Fake eye lashes
Big long plastic nails with elaborate designs

Shopping at Bicester Village outlet 'village' for clothes with designer clothes with the brand name in large script, so that there is no doubt what label it is.
It's a shame, because pleasant looking people look like advertising billboards and it takes over the general effect. Probably due to peer pressure.

Most cars with new number plates! (I'm aware many get these for work so that's a bit different).

The fact of the matter is, most people can't afford a new car outright but for some INSANE reason this nation insists on persuading random strangers that they are indeed loaded by driving around in a car that they can't afford. When I see them, I do often think if the person driving it knows it's the biggest depreciating asset a person can own.

I'm all for a BMW 1 series with an old number plate if it's got low mileage and runs well!

It works because people are stupid enough to fall for the “you’re getting a bargain”. I remember trying to explain to a partner of one of DH’s friends that the garage calling her up at the end of her 3 year deal to offer her a new car costing slightly more works out great for them as she’s tied in, they’ve made zero sales effort and they get the old car back to sell again. She couldn’t understand.

BMW One Series with a old number plate

Could be a personal plate.

Matronic6 · 05/06/2025 22:14

Wearing Polo Ralph Lauren and those Balenciaga trainers.

ScrewedByFunding · 05/06/2025 22:15

What's wrong with poor people trying to look richer?

Should they just know their place and not bother?

You sound like bullies.

If they couldn't afford it, they wouldn't be deemed suitable for lending...

You have to be able to afford the repayment...

Tetchypants · 05/06/2025 22:17

It’s that old money vs new money thing, isn’t it.

Diamantés on fingernails.
Turkey teeth.
Handbags with the brand on.
Stupidly thick eyelashes.

TooBigForMyBoots · 05/06/2025 22:18

A Lamborghini.

Jesss21 · 05/06/2025 22:18

I think this thread is just in bad taste - looking down on other people, v unpleasant.

neverbeenskiing · 05/06/2025 22:18

This is a really mean-spirited, sneery thread.

notacooldad · 05/06/2025 22:18

Kids in Ralph Lauren 😬
My mate dresses her kids in RL. However she is extremely rich and makes more money in a couple if weeks than I do in 18 months, so does her husband!!!
So im not accepting that entry! 😆

The north face. Specifically jackets
Only if worn by road men and the like!
I'm not trying to look rich in mine on Helvellyn, just worm and professional.

Littletinytarzanswingingfromanosehair · 05/06/2025 22:18

Not related so much to the job title but, I know of someone who went shopping with a friend and she had the yellow Selfridges bags (thick paper ones, not the cotton ones) in the boot of her car and apparently it was used for photo ops on SM to make it look like she was £££ but in fact she would get stuff from Primark, put the stuff in the same Selfridges bags and take more pics. Sad and strange what social media does to us and the "fake it til you make it" makes me nauseous..

Fake Louis V bags. Fake any bags really.

Agree. Can see them a mile off.

This is quite a sad thread imvho.
not everyone has money to spend on labels, so what if they want to spend on something you wouldn’t otherwise buy. Leave people alone. Love and be loved.

I don't like it either, quite sneery, apart from the self effacing posts.
Won't be reading further.

Designer items with their logo written across it. Ie a top with the logo across the chest area

Inch long acrylic nails with lumpy jewels ,butterflies and plastic ribbons stuck on them. If they have square ends they're even worse.
Eyelashes that look like draught excluders .
Louis Vuitton anything . Really naff.

Ok you have lost me on the matching outfits thing. How’s that trying to look rich I thought it was just easy (if kids are same sex and close in age)

k1233 · 05/06/2025 22:23

Anything that is conspicuous consumption ie showing brand names. These days common luxury vehicles eg BMW, Audi, Mercedes - everyone has one these days.
