Colleague made sarky comment about me re. GB News

1000 replies

OneStepBeyondd · 30/05/2025 22:21

Discussion at work earlier - does anyone watch the news. Another colleague and I said we don’t mind GB news on occasion to which someone said (directed at me) - ‘I didn’t have you down as one of them’ in a judgemental tone.

Is it me or is that a bit rude and unnecessary?

You've published research, so you're an academic? Sorry, but reading your posts, I find that very hard to believe. Then again, as education is indoctrinated by the left, maybe I'm wrong.

No I’m a psychologist, but my research background is in social communication/emotional intelligence.

Happyfeet12345 · 01/06/2025 12:46

I disagree, I think calling me a bigot after reading two of my posts is name calling, and ironically extremely judgemental. I doubt you would say that to someone in real life.

Also time is precious, it’s okay not to want to be friends with everyone. I am pleasant to everyone I meet, but that doesn’t mean I would choose to go for a drink with everyone, especially if I thought they had different values to me.

A judge talking about judgement 🙄

I think that’s the kind of mad propaganda you get off GB News.
And that anyone, born in the Uk or not, can be an asset (or not) to this country.

Do you want any controls over how many arrive in the same way?

Etaerio · 01/06/2025 12:52

You think wealth is based on how much income tax is paid? Go back to school.
equalitytrust.org.uk/scale-economic-inequality-uk/

No, I think income tax, and the benefits they help fund, is the primary means through which the state redistributes money between richer and poorer people.

Back to school for you 😆

The difference is that I am always kind and polite to everyone I meet, my judgemental thoughts are kept internal. No name-calling or eye-rolling here!

Yet you are placing yourself in the homogenous group, who resort to name calling repeatedly. In fact, their points are normally insult led with no substance.

So you admit then that there has been a massive increase in the wealth of the wealthiest- which is what I said before and I think you thought you could refute that by talking about income tax, which you couldn’t.

Income tax can and should be used to fund excellent public services that help to mitigate some of the effects of inequality but sadly it isn’t used in that way as much as it should be. Wealth should also be taxed.

GB news will not discuss inequality as it is, instead they will argue for lower taxation and claim that migration is the problem. Because it is a right wing propaganda machine

EasternStandard · 01/06/2025 12:58

Thegreyhound · 01/06/2025 12:52

In what way?

You tell me. You seem ok with 1200 in one day. Is higher ok?

Bluesuedevest · 01/06/2025 12:59

Tax the rich too much and they just leave the country

OK, well I don't agree with you but I'm willing to concede the point as it costs me nothing and I wouldn't like you to think I'm calling you names. So, I won't call you a bigot. However, I do think, based on your posts, that you are a person who is obstinately or unreasonably attached to a belief, opinion, or faction, especially one who is prejudiced against or antagonistic towards a person or people on the basis of their membership of a particular group.

I wouldn't really care if you call me a bigot by the way. The word wouldn't affect me as there is no truth to it. I'm always open to new ideas and perspectives, I believe in the fundamental worth and equality of everyone, and I value free speech even when I disagree with what's being said.

Etaerio · 01/06/2025 13:04

Erm ... the wealthy getting wealthier doesn't mean money is being redistributed to them. Back to school for you 😆

Don't think I've ever heard a football pundit ' spouting lefty bollocks' on the BBC ?
As opposed to condemning genocide on X.

Ever heard of Linekar?

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 01/06/2025 13:05

I wouldn't say anything, but of course I would silently judge you. Choosing to get your "news" from a far right propaganda machine says quite a lot about you. Announcing that fact to the world also says quite a lot.

I would say nothing but when someone tells me who they are, I generally listen.

That's who the poster is hinting at. I didn't run with the obligatory G word because it will be another unrelated thread, that's derailed x

You're a Psycologist but would judge someones background and intelligence based on watching GB news?

hattie43 · 01/06/2025 13:19

1200 illegal migrants crossed on 18 boats just yesterday alone . Just how much longer can we support this before the country goes bankrupt. Where will they live when there are no houses ?

Purplesphere11 · 01/06/2025 13:19

Try Talk tv OP. Much funnier and less repetitive 😉

So you're one of those holier-than-thou hypocrites desperate to signal your virtue. You make that quite clear. I suspect a lot of people make a point of avoiding you irl.

The irony is their sneering and judgemental attitudes stereotype people; the thing which they are meant to object to. You could tie lefties' 'logic' up in knots all day if you wanted to.

... but her speciality is 'emotional intelligence' even though she steadfastly refuses to consider other people's perspectives as it's not a good use of her time.

How exactly am I signalling my virtue if I'm silently judging?

And no, I'm not aware of anyone avoiding me IRL tbh. But if there were a few nasty far right types keeping their distance, that would be a bonus, I guess.

It comes as no surprise to me. Having worked in education and being a minority Tory, I've seen so called intelligent people showing their own ignorance. These are people who teach sociology and politics. I always felt sorry for their students, not being allowed access to the art of critical thinking.

Erm ... by posting on a global social media site? 😆
