New neighbour sunbathing in the nude

ZooHannah · 13/06/2025 22:26

We moved in to our dream home last month, we have a corner plot with only one direct neighbour who is a (I believe) single man and has always been polite and friendly in our initial conversations.

DH looked out of our bedroom window today to see our neighbour sunbathing completely starkers. He came downstairs to tell me and I couldn’t believe it when I went upstairs and saw for myself.

I want to go round to say something however DH has told me I am being ridiculous and he is on his own property so can go what he wants.

AIBU? I appreciate neighbourly relations but I am absolutely repulsed by this.

Another friend put it nicely - if my kids looked out of the window when at school and saw a naked man, he’d be locked up!

Edited

Depends if he was in his back garden or not and whether he was doing anything illegal or not.

But it's not PRIVATE because his garden is overlooked. This could be classed as against the law, as OP has been caused distress.

But it's not that it did, it's the intention

Laying naked in your private garden and doing nothing else is likely to show NO intention

God forbid a MN’er has a husband they don’t hate and is attractive!

Jealous much.
Why dont you and your very handsome man go sun bathe naked together then your be equal with the neighbour.

dogcatkitten · 14/06/2025 15:25

Shout out of the window, 'I can see you!'.

ContraryNoodle · 14/06/2025 15:26

Op, hope your hands won't ache with all of the pearl clutching...

could you put frosted screen up so you can't see - or blinds - ikea do very cheap ones - that give us privacy I thought they'd make rooms darker but they actually make the rooms lighter.

Do you by any chance know the name of the IKEA blinds you bought? I'd love to get some of these!

I was referring to the wider statement I was responding to, and it is not as simple as " you can sunbathe nude in your own garden."

OK then in the wider context it is not against the law either

Melonmango70 · 14/06/2025 15:31

Not the same at all though, is it? He's not lurking outside a classroom window. Big wow, sunbathing naked in his garden. You don't have to look. None of your business.

I would probably ogle your magnificent derriere in a fairly non Sapphic way but from a artist appreciation...

graygoose · 14/06/2025 15:35

It’s pretty gross but not much you can do tbh as it’s his private garden. You could consider mentioning it to him just in case he doesn’t even realise you and presumably other neighbours can see him and so may be mortified himself. I say this as the unfortunate colleague of a few men who have got changed in the office after a bike ride etc. and shut the door to change without realising that they are still clearly visible through the office windows!

SameDayNewName · 14/06/2025 15:37

I'm surprised you're getting flamed on here OP! I think it is a bit weird getting your bits out where everyone can see! Hopefully he'll get sunburn somewhere uncomfortable and rethink his life choices. Otherwise, not much you can do, other than get a much taller fence. Personally, I'd not be doing any polite neighbourly chatting with him either. I'd just keep my distance as much as possible.

Well, it depends what the naked man was doing

PP have said they have local naturists who just live life naked. Which isn't illegal

It's all about context

OP is causing her own distress, by perving on her neighbour in his own garden.

And then giving his body marks out of 10 (and also seemingly weirdly obsessing over him being single?)

imagine if this thread had been written by a man about a woman sunbathing next door

DoctorRoseReturns · 14/06/2025 15:41

WAIT

OP, he wasn't also your child's ex teacher, appeared on Loose Men and you've had to move because the old neighbour's wife was having an affair?

It is private as it’s personal to the person/people who live in a house. It is not public land.

Op is a body shaming miss busy body.
That has a very handsome husband.

Well... yeah. Because to achieve that, the imaginary naked man would need to be in the school playground.

Which would not be the privacy of his own garden, nor would it be a public place - both of which are legal places to be nude if you are simply going about your business.

But I've yet to see a school that has windows that offer a prime view of someones back garden.

It's not at all the same as female changing areas.

To flash I believe the penis has to be "errect and purposeful."

Well it is by definition against the law as it has caused her distress. The question is the extent to which this was intentional and the extent to which he does or will commit much more serious offences.

FFS, how come so few on this thread know the law, safeguarding, paraphilias, the way paraphilias cluster and the way sex offending escalates.

At best it is relatively harmless and utterly unnecessary.

At worst he is giving advanced warning that he is a current or future serious sex offender

JamieCannister · 14/06/2025 15:50

Wolfpa · 14/06/2025 15:10

Your world must be so frightening. Having to make up fictitious danger to make you feel good.

there is nothing at all that suggests that he has gained any pleasure from someone seeing him naked.

there is more evidence to suggest that the OP is a pervert and a peeping Tom.

I do not find the world particularly frightening, but reading on places like mumsnet has given me a much better insight into safeguarding, sex offending, escalation, paraphilias, and men generally

StarlightLady · 14/06/2025 15:45

You do realize that you don't have an expectation of privacy on private land if you can be seen from public places or other private land?

JamieCannister · 14/06/2025 15:52

The law makes exception for naturism. You can sunbathe nude in your back garden, as long as your intention is nor to cause offence or alarm.

WhiteBluebells · 14/06/2025 15:54

I wouldn't be pleased op either with kids in the house, I'm not sure why you are getting such a hard time on here.
I'd be leaving a letter through the door saying we can see you naked do you mind putting some pants on.

I dont think op will say anything about skin colour as she would be called a body shaming racist.

But hyacinth bucket i mean bouquet fits her well.
With her 10 out of 10 handsome husband.
