What I wonder about is per capita

What does per capita matter when girls and women’s lives are ruined?

How many women do we see on AIBU being physically abused and coercively controlled by their husbands or partners who are urged to seek help, but so few take the well-meant advice to leave? Every single day.

I agree - I’m C of E and I don’t see why I should apologise for the behaviour of paedophiles in the C of E.

The people who should be apologising are those responsible for covering it up. In fact, they should be prosecuted for it.

They should be named, shamed, and jailed. In every community.

MiloMinderbinder925 · 17/06/2025 23:38

Of course I don't agree. Why should every single person of a particular religion apologise and take responsibility for a fundamentalist? It should be pretty obvious that not all people belonging to a particular religion are homogeneous.

You've drank the kool aid.

So, you think if members affiliating to one particular minority group in the UK is responsible for literally almost all of the terrorist attacks in the UK, you don't think it's obvious for senior members of that minority group to come out publicly say "not in our name" ? Knowing full well it's going to cause mass tensions towards that minority group as a result.

Honestly, I don't feel I can try to make you see logical sense. It's feeling like willful ignorance. If you don't want extreme right wing bigots in taking over, you're going the wrong way about it.

It's not me who's willfully ignorant. Tarring everyone with the same brush has never been perceived as a mark of intelligence.

Catholics are a minority religion in the UK, yet members of that minority religion bombed the UK for many years. I didn't notice any leaders of that minority group taking responsibility and say "not in our name". I don't remember anyone demanding it either perhaps because they didn't lump every single Catholic together.

Bigots tend not to listen to anyone else but bigots.

Disgraceful reply.

You're choosing to ignore my agreement re: the Catholic church.

You've now thrown your toys out of the pram and resorted to the 'ists towards me.

Thankfully, others are reading your replies and you'll show yourself up without me having to lower myself to insult you. Thing with the liberals isn't it, they don't mind insult flinging. I tend to prefer reasoned logical debates myself. My posts are very balanced , I feel sure of that. They may contain some uncomfortable truths that make some want to look the other way, but they're rational and reasoned.

I will not be shut up by you and your name calling.

I'm getting tired off your finger wagging and you seem to lack the ability to follow an argument. I haven't insulted you or used -ists. You're making stuff up which isn't balanced or logical. Your posts don't contain many uncomfortable truths, don't worry.

A balanced argument is where you look at both sides of the discussion. I must have blinked when you did that.

“Catholics are a minority religion in the UK, yet members of that minority religion bombed the UK for many years.”
This is factually incorrect and a ridiculous thing to say.
Catholics did not bomb the UK.

The IRA bombed the UK.

The IRA are a terrorist group - not a religion. They were not conducting their terror campaign in the name of religion.
Your comments are starting to sound very anti Catholic.

Yes you're right. You must have blinked when I did that.

"Bigot" was your insult of choice as a reminder. But that's what they usually say isn't it when things aren't going their way...

Luckily others on this thread can read both mine and your replies. I'll leave it there.

I was responding to this but it obviously touched a nerve.

Well, obviously I didn't blink because you haven't presented a balanced view.

The IRA are a Catholic organisation.

No - they are a Nationalist organisation made up primarily of Catholics. Their goals and motivation have absolutely nothing to do with religion . Their goal was a United Ireland - their goal was not to further the cause of Catholicism. They are made up primarily of Catholics because ….
Tbh I can’t be bothered to explain the history going back to the Ulster Plantation
You clearly don’t understand the politics of the region.

No I'm in agreement with that poster. Catholic church absolutely should have come out in force to say "not in our name" Instead of twirling about with the latest pope acting like nothing has happened. I assume that poster thought (for some genuinely odd reason ) that I thought only Muslim or black/brown people should be owning and condemning their shit. I entirely agree with the Catholic church comment.

Same here. The Catholic Church's reaction to their child abuse scandals are disgraceful.

OpheliaWasntMad · 18/06/2025 00:42

You said “ Catholics are a minority religion in the UK, yet members of that minority religion bombed the UK for many years.”

It’s a stupid thing to say. Many British , Asians, Polish etc are Catholic … they weren’t all bombing the UK.

The IRA are a nationalist terrorist group . Not a Catholic organisation.

Because one group of rapists is worse than another group of rapists? Is there a scale of which is worse and what makes one rapist more vile than another rapist?

I don’t know any Catholics who would disagree. It’s been a shameful and traumatic time . The more women are involved in church life the better in my opinion.

Why is it stupid? The IRA are made up of Catholics who committed acts of terrorism. I'm perfectly aware that Catholics aren't all one nationality and have no idea what point you're trying to make.

I'm making a point about members of a religion not being responsible or having to apologise for every atrocity committed by a member of that religion.

We'd have to know all the victims but those are hidden largely because of how society treats victims and racism so we'll never know.

You didn’t refer to the IRA - I mentioned them. You just referred to “Catholics”

No. I was making a point about religion, therefore I mentioned the religion involved in a terrorist campaign.

The religion was not “involved” in a terrorist campaign. The terrorist campaign was about creating a United Ireland. Sinn Fein is the political wing of the nationalist movement and is more affiliated with left wing / Marxist politics than anything to do with Catholic teaching .
