Springhassprungxx · 11/06/2025 22:50

Dd darling/dear daughter
Ds darling/dear son
Dh darling/dear husband etc

Chickenhorse · 11/06/2025 22:50

DD dear daughter, DH dear husband, DS dear son etc.

DisgruntledPelican23 · 11/06/2025 22:51

Or Distinctly Darstardly dependent the relationship I suppose 🤷

Zapx · 11/06/2025 22:51

EOW = Every other weekend
OP = Original Poster

Icepop79 · 11/06/2025 22:52

The first D usually means “Dear” so DD is dear daughter. Then you have dear husband, dear partner etc.
Can get a bit confusing when some people use DS as dear sister instead of dear son.

In terms of other initials, OP is original poster, PP is a previous poster.

LTB means “leave the bastard”.

Sosostressedandanxious · 11/06/2025 22:52

Oh you mustn't forget Ddog and Dcat!

They always make me smile.

RitaFromThePitCanteen · 11/06/2025 22:54

DD = dear daughter
DS = dear son
DSC = dear stepchild
DSD = dear stepdaughter
DSS = dear stepson
DH = dear husband
DW = dear wife
DP = dear partner

XH = ex-husband
XW = ex-wife

OW = the other woman

doglover4ever · 11/06/2025 22:55

As a regular Mumsnet user I really do think that it is very confusing! Just type a few more bloody words and then people actually understand who you are referring too.

Redrosesposies · 11/06/2025 23:03

Oh don't forget
DC - dear children
DGC - dear grandchildren
DGD - dear granddaughter
DGS - dear grandson
PIL - parents in law
DIL - daughter in law
SIL - son in law
MIL - mother in law (almost universally hated on MN - Mumsnet)
FIL - father in law

I'm sure there's more and I think they are listed somewhere on here

HTH = 'Hope that helps' - normally dripping with sarcasm

AndStand · 11/06/2025 23:06

I thought HTH was Hope That Helps!

NC28 · 11/06/2025 23:06

Could also be used to speak about your drug dealer.

Yes, always sarcastic, never used sincerely.

That’s DDD 😂

GentleIron · 11/06/2025 23:08

DC = 'dear child' can also be useful if you don't want to be specific as to whether you're referring to a son or a daughter.

Also:

DD1= first daughter (subsequent daughters are DD2, DD3 etc, the same with DS)

In recent years, posters have begun to use the number after DC / DD / DS to indicate the child's age, but really, the original way to refer to the age of the child is 'DD(9)' or if if you're referring to two children: 'DS1(6) is always picking on DS2(4).' It makes it much easier when everyone uses the same conventions. Sometimes someone will post about their DD8, referring to their 8-year old daughter, and wonder why other posters think they're talking about their 8th daughter.

BabyDoge · 11/06/2025 23:08

Ooh of course, I detected the sarcasm but never knew what it actually meant. Thank you everyone!

NC28 · 11/06/2025 23:09

Haha, true! 😂

NuffSaidSam · 11/06/2025 23:09

PBP - previously banned poster (although you don't see that as much these days).
