To ask what one extinct thing you would bring back from your childhood?

By “thing” - I don’t mean people. I’m sure there are people from our childhoods that we would all want to bring back more than any “thing” in the world.

The thing that I would bring back would be tinned Spaghetti Hoops with Hotdogs in Smokey-Bacon Sauce by Heinz.

Best thing ever in the 90s IMHO!

Spira, Mars Delight, Marble and Raspberry ruffle chocolate bars.

Pogs. Avon Pretty Peach and Colour trend. Body shop bath beads.

A sense of optimism, being in the moment, no phones, kids respecting their elders, seemingly endless sunny days.

MsNevermore · 06/06/2025 00:36

Mars Delight’s and Milky Way Crispy Rolls 😍

I remember when the Milky Way crispy rolls were 30-something pence.

alcoholnightmare · 06/06/2025 00:36

I’d bring back… my figure! Also, Superted and inspector gadget

booksnbaking · 06/06/2025 00:52

Yes yes to Old English Spangles! And in the late 60s, early 70s? there were very short-lived red stripy mints in Liverpool called, ta-dah, Liverpool Mints as rivals to Everton Mints, also by Callard and Bowser I think. At least, I think they existed; nobody else seems to remember them…

Izzy24 · 06/06/2025 02:42

I can’t believe it took so long for someone to mention ICE MAGIC!

Just beyond understanding that it no longer exists…

Also, why has the laughing emoji gone?

LaLaLaLavaChChChChicken · 06/06/2025 02:46

Childhood, including teen years, without social media.

Black Velvet blackcurrant drink and Quosh. Also that SunQuick orange juice.

wobblyweasel · 06/06/2025 03:00

The drink Quatro, I loved it! Woolies pick and mix

Anotherparkingthread · 06/06/2025 03:01

I hate that some people felt the need to spoil the theme of this thread with comments like "common sense" and "manners"

I'm going to call these people edgemoms which is a bit like edgelords (moody teenagers trying to say things to get noticed).

I hope all edgemoms calm the fuck down and before they call me sexist, it's based on a phrase for a certain type of boy/man. So that isn't gonna fly. It isn't that hard, just enjoy the moment 😁

Anotherparkingthread · 06/06/2025 03:06

Also those marble chocolate bars. They were like a box of chocolates, all to myself. I would get one a week with my weekend pocket money and eat one cube a day for 6 days. Felt super posh! Tasted fancy because of never had praline before. Love. And I'd choose when I had a piece, so not after dinner like dessert. Just in my bedroom, after a book, or when my favourite radio show came on. Utter bliss

Ricicles

Proper Lucozade made with sugar and not sweeteners - you know, as the name indicates

Central Weekend Live

Top of The Pops (but with very carefully vetted presenters)

The old Nestle chunky chocolate bars that I only ever recall seeing in white vending machines (that required the strength of three people conga-style to pull open the drawers) on railway station platforms

Kids' comics from the 80s that were still stuck in the 50s without slick, woke, full-colour glossy pages - with occasional free gifts like whoopee cushions, thunder snappers and Highland toffee that was harder than diamonds

Yellow sweet vending machines on the outside of corner shops

Spokey Dokeys - or those reflector Tony the Tigers that you got free in Frosties

Green Shield Stamps

Sorry, that was way more than just one!

Edited

My Mum used to work for Green Shield Stamps. My grandad, her FIL, was a celebrity and used to people giving him stuff for free. One day he phoned her up to ask her if she could get him a load of them for free. Er, no.

I miss artificial flavours on things like Orange TicTacs and Smarties.

JoshLymanSwagger · 06/06/2025 03:27

Heinz frozen Baked Bean and Sausage pizza.

A proper paper Argos catalogue.

KiaOra orange squash.

Mothership4two · 06/06/2025 04:16

10p big bars of (tasty) chocolate.

Everything being cheaper (even allowing for inflation) - swimmng pools, cinemas, paperbacks

echt · 06/06/2025 04:31

A proper paper Argos catalogue

For several crucial years, our very young DD read the Argos catalogue avidly. She didn't know you could buy the stuff. Grin

NestEmptying · 06/06/2025 05:28

My town centre - it died a few years ago when the last of 5 big department stores closed and went to the nearest out of town shopping centre.
Full of vape shops, charity shops and empty units now 😔.

JennyForeigner · 06/06/2025 06:48

Optimism

twoleggedpirate · 06/06/2025 07:27

Hope!

RunningJo · 06/06/2025 07:31

Definitely Spangles sweets

steepdreams · 06/06/2025 08:05

Time outs with 2 bars in them and properly coated in chocolate, not the wafer rubbish they are now

Irish Cadburys wrapped in purple paper & gold foil. You can still get the same chocolate, but it’s not the same opening a plastic wrapper

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 06/06/2025 08:08

Bags of crisps with a little blue ‘screw’ of paper with salt in. OK, back in the Dark Ages, and crisps were a rare treat anyway.

Oh I loved those crisps. You'd put the salt I and shake the bag about!

FlightCommanderPRJohnson · 06/06/2025 08:16

Consulate menthol.

The Body Shop as it used to be, with green labels on the products and about 100 different perfume oils, cheap as chips.

Phileas Fogg snacks.

Spira - the best!

Yes I loved a spira bar!!

You can still get them!
