Following on from the thread earlier this week on Over 50’s and what have you grown bored with (which was fabulous), thought I’d start this thread on simple pleasures (for over 45’s as I’m not yet 50).

For me:

Reading;
Cup of tea with a slice of homemade cake;
Long walk;
A freshly brewed coffee from the cafetière;
Clean sheets;
Favourite tv shows with a nice box of chocolates

Hit me with yours

A quiet cup of tea before anyone else gets up
A cold glass of wine in the sun
Finishing a good book that leaves me thinking
A hot shower when I'm tired
Kitchen disco

We must be secret sisters 😆

Theatre - I said very melodramatically to someone during Covid that my soul was starving for lack of music and theatre, and I’ve really prioritised it since.

The liturgical year.

Travelling with DD while she still wants to come with us.

A matinee with good friends followed by a civilised dinner somewhere.

Actually, my job. There’s sometimes too much of it and I feel overwhelmed, but it matters and I make a difference.

CrazyGoatLady · 01/06/2025 20:21

Solo long dog walks. Hanging out with the other animals (goats, chickens, baby doll sheep) just petting them or grooming them and talking to them!

Manasprey · 01/06/2025 21:12

The months from April to September. Just those. You can keep the dark cold ones.

Breakfast in the garden.

Birdsong.

Living so close to the woods.
Being able to run.
Reading.
Having independent teenagers who leave me alone.
Books.

changeme4this · 01/06/2025 21:33

Silence. There’s something going on with my hearing where normal noise just seems amplified.

a glass of wine later in the afternoon watching the day change into night.

big hedges providing us with a lot of privacy (we do have great neighbours)

having quality neighbours and good relationships with them compared to what was here when we first moved in

loving my family

reading a good (real) book. Not keen on kindles.

eating good food when we go out.

going out with DH.

sitting under trees we planted years ago

knowing our DC have turned out to be good humans

the changing seasons

Getting together with my long term, long distance OH. We are both pensioners but still working, don't see enough of each other and when we do we stay up all night chatting and generally making each other laugh.

caringcarer · 01/06/2025 21:41

I get a lot of pleasure from my cats. 😻😻

TrixieFatell · 01/06/2025 21:46

Gigs. I love live music, mainly rock but have enjoyed a few dance acts. Just makes me feel alive.

Road trips with a good soundtrack

Visiting new places

My garden and seeing it grow.

Onionbhajisandwich · 01/06/2025 21:50

Having a cuddle and a chat with my cat when nobody else is home.
A hot chocolate in the morning.
When the clocks go back in the autumn and the nights are dark and cosy.
Fresh bedding.
Friday nights.

Hearing the birds

Just turned 45 and I discovered the Merlin bird song app a few weeks ago. I can now recognise a chaffinch, Robin and blackbird by ear! I’ve never been interested before now!

ClawsandEffect · 01/06/2025 22:52

Cup of tea in bed.
Not having to get up to start work (start at 6am some days).
Having my evenings free and spending them alone.
My soup maker.
A bit of hand sewing in front of the TV.
My cats. And saying hello to the neighbours cats too. Brings me great pleasure.
Having a little time available for a hobby in the evenings. For a long time I worked most evenings so the freedom is a lovely luxury.

Love all of these things like coffee, reading in bed, peaceful walks, podcasts etc
But who are all these lunatics who love birds? Can’t stand the crapping, screeching fuckers… I’m looking at you swifts and pigeons.

shellyleppard · 01/06/2025 23:15

Sitting in the garden listening to the birds.
A nice cuppa and a good book.
An empty house when everyone is out....bliss
