At what age should you stop wearing jeans ?

When are you too old to wear jeans? I've always worn jeans, tee-shirt, fleeces etc. I wore a uniform at work. I can dress up when it's warranted and scrub up quite well. But it's unnecessary and over the top for going to the chip shop !
I do wear nice tops and cardigans when meeting with my friend for lunch.
Is it time to embrace the polyester ?

When the menopause fades, the waist widens and the hips disappear. This is when the comfy elastic waist pants come along and the jeans hit the donation pile.

I wish my hips would disappear…

That doesn't have to happen you know. I'm 70, I have a waist and still wearing jeans and whatever else I like.

Send them my way! I’ve never had hips and a waist but have always defaulted back to jeans. At least the menopause won’t be able to take my waist away as I don’t have one!

Hallywally · 13/06/2025 20:18

Surely jeans have always been universal- any age/size/shape/sex/style? There are so many different styles and fits available nowadays online, there’s something for everyone!

CharlotteUnaNatalieThompson · 13/06/2025 20:21

At the age you want to. Whether that's 5 or 105 it makes no difference 🤷‍♀️

Shinyandnew1 · 13/06/2025 20:38

But the new style wide and flappy are awful. So there.

Don't buy that style then 😂

Cherrysoup · 13/06/2025 20:48

Quite relieved to read this thread. Mid fifties but only just now confident and have found a pair I wear on a constant.

whatsappdoc · 13/06/2025 21:36

Got my first pair of Levi's in 1968, worn jeans nearly every day since and will probably be buried in them. Do you think there should be an age limit on the label then?

Netcam · 13/06/2025 21:57

I'm 55 and I never wear polyester, it's horrible. I think 55 is the age to stop going to the chip shop if we want to stay healthy, not to stop wearing jeans.

All I'm going to say is Denim jacket.....
Apparently they are outlawed now 😋

Oh no - I just ordered one yesterday! 😊

I’m nearly 60. My waist hasn’t thickened a whole lot and my hips are still there. I’m still an easy size 8. Why would I stop wearing jeans.

ladygindiva · 13/06/2025 22:44

My mum's 81 and still rocks her jeans. Yabu.

Nope, there was definitely a generation who saw jeans as a form of work wear. Fine for the garden or pottering round the house in.

Definitely not something to be seen "up the street in" nor would the be consider appropriate for "going visiting in"

And that applied to both men and women!

Chinsupmeloves · 13/06/2025 23:35

No age limit, wear what you want!

Unless you are wearing baby clothes, there's no "age label" on any clothes.

It's all about body shape, colour, style and shape of clothing.

Type "old lady fashion" in pinterest, any age can literally rock any outfit if chosen carefully. People can be deluded on what style of clothes suits them, but age? no such thing

Teens still wear denim jackets nowadays, depends on the style!

My Dad who died in 2017 aged 92 wore jeans until the end. He probably didn't wear them when he was younger because they weren't fashionable then. People can wear what they like.

Nanalisa60 · 14/06/2025 17:57

Well 64 now and I still wear my jeans and don’t intend to give them up any time soon

Washingupdone · 14/06/2025 18:13

75+ wearing Levi’s 712, 26 slim leg every day with pretty tops unless I am going out out.
Didn’t wear jeans before I was 65 as had to dress smart for work.

ninjahamster · 14/06/2025 18:14

My mum wears jeans, she is 83

Tryonemoretime · 14/06/2025 18:24

I m nearly 74. They'll have to peel my jeans off my cold, dead body. But fleeces? Meh!!! For filthy gardening only.

Thefsm · 14/06/2025 18:50

I’m 44 and today I am wearing a purple silk blouse with a brocade under bust corset and a 35 yard silk sari fabric skirt. Don’t ever let anyone stop you wearing whatever brings you joy.

NEVER!!! 🙄 If you want to wear them wear them forever and request to be buried in them if you like!!! 😊

thornbury · 14/06/2025 19:03

My mum loves her jeans, she's 79. Dad is 80 and only wears them occasionally as he lives in shorts all year round.
