This is quite a sad thread imvho.
not everyone has money to spend on labels, so what if they want to spend on something you wouldn’t otherwise buy. Leave people alone. Love and be loved.

Totally agree!

The north face. Specifically jackets

Shows how out of touch I am, I thought only old people (like me) wore North Face to walk up hills 🤣
Agree the thread/trend is slightly sneery, it’s the Gen Z version of calling people chavs

You're right.

Depends on your wealth and how you define an every day person.

I saw your pre-edited comment.

Some choose to lease a new car for the convenience of knowing they won't be hit with unexpected bills.

You call it financial missmanagement, depending on your financial situation it is actually a pretty smart choice.

Given the option of leasing a brand new car or buying it outright, lease is the financially better option every time hands down. Invest the capital you would use to buy it and use the returns to pay the rental.

ToadRage · 05/06/2025 22:27

I had friend who claimed she ever had any money but her nails were always done, she had lip fillers and a massive car with a personalised number plate.

Todayisaday · 05/06/2025 22:27

I don't understand this thread. Because I know rich people who do have most of this stuff, also rich people that don't and poorer people who have none of this stuff, and poor people who might have some of this stuff and loads of people in between who have some or none of this stuff.
So how could you catagorise someone for having one or some of these items as rich or poor.

notacooldad · 05/06/2025 22:29

That's why she's got no money, she's spent it on those things.

TheWisePlumDuck · 05/06/2025 22:29

Snobbily looking down on other people's fashion or life style choices comes off very 'poor but made it/wants to make it rich' to me.

I wouldn't know which brand of designer a handbag was if it hit me in the face, but I wouldn't be trying to guess someone's financial status from it either.

Though I have noticed in the UK that some people are just obsessed with an odd game of 'guess how poor they are' from this random attrubute/purchase choice. This weird class hang up appears to be mainly the province of the what would be deemed the lower middle class.

Unpaidviewer · 05/06/2025 22:29

I like some of the stuff mentioned. The whole old money vs nouveau rich always makes me laugh, like we should be embarrassed that we worked for the money rather than given it?

A Range Rover in a terraced house.

That's a really great and fair point.

I hope everyone who has a car on finance does this (I've got a suspicion that the majority don't).

SheWaits · 05/06/2025 22:31

I have/do a lot of things on this list.

I'm not broke or trying to look rich. I just like them.

2025ishere · 05/06/2025 22:31

If I take my Waitrose bags for life to Aldi I’m not trying to be anything it’s just random! Different shops are good for different things. Goodness, do people really bother to think about strangers in this way? I’m with the pp , it’s sad that people assume people are trying to be something in particular/look rich or whatever, when who knows why they’ve got a bag or are wearing what they like or just have!

Hot tubs

If they can afford the running costs then they absolutely are rich 🤣

Cadburymonster · 05/06/2025 22:32

Definitelymaybenoyes · 05/06/2025 22:03

Most cars with new number plates! (I'm aware many get these for work so that's a bit different).

The fact of the matter is, most people can't afford a new car outright but for some INSANE reason this nation insists on persuading random strangers that they are indeed loaded by driving around in a car that they can't afford. When I see them, I do often think if the person driving it knows it's the biggest depreciating asset a person can own.

I'm all for a BMW 1 series with an old number plate if it's got low mileage and runs well!

Agree, I might have a 10 year old 1 series but at least I own it and it hasn't even got 90k miles on the clock yet.

LowDownBoyStandUpGuy · 05/06/2025 22:32

Babies in ‘designer’ clothes from baby boutiques, our high street is littered with these and the stuff looks god awful but you will see people head to toe in old tired clothes pushing old tired buggies with babies and toddlers dressed up like the royal children when they are at an event and the cost of this stuff is unreal but funnily enough all of these shops offer payment plans so they know who they are targeting.

I just don’t get it though, just buy some Asda clothes, no one thinks you are rich just because your baby is kitted out like that. There must be so much more they could be spending their money on.

survivalinsufficient · 05/06/2025 22:32

Oh and Coach handbags!

Hummusanddipdip · 05/06/2025 22:32

Same sex children in identical outfits
Oops, I've dressed my two in matching outfits... my eldest picked an outfit and wanted to dress the baby in the same thing 🫣

Fake watches, and taking your Waitrose bags for life to Aldi!

But, they're bags for life. You take them everywhere your whole life. Or do genuinely rich people have different bags for life for different stores, or simply send the butler with a real Chanel shopping bag?

I'll go with travelling anywhere on a commercial airplane, driving a car personally ie not with your own driver, and using a credit card. Oh, and going to a spa in a hotel, or ordering a takeaway.

lyinginthebathpondering · 05/06/2025 22:24

Hot tubs

Nobody buys a hot tub to look rich they are well known to be common. People just like them.

Todayisaday · 05/06/2025 22:34

True story...Today, I wore my ten pound poundland jeans with my 5 pound primark top, with ralph lauren trainers, a sainsburys bra, and a barbour jacket with my marc jacobs handbag, discreet logo. I also went to iceland in my Mercedes C class 2017 plate with a waitrose AND a Lidl bag for life. My nails look like shit. Guess my financial status 😂

weareallcats · 05/06/2025 22:35

Anything self conscious - dressing to look a certain way, rather than wearing what you find beautiful and/or feel comfortable in; flash cars (or sparklingly clean cars); obvious labels.

PhonicsShmonics · 05/06/2025 22:35

@2025ishere I grab any bags for anywhere they are random put into our bag store, hilarious that someone is even thinking about it'

A Range Rover in a terraced house.

Some of the smartest houses are terraces…

How do you know if someone lives in a detached house…they will tell you.

Theextraordinaryisintheordinary · 05/06/2025 22:36

Badges, logos, obvious brands. Range Rovers when you don’t live on a farm.
