I wouldn't let him into my restaurant.

So, can a nurse or doctor refuse to treat someone?

Who can they refuse to treat or is it part of their job to treat without prejudice.

I don't think we get to choose which clients/patients/customers that we carry out our job duties fo

So the Christian couple who refused to make a cake for a gay couple to celebrate a gay marraige, they should have been forced to? Thankfully the law disagrees with you.

No private business should be forced to serve everyone.

If a private establishment doesn't want to serve a white nationalist that is their right.

FYI a PP pointed out that one of his friends is Indian and was eating with him in this group.

Guramit Singh Kalirai formerly of the EDL, banged up for threatening to slash someone's throat during a robbery. Lovely chap.

IkeaMeatballGravy · 06/06/2025 17:54

It's not just his political views though is it? He was a football hooligan. He is a criminal, he sustained a racist campaign against a kid. He's fresh out of prison. Why would anyone want thier business associated with him?

MrsMitford3 · 06/06/2025 17:17

I am donning my tin hat here.
I am not a fan of his politics at all but where do we draw the line?
Who decides?
It makes me very uncomfortable.
Is it ok for restaurants to refuse women wearing "Adult human female" shirts?
Or ppl with different coloured skin?
Different religious beliefs?
Ppl with keffiyehs on?
Gay people?
Ppl in burkas?
A women only event?

I assume everyone will come on to say it's not the same but I feel like the pitchforks will be next.

Everyone is jubilant now because they dislike him but next time what if it someone you like/agree with politically that is publicly being thrown out?

I think the ability to disagree and respect others opinions is lost and imho that is not a good thing for society.

"Everyone is jubilant now because they dislike him"

I am sure lots of people (some of whom are genuinely far right and genuinely racist) are furious, and his support will only grow. Trying to silence or take rights away from political opponents risks them gaining more influence

I miss it, why has it been banished?

Apparently it was not being used appropriately by a few posters.

So just like the whole class being kept in at break to punish a few we can't have it anymore!!

WhineAndWine1 · 06/06/2025 17:56

@Jujujudofreedom of speech doesn’t equal freedom of consequences. So he can take a running fuck.

lifeonmars100 · 06/06/2025 17:57

Thing is, litrle Tommy Ten Names and all his supporters will be only too happy to use this as further "proof" that he is being persecuted so on one level he will be loving this. Up to the resturant who they allow in, he is a known crimminal with a history of violence. If you own a business I understand that you can refuse to serve someone.

It's steak, not a heart operation, and he's not entitled to it. And yes, if a patient is behaving in a racist manner then doctors can refuse to treat them, unless it is a medical emergency.

Was he behaving in a racist manner?

It is astonishing how few people regard freedom of belief, freedon of expression and freedom of speech as incredibly important.

How can a restaurant take away someone's rights?

There's none so bigoted as a liberal.

It's amazing how people bang on about freedom of speech/expression without understanding what the terms mean.

A private business =/= government.

It would not surprise me if he sues and wins, dependent on the precise circumstances and precisely the reason given for refusing to serve him.

You are completely right right on your other point, though. This is great news for him and his supporters, and will only cause more and more people who believe in free speech and freedom of belief to turn against labour and the tories and vote reform instead. Note - I am not saying they will get more free speech and freedom of belief from reform

I bet he had the GoFundMe set up within femtoseconds of him being asked to leave.

No. It sets a dangerous president.

Would you feel the same if someone refused to serve a transwoman or gay person for example? Just because their views dont aligne?

Do you realise that service providers cannot simply discriminate based on belief (unless that belief is not protected)?

L0bstersLass · 06/06/2025 18:01

Well done to Hawksmoor. Well handled. Nice touch handing over the CEOs business card.

Raquelos · 06/06/2025 18:01

Do I care about this man and his ability to access good steak? No.
Do I think it's a good thing when establishments refuse to serve people because they disagree with their views? Also no.

As others have said, what about if they decided not to serve JK Rowling, or Stephen Fry or insert any name you want because they were uncomfortable with their views. If you are that uncomfortable, take yourself out of the situation, don't expect to be able to exclude other people, to ensure you don't have to interact with people you don't agree with.

The word you're looking for is precedent.

Tell me you don't tell me you support Tommeeee whilst not telling me. Caring about his feckin steak is not the hill I would care to die on. YMMV

BorgQueen · 06/06/2025 18:02

No, absolutely wrong.
Staff should keep their opinions to themselves, as long as they aren’t being abused by patrons or having to listen to Terrorist sympathisers, they should do the bloody job they are paid to do.
It’s a slippery slope to Fascism - one day someone won’t like YOUR opinion, or is it ok just as long as it’s someone you don’t agree with?
Free speech should be just that.

He’s the only dangerous convicted criminal on your list with more proceedings pending (in court yesterday charged with harassment to cause fear of violence against two journalists)

The last two are protected characteristics.

Edited

I’m generally uninterested in Tommy Robinson so wasn’t sure what charges he was up on this time. Just had a quick look and it seems he’s up on charges of harassing journalists. The journalists had taken pictures of him and his family while they were on holiday and published them effectively doxxing his children and making their location known. This was at the time of the Southport riots (which he was accused of inciting but it’s subsequently been investigated and he didn’t. Apparently). Robinson’s family have been the subject of threats which is well known. He found out who and where the journalists were and contacted them to ask if it would be ok for him to ask them questions when they were with their families. In the interview I just watched he says they could have easily published the same article without including pictures of his children or publishing where they were which seems totally reasonable. This seems to be the source of the charges.

I automatically think Robinson is an odious racist, but I’m starting to question what that’s based on. I watched the film he did that got him a custodial sentence and there didn’t seem to be anything in it that was racist. Bit tabloidy, but nothing awful. It will be interesting to know the outcome of this current trial. Interestingly, the video I watched which was filmed prior to his current initial court appearance and in it he says he thinks he gets a gagging order until the case is heard at some point in 2027. He has received a gagging order and is not about to publish etc details of the case.

(The reason I watched the video was everyone was saying how racist he is so I decided to “educate myself”)

I would have no problem with refusing to serve a man who claims that women and lesbians do not have rights separate to his. Partly because I think the idea that the idea that men should have access to woemn's spaces is absolutely abhorrent to the point of evil, and partly because I think I would get away with it because the TW idea that women and lesbains should not have rights cannot possibly be WORIADS
