In fact I'm dipping in and out of MN while we watch Saltburn on the BBC. But I've already seen in, so not fully engaged. Also don't fancy tackling the washing up quite yet so flicking up a post even in reply to a poster such as yourself has some appeal, even if not that great an appeal :)

I'll stick to those subjects I'm vaguely interested in OneMorePiece.

You're free to say what you like, within the guidelines of course.

'You're free to say what you like, within the guidelines of course.'

I would expect you to do the same of course.

Sevillian · 22/06/2025 23:32

Well I don't feel moved to say anything much about you OneMorePiece!

And actually I want to watch this next bit of Saltburn so I'll leave you to it if that's ok.

OneMorePiece · 22/06/2025 23:36

That's fine of course.

Sevillian · 23/06/2025 10:05

Agreed, absolutely. I used to review complaints on behalf of the Healthcare Commission for which Trusts had refused to accept responsibility despite being pretty obviously at fault. At that time entry to medicine was still competitive. Worse still, sadly I would say that mistakes, more often than not, are not recognised as such and don't generate complaints. The £2.8 billion is the tip of the iceberg

And now a national investigation into maternity services, announced a few minutes ago.

I guess part of the discussion on these threads about merit and standards is because the levels of complacency articulated by some posters can ultimately be a very dangerous thing.

Makes sense. IMGs will always be an important part of the NHS but any country, including the UK, shouldn't be over reliant on overseas recruitment.

Completely agree.

This year will be a lot higher. Maybe they’ve seen the 2025 figures and realised it’s unsustainable.

mumsneedwine · 23/06/2025 20:03

Figures for how many different specialities people applied for and their origin. 2 people applied to all 23 (thinking a bot !).

That is funny!

So many signals here of creating a large pool of UK medical school graduates held at 'foundation three status'. Just take the hints from the language. Wes Streeting chooses all of his words very carefully and each of his speeches indicates one plan and one only (a perfectly sensible one, as you'd expect - bright guy/ principled).

No response to the issue of medical negligence or the announcement today about the national inquiry into maternity care, highlighting the issue of sub standard care. Quite telling in itself. Although no pressure to respond obviously!

I was hoping the nearly 60,000 applications in 2024 meant for August 2025 start date. Unbelievable if it is more. Who fell asleep at the wheel and why was this not monitored? I have a graph but cannot upload it.

I am going to email the MP mentioned in the article and thec journalist as the situation is worse than they reported..

UK prioritisation coming. No PAs on doctors rota. IMGs taking any jobs left over. This is the plan moving forward. So v simple, in line with the rest of the world. Simple.

Sevillian · 23/06/2025 22:03

mumsneedwine well I can certainly understand why you think it's so simple. Unfortunately it isn't. But good luck with the simplistic approach.

mumsneedwine · 23/06/2025 22:06

Uk Grads getting priority. Simple. Like the rest of the world. Sanity is being restored.

PurpleFairyLights I think it may be the case that you can't email an MP unless sh/e's your own. Parliamentary protocol means that you have to go through your own MP.

Sevillian · 23/06/2025 22:08

Or more accurately you can email but they won't read/ respond.

mumsneedwine · 23/06/2025 22:13

UKGs getting priority, best news this week. Well done everyone.

mumsneedwine · 23/06/2025 22:14

Can email any MP you like. It’s called a democracy.

You clearly don't understand the import of the term democracy.

So yes you can email but but you'll get no response, as I've said. With very specific exceptions it will be futile. That MP may at best forward your email to your own MP (if he has your address). Otherwise the MP might send an auto email telling you to contact your own MP. Or that MP might just press delete.

So basically, just about as futile mumsneedwine as your insistent (desperate?) posts about how everything is fine, that Wes has listened to MN, that all UK MGs will have a training post etc.

They won't, look at the language, think about the practicalities, don't embarrass yourself further.

Exactly and you can talk to their staff on the phone 😁

I have emailed other MPs in the past and have always been taken seriously.

Sevillian · 23/06/2025 22:31

In that case either your contact fell within an exception or the MPs in question weren't following protocol.
