It’s been years since I’ve been trying to lose weight. I have done lots of diets but I can’t stick to anything. I will not take the weight loss jabs (no judgement to those that do btw) im just lost. I have all the exercise equipment at home but im so fat still. Yes I don’t exercise much so yes I know my fault.

my biggest thing is my emotions. If I have a bad day or great day I will eat loads. Been off work today due to ds being really unwell and from morning till evening I have just stress eaten.

please help me

I am totally here for the healthy non WLD chat! (Let’s just ignore!)

Low carbing here OP which really helps and means no calorie counting. The LC boot camp thread is fantastically supportive I have found.

Am also treating myself to a PT once a week at the gym. It really helps me with consistency, and knowing I’m using the weights properly. She also encourages me to use equipment I would never have gone near before & generally feel more comfortable in that environment.

I’m going to be 50 next year and REALLY want to shift the extra 3st I’ve been carrying since my last child/ perimenopause.

It does take longer the healthy way, but let’s face it, it’s 💯 better for you and changing your mindset and habits/ exercising is going to benefit you now and way into later life, far more than jumping onboard a current drug craze with unknown longer term health effects 🏋🏻‍♀️🙌

I’m going out for my daily walk shortly but I’m interested in what PP were saying about walking on the spot in front of TV…..does this actually help?

@SpidersAreShitheads I was one of the posters who mentioned it and yeah I’ve found walking/marching on the spot at a brisk pace is effective. I also mix it up by doing a variety of moves I pick up from YouTube walking videos like kicking my legs back or doing a little side step etc.

If you ever have phone calls lasting longer than 10 minutes it’s a good opportunity to walk up around your house. I usually walk up and down my open plan living room/kitchen if I’m on the phone.

At the end of a 30 minute phone call to a friend or being on hold to a company, I’ll have added about 3,000 steps to my stepcount.

Of course walking outside is great, but realistically sometimes I know I’m not going to leave my house. So it’s better to do something than nothing. And turn a sedentary activity into a more active one.

Yes, working at home is very useful too, and Lucy Wyndham Read has quite LOTS of helpful YouTube videos

especially useful if you wear a weighted vest 😁

I am not disagreeing with you, it's great that some people can manage or even put diabetes into remission through diet and exercise. But I think you're missing the point I was making.

My point was that many people with obesity have come to terms with needing weight loss injections long term, much like many diabetics need lifelong medication. Both obesity and type 2 diabetes are chronic, relapsing conditions, and while remission is possible for some, for many others, ongoing medical treatment is necessary to manage the condition and prevent complications and in a good portion of those cases its the same medication which is the WLI.

I am glad we are on the same page, I just wanted to clarify as diabetics often get dragged into the debates.

I know that some people find WLI useful, I have no problem with that or them sharing their experience. I do object to them telling others that they should take them and that happened here up thread. It is even worse when OP stated that was not her wish. It is simply plain wrong to go around recommending drugs to strangers on the internet.

It isn't inherently wrong to recommend drugs for medical conditions though is it. it's not the same as dealing them on the street corner, you'd still have to be prescribed them by a medical professional.

At work a few weeks ago a colleague had clear symptoms of cellulitis and we all said "omg you must go to the doctor and get antibiotics", which she did and saved her getting sepsis.

Obesity is a medical condition and sometimes needs medical intervention.

I think mine averaged out at £30 a week. Probably saved more than that in food and booze I no longer wanted.

Costs only £20 / week - or less than £3 / day - as you extract the free 5th bonus dose, shop around for discounts and stay on 5mg dose. Goes up to £30/week for the higher doses.

It stops the cravings and impulsivity for unhealthy carbs / choc / sugar / wine which when consumed just kicks off insulin issues which throws your metabolism, mind and will-power off into cravings and impulsivity for more unhealthy carbs / choc / sugar / wine - and round and round we go on ballooning up becoming depressed and developing chronic or termimal illnesses on this house of horror merry-go-round that we cant get off.

Our day to day environment is increasingly obesogenic - there is psychologically marketed and food/snacks designed with 'more-ish' (ie addictive properties) everywhere.

zanahoria · 13/06/2025 10:17

Thanks for the recommendations. I have a copy of the Blood Sugar Solution , it is part of a small collection of books I have read and often refer back to including Life Without Diabetes by Roy Taylor and The Obesity Code by Jason Fung. I also loved Ultra Processed People by Chris van Tulleken and pretty much anything on the gut microbiome and fermenting foods. I do not follow one particular method but many of these books have similar ideas and point in the rather obvious direction of stick to wholefoods, mainly plants but I like to build up a bit of knowledge about the science underpinning obesity.

The video is good too, never heard of Becky Gillaspy’ but she seems like a good communicator and she certainly looks remarkably healthy too.

Yeah mine works out to 21.99 a week. I've saved at least double that, if not more, in rubbish food, drinks & buying lunch out - even without the health benefits

Sassybooklover · 13/06/2025 10:21

Diet here is the key. You need lots of protein to keep you full and be aware of how many calories are in the foods you are consuming. Ultimately you need to be in a calorie deficit, to lose weight. Using weights at home is excellent as it burns fat, as is lots of walking. You can find a weights routine on YouTube to follow. Upper body and lower body on alternate days, about 3-4 times per week for half an hour at a time. You can exercise to the moon and back, but if you're consuming too many calories, you won't lose weight.

It’s wrong in this context when Op has clearly stated she does not want to use WLI.

Okay some people pushed it and mentioned it a few times almost instantly - that would have been bad, but predictable. What was even worse and a bit cult-ish was the pages and pages of others echoing the first lot of pro-WLI posts completely disregarding the OPs wishes.

OP hasn’t found it helpful and it’s her thread.

Stop it

ETA( and that last line is to all the posters who keep popping up to push WLI.

Yeah I injured myself last year so I love how low impact and gentle many of her workouts are.

I hate being fat. But i love and crave food so much.

Sigh. It's like a drug addiction.

I need to study more about food addiction. I know that if you eat something very sugary, your body will feel high for a while and then your body crashes and wants more sugar.

I feel exactly the same. Hate being fat. But still continue to gorge

Opensisame · 14/06/2025 21:22

I didn’t like being fat either, although I’m now “only” about 12 pounds overweight, it still really shows on my face and stomach. I can’t wait to lose this last stone. And then anymore weight I lose will be a bonus, but I’ll probably focus on weights and strength training and keeping up my healthy eating /smaller portions after I reach my goal weight.

Today I fought the temptation to A. bake and eat a cake and B. order chocolate biscuits from a shop using JustEat. But I did have two slices of brioche bread after my dinner.

It’s hard but each day you resist cravings it gets easier. I am a very goal driven person so I try and remind myself that after I eat that cake or batch of cookies, I’m not going to feel great in the long term and it’ll set me back from achieving my goals.

Eat the cake.
The extra 12lb might show on your face. My skinny body shows on my face too.
I genuinely would love to be the top end of "normal" or few lbs "overweight" bmi. It looks like the healthier option.
If I got sick tomorrow I'd be fucked for any lose of fat reserves.
According to bmi I'm still in the healthy range, albeit low, it is not good. 😍

Nah not today!

I had a small portion of home made cake yesterday but I won’t be doing myself any favours in the long term if I have it a second day in a row..and then it will be a third day and so on.

I didn’t have it today when I wanted it and the sky didn’t fall down, I just got on with doing other things and made do with brioche and then a smoothie later.

It was actually a good reminder to me that I don’t need cake every time I feel like it and that I am able to use self-control!

Ah that sucks! Do you have trouble gaining weight (if that’s what you want to do)?

I totally understand that - I wouldn’t want a super low BMI either. Once I lose the 12 pounds I’ll have a BMI of 24. I have a rounded chubby type face, so there’s never been any danger of me having a skinny face!

Even in my early 30s when I was 8 stone 7 - which is about 2 stone less than I am now - my face wasn’t skinny it was just “not fat” 😆

I would try the injections and see - they could really help and if not you can go off them.

Smokers use nicotine patches to quit and no one thinks there’s anything wrong with that

Cold turkey for smoking cessation. Stopping smoking is easy compared to losing weight though and is something the government could just ban, along with vapes.

1000 calories a day is not enough. You need at least 1200 to meet all your nutritional needs.

This is why I don't think WLI are the way forward, at least not until they are better managed and regulated. They encourage dangerous eating habits. It's only a matter of time until someone dies if things don't change.

but fat people are carrying many extra calories on their bodies.... that is the whole purpose of fat in the first place. Food stored for later so your point is wrong.
There is a reason the 600 cal/day blood sugar diet works.
