Shower door cleaning

RedFluffyElephant · 12/06/2025 19:02

Hello, does anyone know how to clean shower doors so that they look clear? I have tried different cleaning sprays but to no avail, they still look streaky and have deposits on them after cleaning. I have recently tried 0000 steel wool, but it only came up marginally clearer, I tried it in conjunction with Viakal vinegar spray too. I'm beginning to think it's just that I don't have enough scrubbing power in my wrists.

What about normal viacal, let it sit for a few minutes, wash either a minky then squeegee it dry

We always squeegee off the water after a shower and when I clean it I use car shampoo on the glass and then buff with microfibre.

HG Limescale remover if cloudy - like magic.

HG Limescale remover if cloudy - like magic.

Another vote for HG.

I’ve been waging war for years on limescale as we have very hard water. HG is the best I’ve found.

Kill rock is also good.

And train (or in my case, nag incessantly) everyone using the shower to squeegee the screen

I use a spray called Vamoose that I got from Lakeland and a squeegee.

A window /glass spray with added vinegar in with kitchen towel and clean both sides not just the one inside the shower as in always shocked as to how dirty the outside gets too

CallIpswichNow · 12/06/2025 21:45

@FanofLeaves it’s because you searched for ‘my karcher’! Just search for Karcher

skyscrapersinging · 13/06/2025 20:18

If the glass has had limescale on it for a long time (ie months/years), it is possible that the limescale has “etched” into the glass, meaning you’ll never get it off. I had this with an old shower screen in a house I ended up renovating the bathroom of. Even with the very fine grain wet/dry sandpaper like you did, it wouldn’t come off.

Ilovegrantnicholas · 13/06/2025 20:18

White vinegar! Its like watching magic. The soap stains just run off in front of your eyes!!!

CherryRipe1 · 13/06/2025 20:22

Weirdly fabric conditioner! It's a tip I got from here and it works, apply with microfiber cloth and rinse. Also hydrogen peroxide works and also dryer sheets. Cheap shaving foam too.

Nagginthenag · 13/06/2025 20:22

Pink stuff - slightly abrasive but not enough to scratch glass or tiles.

wobblybrain · 13/06/2025 20:26

I use flash kitchen spray and a cotton dishcloth then a quick of over with glass cleaner once all the muck is off

justasking111 · 13/06/2025 20:27

Don't tell my husband. But at the end of my shower while the glass is warm I use his head and shoulders with the scrub daddy. Rinse it off with the shower head, comes up sparklingly. I then get out 😁

HundredMilesAnHour · 13/06/2025 20:28

I live in a very hard water area but keep my shower screen/glass sparkling clean by using Bower Collective limescale remover (better than Viakal) with a microfibre cloth every fortnight and after every shower, I spray it with Neat Daily Shower Cleaner, leave for a few mins (while I clean my teeth etc) and then squeegee it off (with an Oxo squeegee). My shower looks immaculate and it’s minimal effort. It did take me years to figure this all out though!

MiloMinderbinder · 13/06/2025 20:39

Always use a squidgee after each shower. Everybody, always. Why don’t people get that?

CaspianPlover · 13/06/2025 20:46

Once I got my shower clear of lime scale I have used Astonish daily shower spray and its kept the lime scale away. I live in a very hard water area and this has kept my shower screen clear for over 2 years.

RaraRachael · 13/06/2025 20:47

I tried using a squeegee every time but my screen still wasn't clean. There's some bits down at the bottom that look cloudy whatever I use.

DontTouchRoach · 13/06/2025 20:48

Microfibre cloth makes a big difference

I use cif with a microfiber cloth.

If you've been using more abrasive cleaners you might have scratched the glass.

Yes, Cif with a non scratch panscrubber sponge. It needs a lot of rinsing but works well.

Summerbean · 13/06/2025 20:56

I like in a very hard water area and religiously wipe my shower screens with a good quality microfibre cloth after every shower, using a spray of white vinegar on alternate days. I also use a Karcher once a week or so. My screens are as good as new.

Catladywithoutacat · 13/06/2025 21:11

Another one for washing up liquid I literally clean my house with it

LifeIsGreatForUnicorns · 13/06/2025 23:50

Cif bathroom spray for me (we are in a hard water area).
tried all the others but this works best for me

Anothernamechange23gfdd · 14/06/2025 00:06

Just clean it with anything. Soapy water. Baby wipes. Glass cleaner. Whatever.

Then straight white vinegar. Buy it in 5L on Amazon. Dry cloth. Buff it out.

RBowmama · 14/06/2025 00:28

Just use a daily shower shine spray that you leave on after a shower and doesn't require rinsing or wiping off. I know morrison's do one and it's brill. It also means your shower never has that damp wet smell and limescale doesn't settle on the taps. This keeps it fresh daily in between a deep clean.
