Following on from the thread earlier this week on Over 50’s and what have you grown bored with (which was fabulous), thought I’d start this thread on simple pleasures (for over 45’s as I’m not yet 50).

For me:

Reading;
Cup of tea with a slice of homemade cake;
Long walk;
A freshly brewed coffee from the cafetière;
Clean sheets;
Favourite tv shows with a nice box of chocolates

Hit me with yours

Green tea twice a day
Washing my face with facewash in the morning to wake myself up and get the last of the previous day's dirt off
Hanging laundry on a warm day
Clean sheets

Having a cold drink in a hot bath after a workout

Ilovelurchers · 31/05/2025 16:43

I love spending time on my own more as I get older. Whether that is at home, in the park, shopping in my locàl town, a drink with my book in the local pub, or travelling further afield.

With the exception of my daughter, who I am so relaxed with it feels like being on my own (in a good way), I prefer my company to anybody else's.

Other pleasures:
Reading (pretty much anything).
Sitting on my favourite bench in the park over the road from my flats with a drink.
Films (cinema or at home).
Some types of reality TV, like Traitors, Race Around the World etc. Used to hate them but now can't get enough.
Knitting and other easy crafts.
Just starting to get in to jigsaws! Used to find them soul-nimbinglt full, now find them relaxing!

MyCyanReader · 31/05/2025 16:47

Kickboxing class including skipping for a warm up without having to go pee half way through .

Being able to do two loads of washing in a day and line drying it.

A nice glass of wine at 9pm.

Playing the piano.

Lincslady53 · 31/05/2025 16:49

I am a little! older than 45 but I'll join in anyway.

My second cup of coffee in the morning. The first is with my breakfast, but the second is by itself, just for the pleasure of drinking it.

My L'Or coffee machine. Uses Nespresso compatible pods which I buy in bulk from L'Or to get the best price.I clean and recycle the pods. It might not be as good coffee as hand grinding beans grown on the southern slopes of a particular mountain in Peru, but it is easy to use and clean and gives me a coffee I like in very short time.

Going for a walk, listening to a history podcast, Richard 2nd at the moment.

Washing up by hand. Don't know why, but just enjoy doing it.

Deep cleaning our kitchen. Again, no idea why but love getting the white worktop gleaming.

Long bath listening to BBC Sounds - that reminds me, a new series of It's a Fair Cop has started.

BobbyBiscuits · 31/05/2025 16:51

Gardening
Smoking weed
Not having to leave the house for a whole day or more if possible
Actually following recipes instead of making everything up
Sleep. But I don't get enough of it!

Cordroy · 31/05/2025 16:53

Funnily enough - listening to 45s!!

frozendaisy · 31/05/2025 16:55

Hearing the teens laugh
Good conversation
6music (usually)
Pratting about making fancy beverages at home - this ranges from all types of teas/herbal infusions - sparkling water with fruit herbs in - iced coffees - milkshakes - cock and mocktails

Lincslady53 · 31/05/2025 16:56

Reading a few more has reminded me of another, I was trying not to include alcohol but.

A Friday afternoon walk with DH along our local canal and calling into our favourite pub. The bar is nothing special, old fashioned, stone flag floor, painted woodchip walls, but as soon as we sit down, me with a glass of red, DH a pint of beer, we both feel a wave of relaxation. This only happens in 2 or 3 pubs, no idea why, if we but it is wonderful.

Zippp · 31/05/2025 17:00

Needhelp101 · 31/05/2025 17:27

*Queeg!

WeHaveTheRabbit · 31/05/2025 17:35

I love to do puzzles and word games (Wordle, Connections, etc.) with my first cup of tea in the morning. It's honestly one of my favourite times of the day.

Walking with my dog in the woods or (more rarely, due to distance) on the beach. Watching him run and play is such a great pleasure. I also love the way he waits for us or runs back to check in with us.

When the fridge is well stocked but also organised. Some people in this household (looking at you, DH) have a tendency to shove things into the fridge haphazardly. I like to arrange everything nicely. I sometimes open the door just to admire how it all looks.

Notmydaughteryoubitch · 31/05/2025 17:40

Am 45 in a couple of weeks and don't see any of the following changing....
My hikes up in the hills on my own, hours of quiet and beauty
Being out in nature more generally
Like a PP, outdoor swimming, I need at least one a week and ideally very few or no other people around
My weds evening swim and sauna at local lake
Lying in my hammock in the sunshine, listening/watching the birds
Good work out at my gym classes
Escaping into a good book
I'm not drinking (does not go well for me with peri menopause) so am quite enjoying using my calories on a dessert after dinner sometimes these days
Playing board games with DD and DH

Judiezones · 31/05/2025 17:43

An evening with DH and something good on tv, my crochet/knitting/embroidery, a cup of decent coffee and some chocolate.

Lunch or coffee with my friends and a good chat and laugh.

A walk in the early evening

Topseyt123 · 31/05/2025 17:43
