To ask what one extinct thing you would bring back from your childhood?

By “thing” - I don’t mean people. I’m sure there are people from our childhoods that we would all want to bring back more than any “thing” in the world.

The thing that I would bring back would be tinned Spaghetti Hoops with Hotdogs in Smokey-Bacon Sauce by Heinz.

Best thing ever in the 90s IMHO!

Wait, what?! I loved garibaldi biscuits but never knew there was a chocolate version! Did they have currants in them?

Of course! They were just your standard Garibaldis coated in milk chocolate.

Or, if you're my friends, "They never existed/you've made that up/you're mad".

Reliablesource · 02/08/2025 14:11

Lucozade, when it was mostly sold in the chemist and was only ever purchased for medicinal purposes. It came in a large glass, dimpled bottle and was wrapped in crinkly orange film. It was the absolute highlight of being off school sick for a few days! I’d be left at home under a duvet with a bottle of that and it was such a treat! Happy days, when things were much simpler…

Am absolutely gutted that I never, ever knew of those. They would have been my perfect biscuit!

I have also spent years telling people that we used to get (green) mint custard with chocolate sponge for school dinner sometimes (early 80s). No one I know remembers or believes this, including my siblings! I randomly listened to a podcast about school dinners a few months ago and someone actually mentioned the mint custard and finally I felt vindicated! 😂

Caterpillargirl23 · 02/08/2025 14:16

I'm amazed chocolate Garibaldis never made a comeback, they've put chocolate on many foods and not Garibaldis, makes no sense.

Galaxy truffle eggs - I know they still make small ones but they're nowhere near as good as the creme egg sized ones were

Ferrero Mint

Body Shop "summer rain" shower gel

Woolies

Cremola foam (quite probably tastes disgusting but I remember it fondly!)

Oh gosh yes, Creamola Foam! ❤️ My grandparents lived on a remote farm, and a mobile grocery shop came round once a week and she’d occasionally buy a little tin of it as a treat! We were obsessed with it! I loved the raspberry flavour and was always a bit disappointed if she came in with the orange one 😂 You can get versions of it online now but I’ve tried a couple and they are awful.

Trios - although I am informed they still exist i can't find them anywhere.

TRIIIIO! TRIIIIO! I wanna Trio and I want one NOW!
Perhaps Susie ate them all...

(totally showing my age now... 😂)

Yes. They were just Garibaldis, with a layer of chocolate on the top.

They were my favourite biscuits of all time.

Katemax82 · 02/08/2025 15:29

The body shop pre 1994

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 02/08/2025 15:32

Tins of sterilised cream. Kept for ages and tasted - well, unlike actual cream but I loved it!

And they still sell Old Jamaica chocolate in Woolworths in Oz. Last time I was over I came back with a suitcase full.

I'd like to bring to the 2020s the sense of stability and optimism which existed from 1995 - 2001.

Not great for my waistline but I'd like an Abdul's takeaway and for proper big naan/flatbreads breads to exist south of Birmingham.

spoonbillstretford · 02/08/2025 15:46

Also a Wright's Pie shop.

Menobaby79 · 05/08/2025 08:29

Licko chocolate or Choc Lick! I used to love buying this from the shop on the way to school, so good. 😋😋😋

Green mint custard!

I’d totally forgotten about this until you mentioned it!

Yes! We got this at school with slabs
of chocolate sponge too!

It really did exist! Promise!

When I moved house recently, the owners had left me one of those old fashioned toastie makers. Does anyone know if they still make them? It took me back yo the good old days.

GRCP · 06/08/2025 10:32

I still remember the box. Thank goodness, Manor House cake, is still made.

You used to be able to get big tubs of the yogurt that came in a fruit corner. Called muller thick and creamy in a bluey/purple pot. It was so nice, I can still taste it in my head. The yogurt in the corners isn’t the same any more either. Fruit - all fruit actually tasting of something. It’s all so bland now in comparison

Yes, I bought one on Amazon a few months back - my children too will have fond memories of sealed toasted sandwiches filled with beans or cheese the temperature of molten lava. And the scars to show for it.

Do you mean the Breville one? Still have mine and still use it.

Bloody hell...yes!

Jellycatspyjamas · 06/08/2025 15:18

It’s a breville one I bought on Amazon, best £30 I’ve spent in ages.

It's just cleaning them, that's a pain
