Any Range Rover not covered in mud, especially the Evoque (even if it is covered in mud).

Fake watches, and taking your Waitrose bags for life to Aldi!

I do this all the time!🤣 Waitrose bag to Also, not fake watch!

“Same sex children in identical outfits”

Why would this make someone look wealthy? Surely it costs as much to dress the same sex siblings in different outfits, as it does in matching ones - or am I missing something?

Is it something to do with its not hand me downs?

Dee9409 · 05/06/2025 22:58

No that’s just normal when those are the only bags you actually have in your car. Not trying to act rich it’s just whatever you have at the end of the day I take any bag into any supermarket who cares. I take my Waitrose bags into Asda all the time because normally I shop at Waitrose but Asda is on the way home from work.

The Waitrose bags for life are the best - it’s as simple as that.

amele · 05/06/2025 23:09

@alcoholnightmare i sometimes take my Waitrose bag in to Sainsbury or Tesco, not on purpose and certainly not to look rich, it’s which ever bag i can quickly get my hands on. I also take Sainsbury bags to Tesco and vice versa, it’s daft that you think someone consciously does this, where’s the rule that says only supermarket own bags can be used at the store. This is now the case since bags for life were introduced l.

Personalised licence plates

Edited

I have one of those, it was my dads, it sentimental to me and people can judge all they want tbh.

Fake designer handbags especially LV.

For me it is people with hair that clearly hasnt seen a hairdressers in a long time, supermarket basic clothes but expensive coats, bags and shoes. I say that because that is me!!!

Cant afford more than Tu at best in terms of clothing (although they are very good) but when I could I bought classic good quality stuff that would last. And you can carry off any amount of cheap crap with a good coat for example.

This is me too! Shoes and coat will always be top quality, but for longevity rather than status.

Iceland do brilliant bags. I've had mine since lockdown when they were the only shop that would deliver to me.

MooMooMoooove · 05/06/2025 23:12

Anything Michael Kors gives me the “I can’t afford any high end designer brands, so I got this and pretend” I would never judge anyone with anything unbranded, however I defo judge the tramp stamp that is Michael Kors.

Also to add re the shopping bags I’m not a posh shopper (shop in Tesco) though do tend to take my Aldi bags for life that I’ve got somewhere down the line because they are the biggest 😂

StarDolphins · 05/06/2025 23:12

2025ishere · 05/06/2025 22:50

Now I’m going to be grinning my way round Aldi wondering who’s thinking I’ve got ideas above my station if I randomly find myself loading my cheap veg and good value gin into a Waitrose bag!

🤣 I’m also now wondering if people notice that I get my food from Waitrose and my DD’s from Aldi and now I’ll be seen as a terrible mother! in the interest of balance, I’ll take my Aldi bag to Waitrose tomorrow!

iwentjasonwaterfalls · 05/06/2025 23:14

Something I don't understand with bags - are all fakes super obvious? (I assume not or people wouldn't buy them). If not, why wouldn't you save a ton of money and get a decent looking fake? It just seems sensible to me rather than trying to look rich, but I am (evidently 😅) not a handbag person so I have no idea.

I am very much broke but like the idea that I look rich being driven around in my 1-year-old car (thanks, Motability!) 😅

FunnyHiker · 05/06/2025 23:15

Threads like this scream "I'm broke and trying to deflect".

The really rich? Shop wherever they damn well like. Yes, they shop in all the same places as us.

"New Money" is far more judgemental than "old money" because of the need to feel like they've made it and are better than everyone else.

I'd say anyone trying to fake being rich by being mean and condescending is blatantly obvious.

IOnlyWantSexMoneyPowerAndRevenge · 05/06/2025 23:15

Anything that means trying to feel superior over what other people spend their money (overdraft) on.

There are some things I think are trashy but its not my money and it has zero impact on my life so I try not to judge.

ThreePointOneFourOneFiveNine · 05/06/2025 23:15

I’m confused. How can you tell someone’s trying to look rich? I always assume people buy stuff because they like it. I’m not into fake nails or channel handbags, or a lot of things mentioned here, but if someone else has them it just wouldn’t enter my head that they’re trying to look rich. People with limited funds will pick and choose what they spend money on. So if having your nails done nicely makes you feel good that might be your little luxury in an otherwise fairly frugal life. It’s nothing to do with trying to look rich and everything to do with personal enjoyment.

A big new car, hardly any are bought cash it's not impressive

Please see my comment about Motability. Also. Where do you suggest getting an older car from if nobody ever buys them new?! Think about that for a minute……. As I said, Motability currently have 69,000 (brand new) vehicles on the road and two thirds of those are SUVs. Why? Because those of us who physically cannot bend in any way shape or form, can only get into higher up vehicles such as SUVs & MPVs. That’s why crossovers have become so popular (especially non-4x4 ones), elderly & disabled drivers!
I can assure you, I am not trying to be impressive with my 72 plate large SUV I’m just trying to have a vehicle I can actually get into, keep my mobility scooter in on its hoist and also get my child in there somewhere. What you can’t see, is that there’s only one rear seat, my boot is full of mobility scooter so nowhere for shopping and the driver’s side is fully adapted.

A Lamborghini.

How many broke people do you genuinely think own lambos?

What a ridiculous thread 😂

Its like surgery. You can only tell the "bad" ones so everyone assumes all surgery is bad. Just because you don't notice the good ones not because there aren't any.

Im not into labels so don't buy them or fakes but there are some good fakes out there otherwise there wouldn't be so many services offering to verify your bag.

ETA about 10 years ago MN went mental over some fake Chloe Paddingtons. Apparently they looked real and a LOT of people seemed to buy them and were delighted with them.

Kids in Ralph Lauren 😬
My mate dresses her kids in RL. However she is extremely rich and makes more money in a couple if weeks than I do in 18 months, so does her husband!!!
So im not accepting that entry! 😆

The north face. Specifically jackets
Only if worn by road men and the like!
I'm not trying to look rich in mine on Helvellyn, just worm and professional.

@notacooldad

Doing the worm professionally on Helvellyn wearing North Face is my no. 1 hobby, too.

This is quite a sad thread imvho.
not everyone has money to spend on labels, so what if they want to spend on something you wouldn’t otherwise buy. Leave people alone. Love and be loved.

You can't have been here very long if you haven't yet realised just how much snobby crap this place is littered with! 🤷‍♀️

CrochetQueeen · 05/06/2025 23:23

@ButteredRadish I didn't mean to offend, of course there are plenty of valid reasons for people to choose new and a large cars and we have bought new cars in the past but not SUVs. That said none of the many, many people I know with these cars that seem to have something to prove have motability cars, disabilities or are elderly

BasaFillet · 05/06/2025 23:23

@UseNailOil I can afford a bag like this but I want one. It says ‘mug’ to me.

lil Freudian slip there? I think you want one 😆

People who actually have money don't need to advertise it. I love nothing more than rocking up to BC or First in a comfortable track suit and watching all these glammed up women (especially) with their fake LV/Dior bags hoping to get upgraded...the look of hatred when I waddle on the plane and turn left .... because I actually paid for my ticket... sorry I'm not normally a gloater but airports definitely do something to some people including me 😁

I can guarantee nobody gives a shit when they’re watching you waddle into business class.

Unless the complete snob in you is pouring out.

How unattractive🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢

I own 4 and it depends which of the shops I go to which colour lambo I take. For example I went to Aldi today and brought the yellow one but to my utter HORROR the only bags for life I found in my boot were for Harrods so I had to go back home to change bags. Nightmare city.

MNHQ bring back the laugh react please 🙏, this actually made me laugh out loud 🤣

TheCoralMoose · 05/06/2025 23:25

Those fake LV or Dior bags are horrid.

Fake Gucci belts ala Del Boy.

I would rather have a nice genuine leather bag from M & S or Monsoon.

Fake Balenciaga or Versace tshirts might as well wear a sandwich board and they are a insult to sandwich boards.

A lot of fake bags tshirts etc are money laundering items for criminal gangs.
I dont want to fund criminals.
In Manchester the police have had quite a few shops that sold these horrid counterfeit items shut down good on them.
