Shower door cleaning

Hello, does anyone know how to clean shower doors so that they look clear? I have tried different cleaning sprays but to no avail, they still look streaky and have deposits on them after cleaning. I have recently tried 0000 steel wool, but it only came up marginally clearer, I tried it in conjunction with Viakal vinegar spray too. I'm beginning to think it's just that I don't have enough scrubbing power in my wrists.

I use cif with a microfiber cloth.

If you've been using more abrasive cleaners you might have scratched the glass.

Ooh I've been dying to share this 😂
Two microfiber cloths, run one under the hot tap until it's dripping wet and hot, squeeze a really generous squeeze of washing up liquid onto it, don't wring the water out, squidge it so it's soapy but dripping wet.
Then rub it over the glass, keep rubbing until it feels clean, the glass should be good and soapy.
Then dry it with the other dry cloth, don't rinse the suds off, go straight to drying.
I sometimes use one of those really useless "hand" towels to dry the glass.
Let me know if it works for you

washing up liquid does do a good job for me but unfortunately it’s a hard water area and it’s a right bugger, I can never get it totally clear.

Vaxtable · 12/06/2025 19:10

I use a squeegee thing when I finish to take excess water off, then dray with a towel. Keeps it clear and bright

Devonchills · 12/06/2025 19:10

The best thing I have found is a magic sponge. Gets them squeaky clean. And only using water too.

Soapy water with vinegar. Polish off with a scrim window cleaner’s cloth or a cotton cloth. Old tea towels are good for this.

Northernlightx · 12/06/2025 19:16

I swear by using a squeedgy after each shower and then spraying with method daily spray, and once a week use a window cleaner spray with a micro fibre cloth. My shower door is about 3 years old now and pretty spotless.

Monstersfromtheid · 12/06/2025 19:16

If you're in a soft water area anything will work. In a hard water area you need to get rid of the calcium deposits. But I'm worried that the steel wool will have scratched the glass.

We have very hard water, so even daily screen squeegying does nothing. My niece says she uses a dishmatic (sponge with a resevoir for washing up liquid). She fills it with washing up liquid, clear vinegar and a bit of water. Swears it does the trick.

RaraRachael · 12/06/2025 19:17

Following as I've tried absolutely everything and mine still doesn't look good and I live in a very soft water area.

AuntieDen · 12/06/2025 19:17

delphis limescale remover. spray on, wipe gently to spread, leave 5 mins, rinse.

ChristmasFluff · 12/06/2025 19:18

Wash an old towel and dry it naturally on an airer, so it goes 'hard'.

Spray your shower doors with water only, and then use the 'hard' towel to clean/dry it off. Repeat daily or every other day until your door is clear, and then once a week should be enough to keep it perfect.

I've cleaned houses once a week in hard water areas and this has worked within a few weeks to get the doors clear.

Really worried that you might have destroyed the surface with the steel wool tho.

Viakal cleaner once a week and scrub with a Scrub Daddy scourer.

I saw an ad by Mrs hinch to use her Viakal that has vinegar in it. Spray, leave for a few mins and wash off. Then polish when dry.

Mymanyellow · 12/06/2025 19:22

Yeah I’m plumping for viakal as well. Haven’t got a cubicle just a screen over the bath but it does work. Spray it on, lather it up, leave for ten mins then rinse and dry it.

TamborineGal · 12/06/2025 19:26

Well my time has come......
Wearing only a marigold glove under a skin exfoliating glove, apply some cream cleaner to the moistened glass surfaces. Use exaggerated circular motions to cover all the glass and got in the nooks and crannies.
Rinse with warm water, then buff with microfibre cloth.

Nancy's toilet magic is great for shower screens. Citric acid and washing up liquid.

JDM625 · 12/06/2025 19:28

Install a water softener!

Previous property didn't have one and I was forever using viakal, vinegar and rough sponges. The glass never looked clear for more than a few hours- till the next shower.

Current place, we installed a water softener and the difference is remarkable. The glass is lucky to get a wipe down every month- if that!

TamborineGal · 12/06/2025 19:28

But....
There's no coming back from steel wool

MalcolmMoo · 12/06/2025 19:32

I use an unbranded glass cleaner, then I squeegee the cleaner off, then I have a cloth design for cleaning glass (a dry shiny material) and I then kinda buff the glass and there’s no streaks.
