Following on from the thread earlier this week on Over 50’s and what have you grown bored with (which was fabulous), thought I’d start this thread on simple pleasures (for over 45’s as I’m not yet 50).

For me:

Reading;
Cup of tea with a slice of homemade cake;
Long walk;
A freshly brewed coffee from the cafetière;
Clean sheets;
Favourite tv shows with a nice box of chocolates

Hit me with yours

Kids okay

I could have written this post!

Reading in bed
cuddles with my cat
Walking in the woods or by the sea
A cold glass of white wine
A new plant

StepsInTime · 31/05/2025 23:32

One day per weekend where no one wants anything from me

Vanfan · 31/05/2025 23:55

Getting back into bed at 10:00am with a cup of tea and a bacon and egg butty.
Lying in bed with the curtains open when its raining
Clean ironed sheets . Althought Im torn just now as I also love the teddy bear sheet I put on for winter.
Beautiful clear evenings like last night . The light in the sky and the air temperature are just perfect.
White sheets on the line against a backdrop of fresh green leaves on the trees and a blue sky.
My adult children laughing together and enjoying each others company .
Doing connections and wordle with my brother . Just a few words each day keeps us in touch.
Watching my grandchildren grow . I could just watch them all day long no matter what they're doing ,every action and word is amazing to me.

Freesiasforthewin · 01/06/2025 00:00

The first, strong coffee drank alone before anyone wakes up.

Putting on my pyjamas and dressing gown.

Looking at my tidy and clean house before it gets trashed by teenagers.

A night of unbroken sleep.

Freesiasforthewin · 01/06/2025 00:01

Oh and the feeling when I finally capture that thick, pesky hair under my chin with the tweezers!

Caerulea · 01/06/2025 00:30

Williamson's Earl Grey,

Fiddling with my houseplants, finding new growth & cool things,

Wandering for miles & miles in Minecraft looking for the perfect place to set up a base (then inevitably falling down a deep hole to my death losing all the iron I've mined)

Having a good TV series we all watch together (DH & resident kids DS16 & DS17 (just finished Silo & part way through Severence))

Heavy rain

Big wind & storms

Rainbows, clouds & atmospheric phenomena

My grandson & how happy he makes makes eldest

Having a 'daughter' in Eldest's partner

DH's grey hair & beard

Fruity chocolate

Spicy fruit salsas

Not caring what size or shape I am

Aged 46 & ¹¹/¹², size 7

raspberrieswithchocolate · 01/06/2025 12:13

Early morning walks by the sea with my dog, especially on Sunday mornings when everything is especially quiet. Often followed by a breakfast of sausages, toast and very hot tea

Cuddling up in an armchair under a fluffy blanket with a good book and cake and tea

Stormy weather

Listening to the birds warbling in the early mornings

Having an evening shower, then getting into fresh pj's and a bed made up with clean sheets.

The sound of heavy rain on the roof

The feeling of satisfaction when my home is clean and tidy

Cuddling up in the evening with ddog to watch tv

Being self employed - I enjoy my work and love being able to choose my work hours ( to a certain degree)

Escapetothecatshome · 01/06/2025 12:16

Feeding the dog lunch after a long morning walk and then watching her snooze all afternoon.

I love Eminem too! I give you this piece of editing mastery...

Thank you 😀

JaceLancs · 01/06/2025 12:54

Lego, jigsaws, a good book
Decent coffee and cake
Expensive tequila

Ahaha oh yeah there’s always that. Working from home is boring but has its benefits.

Cue next headline in Daily Mail "lazy work from home generation spend all day in bed masturbating"

StMarie4me · 01/06/2025 14:17

Over 60. Hiking. Running. Listening to rock music. Audio books whilst driving to work. Volunteering at festivals. Going to festivals. Camping.

Mary46 · 01/06/2025 14:35

Nice coffee. House to myself. A good book or magazine. Great thread

YDBear · 01/06/2025 18:27

Breakfast—we are both retired so this can start at 10 and, with all the newspaper reading and putting the world to rights over coffee, last until 1:00.
Having dinner together watching some TV drama.
Reading in bed at the end of the day.

Barnbrack · 01/06/2025 18:34

My favourite guilty pleasure which I rarely indulge since having kids (I'm 42 so technically too young to answer and kids are 4 and 7) is going to a BIG bookshop, like a massive Waterstones on a weekday when it's quiet, getting coffee and cake and reading a book at a table by myself with earphones in and something like 80s/90s hits or a musical blasting. I love bookshops and try to take the kids and buy from both big ones and our local one we're so lucky to have because I appreciate their existence so much. I'll happily buy clothes online but I want to BROWSE books. The kids love a trip to the book shop. I was an absolute extreme bookworm as a kid and grew up very poor and all my books came from charity shop bundles or the school library. Buying books was one of my favourite things about achieving a good income in my 20s.

Literally my husband and it's retirement plan 💕

Katysitdown · 01/06/2025 18:36

Dog eager face when I have the lead in my hand.
Holding my husband's hand watching TV- still "the one" after all these years.
A finished ironing pile.
The first cup of tea of the day

Meadowfinch · 01/06/2025 19:06

My kitchen faces east and overlooks water meadows. Sometimes I get up early, make a coffee and watch the sunrise through the mist 😊

Iceboy80 · 01/06/2025 19:18

Wake up on a Saturday morning and just go to costa coffee, large latte and just chill out, by the time I get back my daughters still in bed so I sit down stairs in peace until she gets up (usually about 12pm) then usually make her something. I think it's more about the peace and quiet on the way to and from Costa that just chills me out, I'm as happy as a pig in shit when I get back. Simple things

PorgyandBess · 31/05/2025 15:40

Nice things. No scrimping. I’ve done my time.

The good wine, the excellent restaurant, the expensive clothes. Not flying in economy.

haha ok for some! We used to not fly economy in our 30s but now with 2 DC and the higher cost of air travel it's becoming a thing of the past.

Aria999 · 01/06/2025 19:25

All of yours OP, plus a lot of these others, definitely including first glass of wine after a long day.

also

swimming in a lake or ocean surrounded by mountains.

getting to the viewpoint on a tough hike (exercise high plus amazing views)

Catkin51 · 01/06/2025 19:27

I am over 70 and my list of things I love is the same as OP’s, although the long walks are getting a bit shorter these days!
I would add playing with and cuddling my poodle to the list

MiracleCures · 01/06/2025 19:31

Blossom 🌸
A spritz of decent perfume
Proper coffee
A cuddle with the dog
Playing a board game or chess
Sitting by the sea
