This has actually really annoyed me. I'm a 32 year old woman and I go to the cinema on my own ALL THE TIME. I have odeon limitless and will literally make a day of it and watch 2-3 films... ON MY OWN. Because I'm a grown up, and can go to places on my own! Jesus I went to Walt Disney World for 10 nights alone because nobody else wanted to go... call the police!!

Amberlynnswashcloth · 02/06/2025 16:21

Film critic or lecturer maybe. I've known a few people in these jobs and they go to everything, usually on their own, including kids films.

I've been to the cinema many times by myself. The only animated film I watched was The Simpsons and I was not the only lone adult in the cinema.

minnienono · 02/06/2025 16:24

My dsd went to see it yesterday, she’s an adult

ToWhitToWhoo · 02/06/2025 16:24

No, everyone's allowed to go to films on their own!

Mh67 · 02/06/2025 16:26

We go to cinema every week and there is always single males no matter what film we see

Richiewoo · 02/06/2025 16:28

Don't see the problem. Stop being so judgey

HRTQueen · 02/06/2025 16:29

I would be suspicious

but then I am aware of how child sex offenders operate and he may just be an adult who likes children's films

DoctorRoseReturns · 02/06/2025 16:29

AzureShark · 02/06/2025 14:44

Yeah, still odd.

I've 3 dc from 17 down and couldn't even count how many kids films I've taken them to over the years. I don't think we've ever seen a lone adult watching a kids film in a cinema, ever.

It would be unusual. Odd. Uncommon. So it would draw my eye and I'd notice, absolutely.

All the cool girls on this thread who are adamant it's just so normal and happens so often they wouldn't even take note are rather funny.

This has to be the most ridiculous time to have been called a "cool girl" by this shit show of a site

xsquared · 02/06/2025 16:29

Going to the cinema on your own isn't odd. I do occasionally. In fact the last time I went on my own I had a pizza all to myself served to my seat!

We don't know what his reasons are, and that's none of your business either.

It's odd that you find it funny enough for the laughing emoji, and to start a thread hoping others will join in, instead of paying attention to the film itself and enjoying time with your dd.

IfYouPutASausageInItItsNotAViennetta · 02/06/2025 16:30

Maybe he's a MN-approved performance parent who insists on going to the cinema on his own first, before the 'official' family visit, to make sure that he deems the content appropriate in every conceivable way for his children and an educationally profitable use of their strict two hours of allowed screen-time per month - probably preparing an in-depth activity sheet for them to verify their comprehension of the material and ensure that no learning opportunities are wasted.

Hotvimtoandwaffles · 02/06/2025 16:30

Totally unreasonable. Why can’t someone go to the cinema on their own? I’m 37 and love Disney films, I probably enjoyed stitch more than my daughter did when we watched it at weekend! There are lots of reasons why he might be there on his own and unless he’s harassing you none of them are any of your business. No wonder people are too scared to do anything by themselves these days when the minute they do they get shamed on social media..

I love your loving life mentality and for not letting being on your own hold you back from experiences 😍 fabulous!

Whataloadoffuss · 02/06/2025 14:45

I think a lone middle aged man watching a film like this, with the predominant audience being parents and little kids, would stand out. It has real people in it, one of them a little girl. Maybe if it was the Garfield cartoon, or Paddington, op wouldn't have commented. There is a a few innocent reasons yes, and probably was perfectly fine, but of course he stands out.

So now men aren't allowed to watch films with children in?

🤣

wokemeupagain · 02/06/2025 16:32

Temporaryname158 · 02/06/2025 16:09

Lone man in children’s film - how awful he was judged by you when he’s done nothing wrong

maybe he has kids who had seen it and kept saying daddy, you’ve got to see it it’s brilliant!!!! So he went when they were at their mums so he could talk to them about it

maybe he likes disney

maybe he got free tickets

maybe his friend cancelled on him

i would hate it as a lone female, if people judged me for my film choice, ie why is that woman sat watching an action film alone??

not every man is a peadophile. Would you have said the same about a woman alone?

I get judged when I see horror films alone, the amount of people who say ohhhh are you here alone, or keep looking over to see if anyone comes to sit with me is crazy lol

SapphireOpal · 02/06/2025 16:33

Blackdow · 02/06/2025 14:07

If he’s middle aged then he was a kid when the first movie came out and it light just be nostalgia. He isn’t doing anything wrong. Jesus. Cannot believe you’ve started a thread about this.

Middle aged?! It only came out in 2002, so if he was a kid when it came out he'd be in his 30s...

ive wanted to go to the cinema on my own plenty of times and not ended up going because of being worried about people acting like this…

ginasevern · 02/06/2025 16:35

IfYouPutASausageInItItsNotAViennetta · 02/06/2025 16:19

I think you must be more used to a different kind of cinema... the kind that doesn't normally show films like Lilo & Stitch.

All of the vast array of nasty stuff that is available on the Internet, yet you assume that a man's choice of material for some 'self love' would be a family film at the pictures?

If you regularly go to the cinema and sit there staring at men's groins in the dark, they probably assume that you are the pervert about whom everybody should be on their guard.

Over the course of my pretty long life I have indeed been aware of blokes having a fiddle at absolutely ordinary mainstream cinemas. The type of film or time of day has been totally irrelevant. I do live in a big city and the cinemas in question are city centre ones, rather than the out of town retail park multiplexes. I do agree though, you would've thought it was old hat with all the porn available and actually a dirty rain coat cliche/joke but I'm not making it up I promise.

Beerhy · 02/06/2025 16:35

I’m a 31 y/o woman and watched inside out 2 on my own in a cinema full of kids. Cried my eyes out. I didn’t give a F about the kids in the cinema. Lilo and stitch was a huge movie when we were kids, maybe he just needed a pick me up? Unless he was sat rubbing his thighs staring at your kids give people minding their own business a break.

Go! Don't let judgy people on social media stop you doing this. It's a them problem.

LoyalMember · 02/06/2025 16:36

I go out for a pint on my own occasionally. I suppose I'm really just casing the joints for potential rape victims or old folk I can mug.

LemonOwl · 02/06/2025 16:36

Supima · 02/06/2025 16:19

It’s weird yes. The single best thing about kids getting older is that you no longer have to waste hours of your life suffering the torment of enduring shit like Alvin & the Chipmunks. Doing it voluntarily to yourself is incomprehensible to me. Mind you, quite enjoyed the Minions movies.

Oh no, you've just reminded me of Alvin and The Chipmunks. I had erased that from my memory.

I've just watched the trailer for Lilo & Stitch and it's definitely not something I"d choose to go and see.

I loved Cars though and made my DS and DH go and watch it me.

I would have probably wondered why he was there but as long as he wasn't doing anything weird I wouldn't think more about it.
