I bought an M+S beauty bag out of sympathy for them...well sort of.

I do like a bargain and I also like shopping, so not saying there was nothing in the act for me.

I think you need to suck on one of the preserved lemons as penance. Not sure chocolate is actual penance....

By the way, that recipe I posted doesnt look right, not sure you should just put rinsed dried beans in a slow cooker, surely they have to be soaked first?

Yes but should she put on weight if she tries really really hard to eat said bars in one go - surely that will be penance enough, no?

How does one use preserved lemons? Asking for a friend.

you can make a lovely hummus with them. Also great in tagine & salad dressing.

mrschocolatte · 05/06/2025 20:01

@soupyspoon I often make curries in the slow cooker with dried pulses so I think, applying the same principles, it should be ok. I had a read of the recipe and it seems to suggest using dried beans is perfect for this.

Ok, I might give this a go then, I even have pomegranate seeds in the freezer.

I go willingly to my chocolate doom and will reflect on the error of my ways whilst weeping at the thought of what my life has become.

Please report back if any if the contents of the bag are good!
I was gifted one once and I’ve kept buying some of the products which is unheard of for me.
Love the logic you’ve applied to your purchases too 😊

mrschocolatte · 05/06/2025 20:05

@Garibald Oh, that sounds right up my street!

fgswhywouldIdothat · 05/06/2025 20:05

I need an update. Is the bag still on the stairs? I feel this thread has been derailed by preserved lemon chat.

In due course!!

I have a guilty secret about M&S that I haven’t told anyone yet because I feel a little ashamed. Just days before the cyber attack I bought some T-shirts online and when I went to check out, a ‘student beans’ discount had been applied to my bag. I have no idea why. I’m 53 and haven’t been a student in 30 years. It was obvious it was a mistake but I thought ‘what the heck’ and paid for the items less the discount. 2 days later M&S imploded and I suspect the hackers were running riot for a few hours beforehand doing all sorts. I feel very guilty that I benefitted from this. So today in my Ocado shop I bought one of those ridiculous £8 Big Daddy chocolate bars as penance. Will I be forgiven?

I was looking at those big daddy ones last night. Craving it which is weird not a big chocolate eater. Going to get one tomorrow. Have you tried it yet?

CaravaggiosCat · 05/06/2025 20:13

Haha.....I was just going to send a laughing face but apparently that's been removed.

Glitchymn1 · 05/06/2025 20:14

soupyspoon · 05/06/2025 19:15

I went home

And now its on the bottom of the stairs waiting to be taken up

And you know what will happen next. I'll be up and down those stairs and it will sit there for a while.

I cant make any guarantees as and when it will get to the bedroom.

🤣🙈 same!

mrschocolatte · 05/06/2025 20:20

@Catpuss66 No, I haven’t tried it yet. I get my shop on Tuesday so I have a few days to wait. My brother had one the other day. He’s a sneaky so and so. He saw it in M&S and snatched it up immediately. Waited for my lovely SIL to go to an evening class and then scoffed the whole lot. Took pictures and everything. He said it was delicious!

This is why I cant respond to anyone

Everyone is hilarious, quite rightly on such an entertaining thread about beauty bags, biscuits and preserved lemons

But I cant tell any of you this.

Sorry about that.

I'm finding this thread pleasantly restful, especially after a lot of stressful shit that I WON'T bore you all with.
I bought 2 jars of preserved lemons a good fifteen years ago. Until very, very recently one of said jars was open in the fridge and had been so for the duration of my ownership of it. Then DH threw it away. We've been moving house so random shit like that's been happening. I had to stop myself telling him off! I mean, the clue's in the name, they're preserved, they'll outlive me!

I don't actually know why I bought them in the first place but I'm going to blame a Yotam Ottolenghi recipe. 🍋

soupyspoon · 05/06/2025 20:24

Voting update

Its 52% vs 48%

Im finding that quite triggering

Someone please vote immediately.

These random things stuck in the cupboard and I mean sometimes literally stuck in the cupboard are always his fault.

@heldinadream I think I fell for the same recipe. Not even preserved lemons, Iranian ones. He described them as staples from your local corner shop.

He has a lot to answer for that man.

And I know this is sacrilege, but some of his recipes aren't even that nice.

There. I said it.

Okay so reporting back.

Body wash is lovely. Nice, luxurious lather. But I like anything from that brand.

The bloom & blossom body cream is a bit meh. Fine, but not very exciting.

The Wow dreamcoat - fantastic, so far anyway. Really like the effect after blow dry, but remains to be seen if it actually protects against humidity. I'm in Ireland, so I'll put it through its paces.

I like both the perfumes. I was afraid the frangipani would be too sweet, but it's actually quite fresh. Pleasantly surprised about that.

That's all I've tried so far.
