come crowding close to look at us. The ones at the back were even climbing up onto the rears of their fellows to be able to see over them. We didn't sense any aggression from them, just curiosity, but I've no doubt that they could well have unwittingly trampled us to death just in their attempts to get a better look. We were bloody glad of the fence separating us, and didn't hang around too long.

Moths. A friend of mine is scared of custard.

My dad's late cousin was terrified of tomato ketchup. I used to chat to one of his daughters on the bus; she said they had to keep bottles of it hidden in a cupboard, or covered with a tea towel if it were on the table.

Ships in dry dock
Empty swimming pools

Empty swimming pools yes me too. It gives that strange sensation in the stomach. Exactly the same with huge ships in dry dock.

Thanks for reminding me 😕

Stray hairs give me the willys, I always said if I was famous and went on I’m a celebrity, I’d be fine with all the bugs, heights, even the eating challenge but you put me somewhere with hairs all over, I’d be off quicker than anything.

Cotton wool, especially if it's in big packages you have to pull bits off. It makes a sound that goes through me, makes my teeth hurt
Also wooden lolly sticks, real fear of accidentally biting one

summersingsinme · 16/06/2025 12:36

White baths empty of water, especially if people sit in them. You would be surprised how often people on TV and in films will sit or lie in am empty bath with clothes on, I have to look away until they are off screen. I also don't like people touching the inside of a bath (or white sink). It makes my skin crawl.

I don't really like having a bath or a shower if over a bath if it's not in my own house either.

I'd be fine in a coloured bath - my dream is a copper or wooden one!

Thanks Eagle. Yes, I do indicate as soon as I see either a lane marking or a sign instructing me to move over. And I always talk to myself as I approach these monsters, saying 'Now you know what to do, just have confidence!' But I think these roundabouts are the work of the devil!

I also think many drivers now just don't take notice of indicators - this is one of my biggest driving bugbears. And they often don't indicate themselves.

You've just reminded me of something which is really unkind and I don't approve, but...

apparently cats are terrified of cucumbers. I came across a few videos on YouTube in which people put a cucumber behind their cat and the poor creature goes crazy, jumping into the air and running away, terrified. I do not approve of teasing and scaring animals for fun, but it was fascinating. It's supposed to be because cats (somewhere in the DNA from way back) have a huge fear of snakes and they see these long green vegetables as snakes.

I hope your banana phobia isn't quite that bad!

Mirrors and doors in the dark.

I'm a bit scared of cows, hate walking past them

Tinseltuttifruitti · 16/06/2025 15:08

Sash windows that's are heavy or have a loose rope, things getting poked under my nail, and most animals

slowlydecaying · 16/06/2025 15:10

feathers

my dad used to chuck them on me and torment me when I was a kid saying they were creatures🙄

TallulahBetty · 16/06/2025 15:12

Death

Umbrellas

Being next to massive things like wind turbines, pylons or huge man-made tunnels

GroovyChick87 · 16/06/2025 15:13

Lifts. I also hate going into unfamiliar buildings and not knowing where I'm going. I'm useless with directions and always think I'm going to get lost and make a tit of myself. Even more so if there's a lift.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 16/06/2025 15:14

Heights - induces uncontrollable vertigo.

Flying.

My SM.

My face if I catch sight of it unexpectedly these days 😂

SandrenaIsMyBloodType · 16/06/2025 15:18

Teeth! What the hell is up with teeth? They’re disgusting. The whole concept is deeply flawed. I truly hated the tooth fairy years.
