Neighbour not happy with my fence?

chcocooo · 12/06/2025 08:20

So basically after months of neighbours kids:

Playing-on my drive
Trespassing on my drive
Chucking footballs at my living room window.
Constantly standing by my living room window
Shouting and waking my toddlers up.

I finally got a fence installed on Monday which has solved all the issues.

But now my neighbour will apparently struggle to fit two cars on her drive as before the man and his partner would park close on the boundary and his door would open on my bit.
He has asked if I could move the fence further on my bit but it will impact my own ability to have 2 cars on my drive.

AIBU to decline this as it’s on my own drive?

If he reverses in he'll be able to get out of the car won't he ? Job done 😊

Interesting how they quite unashamedly admit that the door opened on to your property 'a bit' (I'm guessing fully) - which also means of course that they would be stepping on and out from/on to your property.

No, it's not a massive deal in isolation - and not something that most people with respectful relations with their neighbours would care about - but it is regularly using somebody else's property without permission.

If they're conceding that they can't possibly make it work parking two cars on their own property, then they don't have a two-car drive; they have a spacious one-car drive - so they have to cut their cloth accordingly.

So he still thinks the space in front of your house is there to accommodate his needs?!

Of course YANBU, but I'd be inclined to say 'why not take my keys and use my whole house for your convenience '

Don't do that - he'll take you up on it and then complain when you occasionally use your own house when he wanted it!

IfYouPutASausageInItItsNotAViennetta · 12/06/2025 09:46

Tell him to swap one or both of the cars for a Delorean.

TomatoSandwiches · 12/06/2025 09:46

YABVU to do anything but laugh in his face.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 12/06/2025 09:47

YANBU. If they'd been better neighbours to you, they wouldn't be in this position now.

Chocolateorange22 · 12/06/2025 09:48

Just to wary of them doing anything to sabotage the fence with a "bit windy last night wasn't it?" when your fence is down sort of thing. I'm a bit passive aggressive and if they'd keep asking I'd photocopy the deeds showing your red line and highlight it with yellow highlighter and post it through their door.

There are a lot of entitled adults who I presume, as children, must have routinely gobbled down their half of the cake in 10 seconds flat, whilst their sister took time to savour her half - and then started bawling about how nasty and unreasonable she was in being unwilling to share hers, because she had a big slice of cake and they had none.

On your bit. He's having a laugh.

ClairDeLaLune · 12/06/2025 10:00

Karma!

Srubag · 12/06/2025 10:01

Well now you know where the kids get their outrageous sense of entitlement from.

They should pull one car on the drive nose first and reverse the other on leaving a large gap between the middle.

ThejoyofNC · 12/06/2025 10:04

This is one of the most outrageous examples of CFery I've seen on here. Of course you're not going to give him your land and pay to move a fence that you've just paid to have put up.

And all because of unacceptable behaviour to start with.

heldinadream · 12/06/2025 10:07

Oh god yes a diagram would be LOVELY so I can salivate over your extremely assertive boundaries.
There should be a 'Fence of the Year' award. You'd win it, then you could put up a little plaque announcing your title, which would rub their downfall into them even further. 😂

Gundogday · 12/06/2025 10:08

Where’s the diagram?

rainbowstardrops · 12/06/2025 10:10

I’d tell him to fuck off.

dollyblue01 · 12/06/2025 10:12

No don’t move it, if they were that concerned when the kids were wrecking your garden, it wouldn’t be there.
no its their problem to solve now, no longer yours and well done for dealing with it.

And this Smile

GasPanic · 12/06/2025 10:14

Point out that they can widen their drive on their own property if they want more space.

softlyfallsthesnow · 12/06/2025 10:15

A friend had similar except with a caravan parked partly over her drive. She put a fence up and neighbour said "how am I going to get my caravan on the drive now?"

Wilfrida1 · 12/06/2025 10:16

You are 100% in the right and not being in the least unreasonable …. but I would still like a diagram. Preferably with stick figures representing the children peering in through your window. Thank you in advance.

NewYorkNewYork24 · 12/06/2025 10:16

Im about to do the same thing OP.
all our fronts are open plan and next door use my drive as an extension to theirs, opening their door and walking round, cutting the corner to the drive etc. putting in a small boundary line with some tall plants so they can’t walk all over it 😤

duuuuudette · 12/06/2025 10:17

Shesellsseashellsnotinmystreet · 12/06/2025 08:57

Isn't no a complete sentence?

No.

rwalker · 12/06/2025 10:17

honestly a complete win I’m delighted for you

oh no way move the fence
