Shower door cleaning

Hello, does anyone know how to clean shower doors so that they look clear? I have tried different cleaning sprays but to no avail, they still look streaky and have deposits on them after cleaning. I have recently tried 0000 steel wool, but it only came up marginally clearer, I tried it in conjunction with Viakal vinegar spray too. I'm beginning to think it's just that I don't have enough scrubbing power in my wrists.

I use a squeegee thing when I finish to take excess water off, then dray with a towel. Keeps it clear and bright

Me too.

I insist my DC do it after every shower too as it only takes a minute.

Then Viakal once a week keeps it looking perfect.

ETA: Actually we don't even dry it and it still looks lovely and clear.

Limesale remover spray.
Leave on for 5 mins
Rub off with kitchen roll

Minky glass cloth. Slightly damp, no cleaning fluid needed. Game changer.

hcee19 · 14/06/2025 01:02

Magic clothes from amazon. Clean the shower doors then wet the cloth, wring it out, wipe down all the glass, do not use any products . Within minutes the glass will dry, streak free. I am a clean freak, a bit o c d to be fair and these clothes are amazing, very cheap too...

I've got those - game changer!

I love that there are 80 posts about this! I've got a shower-door cleaning regime that makes me very happy, so I can understand the passion.

My regime is a good, wet wash with Fairy Liquid (I don't understand why we have specialist bathroom sprays that are just much less effective), followed by a good rinse and use of the squeegee.

On special occasions (visits from the queen, etc) I also polish it dry with a special glass-cleaning cloth that I got from TKMaxx.

Between washes I rinse the glass at the end of each shower and squeegee the water off (to minimise damp and mould).

Just once a year or so I use a limescale remover on the lowest portions, which do tend to get cloudy otherwise.

I do NOT use wire wool, which I'm sure would create cloudiness.

I'm not a housework nerd or a clean freak btw, I just love a sparkly shower door.

Gwenhwyfar · 14/06/2025 08:30

I have a load of dirt where one door meets the other. I can't get in there. I'm definitely not risking taking the doors off. Anybody got a suggestion for this?

I also accept that some of the hard water marks that were there when I moved in will just never come off.

Agree. Just don’t let it build up. Been keeping mine looking good in a hard water area since 2007 with the occasional application of Cif to get rid of very minimal limescale build up.

Do you rinse it off afterwards or take a dry cloth to polish it?

Rinse off.

PolarBear559 · 14/06/2025 09:21

Pink stuff and a scrub daddy - thank me later!

rightoguvnor · 14/06/2025 09:42

I keep a hand towel hanging over the cubicle, a different colour to all those we use to dry ourselves. When I switch the shower off I just gently wipe round with that towel. You’re not looking for bone-dry, you’re just disrupting the pattern of the drips. Do the cubicle, the shower controls and the hose. It will dry clear. Everyone does this after their shower, never missed.
your problem is getting it clear now, before you start the above.HG Limescale remover is good.
I live in Kent, it’s very hard water.

hcee19 · 14/06/2025 11:40

Aren't they just...
.

StarStay · 14/06/2025 11:53

It'll be limescale on the shower door. So believe it or not, toilet cleaner is great at getting it off (obviously not one with bleach in - just a standard toilet cleaner)

OhLordy123 · 14/06/2025 15:27

What’s special / different about the magic cloths?

tryinghi778 · 14/06/2025 15:28

Newspaper!

Confusedegg · 14/06/2025 15:40

I use rain x to stop the limescale build up!

You need these. They get right into the smallest of gaps.

How do you know if you’re in a hard water or soft water area? I’m in West Yorkshire. What would that be?

MaturingCheeseball · 14/06/2025 15:55

I think that’s hard water. My cousin in W Yorks has stalactites in her bathroom!!

Can anyone suggest what to do about the shower hose/attachment? It is really limescaley in the segments.

OtherS · 14/06/2025 16:01

Limelite if it's really bad, and then use the Method shower spray after every shower. Really works, and lasts ages. I'm in extremely hard water area.

Lucyliesdown · 12/06/2025 19:08

My Karcher
amazing

I don’t rate mine at all

best thing for shower glass is I think hot water and washing up liquid. I use one of those electric scrubbers. Then once clean, I rinse off and wipe dry then polish the glass with windolene. Comes up spotless every time

Angelil · 14/06/2025 17:25

Get a cleaner in to do a 3-hour deep clean of your bathroom to get it properly sparkling, then get some Waitrose shower shine spray and use that daily. It works.

RaraRachael · 14/06/2025 17:53

@garlictwist if you're in a hard water area you'll get limescale buil up in your kettle.
I had to descale mine when I lived in the south of England but never since I moved

RedFluffyElephant · 14/06/2025 18:02

Hi, I wash it with water then use the spray and wool combination.

RedFluffyElephant · 14/06/2025 18:03

I have done this, it never works for me, the shower doors are the bane of my housework.
